  1. It is the single best spice cake I've ever had--EVER. The first time I had it, I had to go look at the package because I really didn't believe it was gluten-free. My husband loves it too (and he rarely eats gluten-free)--he says it's his favorite cake, which is a big deal since he generally doesn't like cake. I always keep a bag on hand in the pantry-...
  2. Try taking one of the lundberg cakes and drizzle with a little honey before spreading the PB. I usually drizzle mine over the top of the apples/bananas.
  3. If you wanted something quick, you could get 2 bags of the Namaste spice/carrot cake mix, follow for carrot and add raisins and walnuts (if you're school isn't nut-free). That should make 24 muffins--or you could do mini muffins and get a lot more out of the mix... that would pair nicely with the fruit.
  4. I grew up on the real stuff, so I knew no different until I went to my inlaws and saw them pour on the 'fake' stuff. I thought it was gross, but the guys I work with all grew up on the Butterworths and can't stand the 'real' stuff. One even makes his own with a ton of sugar and something called Maplene. I think making it would keep me from eating it! ...
  5. Before I switched to Smart Balance oil (which has soy) I just used canola oil which always worked great. I try to use as 100% natural as possible when I'm cooking anything. I love the Namaste spice cake and I've used the canola oil for that too with great results. We're only gluten free, so I'm not sure where to start with hints on any recipes. I also...
  6. I'm walking thru the frozen food area of Fred Meyer natural food section, a bright wrapper caught my eye "GLUTEN FREE COOKIE DOUGH" I thought it was a joke. Plus it was on sale. I bought that and the peanut butter zig zag. My dh and dd LOVED the cookie dough (which I thought she'd never be able to eat again) and I thought the PB was TDF! There's a paragraph...
  7. I'm a west coaster, I find it a Fred Meyer in the natural food section, safeway and of course any health food store-which I rarely go to.
  8. I'm not sure if you are or not, but try to eat something within an hour of waking, even if it's a piece of fruit and a few nuts (raw). You need to get your metabolism going if you're not eating until brunch time. I wonder, if you aren't really exercising, start-give it 2 weeks of doing something for at least 30 minutes, even if it's a brisk walk (not a...
  9. this is from their website: Q. Do Quaker Rice Snacks contain gluten? A. We understand that individuals sensitive to gluten cannot digest even trace amounts of gluten. To date, the Food and Drug Administration has not defined the term "gluten free." Since so many of our products contain grain ingredients and many products are made in the same facility...
  10. yes, the exercise if you're not doing it now. If you are, you may need to amp it up. Also, you may want to keep a little notebook and journal ALL your food to see how many calories you really are eating. In my experience, you're either eating too many or too few (but mostly too many). This is good basic-- Cardio 30-60 minutes 3xweek Strenght training...
  11. If there's still blood, you need to call your dr!!! I always tell my patients to ere on the side of caution-better safe than sorry. I have yet to see a dr. angry/upset to rule out a heart attack. I can't imagine one to be upset to rule out colon cancer. If there's no blood, maybe wait. BUT if this is going to be weighing on your mind for the next month...
  12. You'd could google the company and look at their product ingredients. We buy the TreeTop and the Fred Meyer brand that has no sugar added and its just apples and ascorbic acid, I can't imagine one that would have gluten, but you never know...
  13. I'm sure it would be helpful to get insight from someone who was in the same field and could answer what they do when their constantly out to eat, but as far as your overall health goes, you said you can't decide what's more important-your health or a new exciting career. If you're at a dead end job you don't enjoy and you wake up every morning wishing you...

  15. You could always take her off and see what happens. That's what we did with our son and there was an instant change. I could actually take him to the grocery store and have a really great time--never has that happened before in 2.5 years! He's back on gluten before his dr appt next week and he's back to the tantrums, but the intestinal issues haven't returned...
  16. I know-wish we were one of those , it just struck me as funny for some reason-probably because it was 930pm, I'd been up since 6, got 4 hours of sleep the night before (darned hospital call) and I was in the grocery store stocking up for the month since my kids were in bed and I had a moment of peace and quiet. I was a little rummy
  17. My amazing daughter wanted to take part in the American Heart Association jump rope for heart this year in memory of her grandpa who died last summer of heart disease. I was told the top 3 kids from each school who raised the most $ would get Blazer tickets to jump rope with all the other top kids in the area during half time. Madeleine raised 455$ (she...
  18. I picked up a package of Wasa crackers last night and was looking at the nutritional info. Now clearly I know these are NOT gluten-free, but as I scanned the ingredients, basically 100% rye, listed below was "Allergen info: May contain traces of wheat" duh I guess some people can handle rye and not wheat, I just thought it was a little comical...
  19. I 2nd calling the maternity ward and asking about their fridge space. Most hospitals won't allow you to bring your own fridge/microwave because it's not a hospital cleared appliance. It's a fire hazard!! I wouldn't think it would be an issue to bring your own stuff. If they're neatly packed and labeled, it should be fine. Good luck to you and congrats...
  20. We use the bob's cornbread mix. I follow the directions, but add 1 tbs vanilla and then drizzle the top(s) with honey before baking. Everyone fights over the leftovers!
  21. Thanks! My hips and thighs aren't thanking me though... Back to the salads and oatmeal
  22. We regularly attend our local ROCK group. All the kids are roughly the same age. We meet at the local Whole Foods in their community room, occasionally at a restaurant that is gluten-free sensitive and once a year we have a big potluck which is so great for the kids. It is the best thing to see the look on their little faces when they walk into the kitchen...
