Darn210 replied to Ursa Major's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
OK Ursa, It's been over 24 hours since you've posted your beautiful cake . . . Time to share some details. Was it as good as you hoped? Got any secret recipes to share? There's only thousands of people that peruse this sight. I'm sure we can all keep a secret . -

I enjoy that one, too. I tried to show my kids (6 & 8) and they are not nearly as impressed as I am. I start explaining . . . you know, they are doing that on treadmills, . . . you know how those work, right . . . They hear blah, blah, blah . This is the one that makes them stop and come watch. Not funny . . . but pretty cool. Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Help! I Need A Meatloaf Recipe!
Darn210 replied to Aligray's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ali, I just kind of throw mine together - very similar to what the first Janet wrote. I like to put ketchup mixed with brown sugar on top of mine. I also add a little milk when I'm mixing it all up. I just made gluten-free meatloaf for the first time last week. Prior to my daughter's diagnosis, I used saltine crackers. This time, I used the... -

Darn210 replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wow, guess I should check profiles more often. You're right, they are Beauties. They look similar enough to be litter mates. I'll have to get a picture of our dog on here somewhere. We saved her from the dog pound and I was manipulative enough that the kids think THEY picked her out. I can't ever imangine NOT having a dog. Amanda, jumping the... -
ARCHIVED Housebreaking A New Puppy
Darn210 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The bell thing worked for us, too. However, the dog is the one who initiated it. We had a Christmas decoration with jingle bells that hung off of the door handle. She would go over and nudge the decoration when she wanted out. When Christmas was over, we left that particular decoration up for a while until I got around to replacing it with some jingle... -

ARCHIVED Halloween Candy List
Darn210 replied to Dandelion's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
buffettbride . . . kind of gives a little insight to the screen name, huh? FYI, the Great Value brand of candy corn is gluten free (says so on the package). I haven't had it yet so I don't know how it compares (taste-wise) to the other brands. -
I think the picture is a good idea . . . because you can't save everything. They just bring home way too much stuff. Also - if they can tell you ahead of time when they are going to do a macaroni project - you might be able to send in your own gluten-free pasta for your daughter to work with.

ARCHIVED Ugh The School Just Ticked Me Off!
Darn210 replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How about leaving an emergency lunch at the school with her teacher . . . I am thinking along the lines of something that has a long shelf-life (I am also assumming that she has no other allergies) . . . You can buy Jif in little individual serving containers now ( Open Original Shared Link ). An individual apple sauce A lunch box size of chips And... -

Halloooo only slightly silly ladies today . . . Tis a slow day. I did enjoy the jokes and have no Scottish jokes to throw in so I'm not even trying to help the silly factor today . . . My favorite time is fall and spring . . . where the temps during the day are from about 48 to 72. Doesn't seem to depend TOO much on sun as long as it comes out every... -

And here's two more . . . CATHOLIC DOG Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, "Father, my dog is dead. Could ya' be saying' a mass for the poor creature?" Father Patrick replied, "I'm afraid not; we cannot have services for an animal... -

Well, since we're on the subject (and since Bev is Irish - actually, I'm just a bit Irish, too) . .. Paddy was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an important meeting and couldn't find a parking place. Looking up to heaven he said, "Lord take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of... -
ARCHIVED Send Good Thoughts For My Little Niece
Darn210 replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Amanda, Good Luck and Prayers to your family!!! My good friends daughter had febrile seizures. Kids usually outgrow them by the time they are five. It is not dependant on how high the temp gets but by how fast it gets there. By the time her daughter was 3, she could actually tell her mom it was coming . . . actually, she would say in a moaning voice... -

ARCHIVED Answers For Celiac Baking Newbies
Darn210 replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ahhhh . . . that might explain what happened to my pancakes this morning . They tasted great but the batter was really gooey and they were not wanting to cook all the way through. That tip that I posted (which is apparently wrong), I found on the internet after an employee at wild oats told me to add sugar to my rice flour to make it sweet rice flour... -
ARCHIVED Bday Cake Recipe
Darn210 replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've been using the gluten-free yellow cake mix off of allrecipes.com and have had wonderful luck with it. It does turn out better if you use rice flour from an asian market because it is a finer grind. I have made these as cupcakes and they freeze pretty well (freeze them without the icing). It is also easy to make 1/2 or 1/4 of the recipe. You do know... -

Once again . . . that sounds like I'm a stalker. I did notice that whenever I came to read this thread, you seemed to be here at the same time. I didn't notice on the other threads . . . but I read up in a lot of them to procrastinate and avoid doing the mundane housework and errands - like right now when I have guests coming in . . . .
