  1. Probably not what you want to hear, but I also don't believe in weight loss surgery. I lost 100# the hard way, but by taking my time and changing my life, I've managed to keep it off for almost 5 years now-even having a baby 2 years ago. I won't pretend it's easy, but I promise, it's do-able. There has to be some kind of exercise that you can do...???...
  2. In Portland, these are my favorites: Corbett or Hawthorn Fish house (AMAZING catfish and sweet potato fries), Andinas has fantastic food (I think it's Peruvian)--lots of flavor, The Coffee Plant is right next to the Corbett Fish House, they offer gluten-free food too. Picazzo's pizza has been pretty popular, I know someone who likes it a lot, I've sampled...
  3. I was going to try this recipe for the crescent rolls next time: Open Original Shared Link I LOVE veggie pizza!!!!!
  4. Well, this is the response. From the looks of the rest of the evening, I think she was trying to get out of cleaning her room. We had a chat about crying wolf... Dear Rachelle, Thanks for writing about the Archer Farms Chili Pineapple Hot Sauce and the Archer Farms Cajun Grill Sauce. Both products do not have gluten ingredients but wheat and its...
  5. Congratulations!! That's quite a feat, you should be super proud of yourself!!
  6. Anyone tried the Archer Farms (target) brand of sauces that don't list wheat? Specifically the cajun grilling sauce and the hot chile pineapple grilling sauce? 1 out of 3 celiacs in my house are reacting and I can't tell if she's really reacting or trying to get out of cleaning her room..... I did email them, so I'll let you know specifically what I find...
  7. you can check this list out. as always, read labels... Open Original Shared Link
  8. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to try to do it tonight or tomorrow night, I will let you know how it turns out. My kids haven't minded the gluten-free bread too much, but now that my husband is gluten-free, he "needs" me to come up with something edible for him....
  9. I just drop a glob into one hand, form it into a ball, flatten a little and drop it onto parchment-quick and easy!
  10. I'll add mine, if that's OK. I make these at least once a week: 1/2c butter, melted 2c Pamela's baking mix ~2/3c buttermilk (don't dump all in at once, mix some in a bit at a time to make sure it's not too 'wet') 1/2c-1c sharp cheddar (depending on taste) 1 clove chopped garlic (I acutally use more) mix all, bake 375 for 8-10 min or until edges...
  11. Do you like easy mixed with deep dark chocolate fudge?? 1 can sweetened condensed milk (even fat free works great) 1 1/4 c semi sweet choco chips 1/4 c cocoa powder Bring milk to a slow boil (I use microwave @ 30 sec intervals) Add chips, cover for 2 minutes Stir until glossy, stir in cocoa refrigerate, but check and stir every 20 min...
  12. I'm just trying new recipes, and saw this show, the bread looked amazing and although I've become very proficient baking quickbreads, cookies, muffins, etc... Yeast breads have been something I've yet to master and it's driving me crazy!! I will probably just have to try it out and see what happens. I was just thinking if any of the yeast-bakers out there...
  13. What flavors do you want? Are there any other food allergies? I have a KILLER recipe for both banana and pumpkin spice--both contain dairy and almonds. I have a pretty good chocolate recipe, but I like the Pamela's chocolate cake mix more than any that I've made from scratch. I'm not much for a yellow/white cake, so I haven't made those. Let us know...
  14. I know the part where you sub in gluten-free flour blend and add xanthan gum, but do you think it will work? Anything else I should add--gelatin, etc.... "Sourdough" bread from Good Eats 17 1/2 ounces bread flour, plus extra for shaping 1/4 teaspoon active-dry yeast 2 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt 12 ounces filtered water 2 tablespoons cornmeal...
  15. Dr. Char Genn is with Nob Hill Internal Medicine. She specialized in Celiac disease and nutrition. I LOVE her, but I heard she's not taking new patients at the moment (I know I've referred a lot her way) but I would call anyway!!
  16. Did you call the manager and let him/her know? If not, you should. They really need to know. I talked to the owner at MPP, and since our trip there (and my complaints) they are taking it more seriously, with more understanding. He assures me that if you take and bake or just buy the crusts, they are made in a "clean" area with extremely low risk of CC...
  17. We use Premier Japan - Hoisin Sauce. It's really good! I think there are other brands, but that's my fav. You can google "gluten free hoisin sauce" and you should come up with a few other brands.
  18. Me too!! I will keep you posted. I will really be surprised if he sticks to it 100% though. We talked about it last night and I tried to tell him WHY there's really no point if he doesn't go for it 100%.... He's SOOOO stubborn and thinks he knows everything I like to listen to him when he tries to diagnose some of my patients, it's pretty interesting...
  19. Food Should Taste Good chips I've seen these chips at Costco but didn't buy them because of the oat fiber, but here's the statement from the company: Are any of your products gluten-free? Yes! All of our chips have been tested and certified gluten-free, and all are processed on machinery that that does not process any items with gluten. (If you...
  20. I couldn't believe my ears!! I asked my husband what he wanted for dinner last night and he said he couldn't decide, since it was his last meal before going gluten-free. I about died! I've been bugging him about it for a while now, he's always had symptoms for as long as I've known him, but his blood test came back negative, so that was good enough for...
  21. I've also used the Pamela's baking/pancake mix which works better, it puffs better because of the baking powder.
  22. Technically they're gluten-free, but I was told (by 'Dave' in customer services) that although most of the frapp's are gluten-free, there's a risk of cc because there are a few that aren't. He said it would be safest to get a regular coffee drink instread of the frapp's. I like the caramel too, if I want something cold I get an iced caramel macchiato (sp...
  23. Genetics is very difficult! Explaination for me--I don't have it but both my children do! No one on either side of our families had/has Celiac... (I do believe my dh is the culprit and is in denial)
  24. It sounds just like it! I suffered for years, saw an orthopedic surgeon and had special arch inserts made to put in my shoes and haven't had a problem since. I was at Target yesterday and they have an orthodic I've never seen before. It was about $20, and it had removable arch inserts you can customize for your feet. I've seen similar products offered...
