  1. No Luck for me either and I went to two different super Wal-Marts . However, I did find the powdered cheese from Kraft to make the Tinkyada pasta taste like Krafts blue box mac&cheese . (Thanks to Jessica, I think, from a different thread).
  2. Ball (the canning jar people) also have a product for freezing liquids. Its plastic, holds a cup of liquid, has a screw on lid and designed so they can stack on top of each other. I found them at Wal-Mart. I plan on using mine for cream of chicken soup. I bought some really nasty gluten-free cream of chicken and decided I could do better myself. I'm...
  3. I don't have Celiac but my daughter does. She didn't understand, but I cried for her because of some of the foods she couldn't have anymore. She cried because I cried. It's depressing at first, and overwhelming, and you may go into mourning over foods you can't have. And then you get down to business, you do your research, and you try some different...
  4. skinnyminny, Can't wait to try your recipe. I was all excited when I got my bread machine and the first three tries were total catastrophe's - one overflowed and burned (not quite the smell I wanted wafting through the house). And the trial and error process is expensive!!! I haven't made another attempt in about a month. All the machines are just...
  5. Does it really matter why someone chooses to eat gluten free? If it works for them - whatever the reason, then it works for all of us. The more people requesting gluten free products, the more $$manufacturers$$ listen. Wider variety, lower cost . . . I'm for that. And Charlene, congratulations on becoming a more healthier you.
  6. Gluten Challenge!!! Do you or don't you . . . Is there something to gain? Based on talking with three different doctors (2 Pediatric GI's and my daughter's Pediatrician), there is now all kinds of contraversy about my daughter's test results . . . I think we are going to do the challenge. We won't be able to do it for another couple of months but this...
  7. Have you ever used the Emla cream? A friend of mine used something on her daughter (which sounded the same/similar) for a blood draw. She said it caused her veins to constrict/shrink so the nurse ended up having to draw from her hand. Ouch!!!
  8. We also did not have significant symptoms. She would spit up (about a mouthfull) one or two times a day. She was on Prevacid which helped (she had some days where it would happen a dozen times prior to the Prevacid). My daughter was tested for and diagnosed with gastroparesis (slow tummy) about a week after we went gluten free. So we started Erythromycin...
  9. My daughter does not like any of the breads that I have tried or made. ($$$$ Ughhh $$$$$). She has switched to rice cakes. I send it in its own container (tupperware or snaplock) so that it doesn't fall apart in the lunch box. Then I send a very small cup of peanut butter and a plastic knife and she "assembles" it herself at school. She was never...
  10. This has been my experience . . . I'm getting frustrated with the doctors but this is what they told me about a gluten challenge for my daughter: After having been off gluten for 6 months, she would need her blood tested to make sure everything was normal. Then she could do a gluten challenge where gluten would be added back into her diet for two months...
  11. My daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease April 10th. We've had some follow-up appointments, and apparently the time has come to screen my son with a blood test. He is eight but has NEVER been good when he sees a needle coming. He is borderline asthmatic and has to have a flu shot every fall. He goes into hysterics and will try and hide under...
  12. Count me in for Tinkyada. Wide variety of noodle "styles". Doesn't fall apart. And that's one of the meals that the whole family will eat gluten-free and I don't have to make two separate meals.
  13. You've eliminated so much . . . it sounds like a lot of it is "guessing" what it might be and if so, chances are you'll be able to add most of that back in. Based on what you said, you saw a definite improvement when you went off of the gluten. Did you notice any kind of improvement when you went off any of the others? Did you do them all at the same time...
  14. I believe the "coating" that you are talking about is corn starch. My son got a "food science" kit for Christmas and one of the things we made was marshmallows. At the end, we had to coat them with corn starch. And I see that it is one of the ingrediants on the package in our panty. I have also seen recipes for homemade marshmallows but I don't know...
  15. They are expecting my daughter's numbers to be normal at the 6 month point but hers started out about 1/2 of what your son's were. I would think that they should be normal - your GI would be able to tell you what his/her expectations are. I see that your son is eleven so it may be an indicator as to how well he does when you are not controlling his food...
  16. Good for Her!!! My daughter (age 6) was diagnosed with Celiac and now we have to have my son (age 8) tested. I can't tell you how much I dread this. He goes into hysterics whenever he gets his flu shot. I can not imagine what he is going to do for a blood draw. Anybody got some good suggestions?
  17. Just my opinion . . . What one person thinks is colic might just be a crabby, tired baby. (Especially on first babies - which I don't know if this is or not). My husband thought that our (first) son had colic - basically every time he cried. Then when our daughter was born, she cried a lot more and his response was "Ohhhhh, so THIS is colic!" Neither...
  18. No but you can make your own with Health Valley's Corn Crunch'ems and Rice Crunch'ems. We use the glutino pretzels, too. A friend of mine made a spicy version with frank's hot sauce and chili powder added. I'll take a look and see if I can find it. It was flamin' !!! but good!!!
  19. Em, Are you making gnocchi or buying it somewhere? Let me know where you are getting it and if it's a recipe, would you mind sharing? . . . Thanks!
  20. I've read that they are interchangelable except that guar gum works as a laxative. If you need help in this area - go for it. If you're already having trouble - maybe not so much.
  21. I was wondering if licorice strings are gluten-free because it seems like they'd be great for drawing out details on the firetruck. Are you using yellow gumdrops for the headlights?
  22. Don't be scared to try the soy flour - at least in small doses. I have a chocolate chip cookie recipe that uses it and they turn out great. I will say that I LOVED raw cookie dough before cooking gluten free - and now, (I think because of the soy), I hate the way the cookie dough tastes so I won't eat it. I thought the cookies were going to be a flop,...
  23. Since wheat is one of the top allergens, I would think they would always have to have some other option available. However, just one more way to CC.
  24. My daughter also had a conclusive blood test yet the biopsy was inconclusive. The doc still made the celiac diagnosis based on the blood test (which is very accurate at this point) and protein, calcium, and iron deficiencies (showing malabsorbtion), and problems digesting sugars (more than just lactose) (indicating damage to the villi - somewhere). Per...
  25. The only thing my daughter still gets weepy about: Panera Bread's cinnamon crunch bagel. If anybody has a good substitute/alternative for this, I'd love to hear it! Janet
