  1. I've been known to hide behind the pantry door to scarf something down so the kids don't see . . . It's part need to set a good example and part if they see me, I'll have to share. Excellent . . . fits in perfectly with the menu. I saw Steven Wright once. It was a long time ago but we had a blast. I sat next to a friend of mine...
  2. Hey, that's not so bad . . . sunflower seeds . . . protein ice cream . . . dairy soy/flaxseed tortilla chips . . . soy . . .soybean . . . bean . . . vegetable caramels . . . sugar pills . . . medication? gum . . . doesn't count since you spit it out You just gotta know how to spin it. It was misfortunate that your caramels were...
  3. I just noticed . . . very subtle (or subconcious? or unconcious?) use of the # sign in that comment.
  4. Factoring in that math anecdotes have been protested, perhaps we should just let this go for the remainder of the thread. In addition, I would hate to be the cause of any division amongst the ranks as I do so enjoy the banter. Plus . . . ow, ow, brain pain. How are you left-eyed unless you are a pirate and wear an eye-patch? Ahoy there, Emily...
  5. Carla, I checked your profile and found no birthdate listed. I couldn't tell if my hubby helped put you through college or not. It's safe to say that he helped make more than a few car payments at your dad's house. No No No . . . no one wants that . Not that it will make any difference. Tom, you're a calculating sort and I suspect that...
  6. Alas, no, I was not kidding. Even now that we are past that financially strapped point in our lives and can afford something better, my husband still prefers Miller Lite. However, we did upgrade from cans to bottles! Yee-haw! Emily, there's Tom from another thread. I think he's got you covered on the math stuff, too. ...
  7. just googled this: Open Original Shared Link have no idea if it's any good.
  8. My opinion . . . You know what you did and you know what worked. There are so many false negatives in young kids that I wouldn't want to put her through that. When she gets older and wants to try it you can do a challenge then. Celiac disease is not an allergy so a wheat allergy test would be negative. An allergy is an IgE response and Celiac disease...
  9. Shocking, isn't it? And my husband prefers Miller Lite. Don't all husbands do that??? I have to tell you that your grammer patrol intimidates me. I'm much more gooder with numbers. And some days (or for you, Emily, somedays) you guys make my brain hurt.
  10. I am big into not pushing it on veggies and fruits. As a kid - as far back as I can remember - I hated green beans and peas. I had to sit at the table until my helping (whatever size my mother decided to give me) was gone from my plate. To this day, I still don't like peas and especially green beans. I'm 43 years old. As a kid, we never had broccoli...
  11. First of all, let me say that I'm a long-time listener and a first-time caller. I'm a big fan of the show. But I have to ask . . . Tom's registered in '04 and Murph registered in '07 . . . Are you saying he registered under another name just to give you grief? And how did you discover it was Tom?
  12. I'm not familiar with this diet . . . but I was getting ready to suggest Chebe bread to a friend of mine whose son is allergic to everything under the sun. It's ingredients are Manioc (tapioca) flour, modified manioc starch, dry milk, iodine-free salt To prepare, add oil, eggs, cheese and water. Can you have eggs & cheese?
  13. I held my son. He has a May birthday and is small for his age. However, I held him based on the advice of the pre-school that he went to. Academically, he was OK but emotionally, he wasn't ready. He didn't get the purple scissors, he would cry. He didn't get the chair he wanted, he would cry . . . the list goes on . . . I actually put him in a private...
  14. It's kind of implied but not written well . . . you need to puree everything to a fine slush. They should not be able to visually identify any fruit or fruit pieces . Also, if I recall, Kinnitoos are an oreo type cookie that are egg, dairy and gluten free. And the Glutino ritz-like crackers are good but do contain egg as does the Bell&Evans chicken...
  15. Just a comment that my daughter's GI said during an evaluation of my son's blood work (which had mixed results). The ranges for what is diagnosed as Celiac were established based on data from adults . . . just something to think about . . . why so many kids with symptoms may not get the diagnosis.
  16. My kids like (and I've tried to only include stuff that is gluten free, dairy free, and egg free but please double check me as I don't have to screen for dairy or egg) Tinkyada brand pasta Van's waffles (make sure you get gluten-free - they have other kinds) Glutino's pretzels Envirokidz Amazon Frosted Flakes (my kids actually prefer them dry...
  17. If you want to hear picky . . . when my niece was two, all she would eat was multi-grain cheerios, milk, toast, mac&cheese and marshmallows. And my SIL would follow her around begging her to eat . . . "Here, honey, have some marshmallows." mykidsmommy - she doesn't have to give up her pasta. Tinkyada brand (rice) pasta is great and they have one...
  18. My personal opinion . . . picky eating doesn't have anything to do with celiac and everything to do with being a toddler. That being said, depending on how long she has been gluten-free, she still may be having some tummy troubles - that is if she had any in the first place. My daughter didn't have stomach aches. I don't know that when my kids...
  19. How about a nice veggie stir-fry? If he's up for it - add in some shrimp. You could offer to bring the seasoning/soy sauce so that he doesn't have to research and hunt down gluten-free versions. Then he's left with getting the veggies and rice and hopefully, a nice bottle of wine. Good Luck
  20. I keep hearing how wonderful Annalise Roberts cookbook is and am expecting it in the mail shortly. I've also heard that she recommends a fine ground brown rice flour. I know the white rice flour from the asian market is definitely finer than what I have gotten at Wild Oats. Has anybody purchased brown rice flour from an asian market? If not there, where...
  21. Your timing is perfect. I am getting ready to make bread today. I keep hearing how wonderful sorghum flour is yet it always seems to be a small portion of any recipe that I see. I'll have to give this a try.
  22. My daughter recieved a diagnosis based on a positive blood test and an inconclusive biopsy. Her only symptom was acid reflux. They considered the biopsy inconclusive because they did not see damage to the villi. However, they did find that she had low iron and low protein and was having problems digesting sugars. Even though they didn't SEE the damage...
  23. We just got back from an appointment with a Pediactric GI. I just wanted to share how it went . . . Here's the background: My daughter was diagnosed in April with Celiac disease. Because of her diagnosis, my son had a blood test in July. He has no GI symptoms but he is extremely small for his age. He is 8 and about 43 pounds and 47 inches tall. He...
  24. If you know you are going to go shopping . . . you can preorder your deli meat to be run first in the morning. When I was arranging a big family get-together last summer, I was feeding approximately 100 people for lunch with ham, turkey, roast beef and cheese. I called about 24 hours in advanced and ordered my POUNDS of deli items to be picked up the...
  25. Definitely get off of dairy for awhile. Lots of Celiacs have problems with dairy until their gut heals. The area that is damaged is the same place that processes lactose. You can try adding it back in after you have healed up a bit. Is your whole household going gluten-free or just you? If it's just you, you need your own toaster, cutting board, pasta...
