  1. If you're concerned withthe legality of it, I would call your local pharmacy and see what they say. I know there's legal/illegal methods of disposal, they know what you're supposed to do with what meds. I would think they would be a good resource
  2. I ate a bag of those (yes, the costco size) in 2 days. No, I didn't feel good about myself, but, darn, those chips are tasty!
  3. I have yet to find a good vanilla wafer type cookie, but for more of a savory one, I like the Mr. Krispers crackers, I also buy the rice crackers from costco. I don't think they'll trick you into thinking you're eating more than you really are, they're pretty measley (sp?). Health valley rice bran crackers are pretty good with a little peanut butter. Haven...
  4. This is so great! I needed a good laugh today!! DH isn't allowed to cook for me any more, if he hands me something that resembles food, I examine very carefully and have him take the 1st bite I'm really not sure, especially after that, that there's ANYTHING I could possibly add to even the score--he ended up eating my leftovers-thought it was great...
  5. Be careful- too low fat won't help you lose weight. You end up consuming more empty calories, you don't feel full and won't lose weight because you keep eating the low fat foods--been there. Calorie reduction is the key--calories in/calories out. You have to expend more than you're consuming. Balance the calorie reduction (but consume no less than 12...
  6. What kind of wafer? Like a Wasa cracker, vanilla wafer, cookie wafers... Not sure what you mean.
  7. My husband thinks he's a great "creative" cook. He scares us sometimes, and it all started from this... I was sick (the only reason I relinquished my kitchen) and he decided to send me to bed and he'd make me some dinner. He was SO proud of himself when he brought me my dinner in bed. To look at it, it was just a regular tasty appearing grilled cheese...
  8. I'm a huge Pamela's fan. It makes the BEST pancakes and waffles I've EVER had!! I use it for all of my baked goods except pie crust. It already has baking powder, soda, salt and xanthan gum, so my baking prep is cut in half. I use it straight across for flour and omit any powder, soda, salt in the recipe (most all the recipes I use are still from my good...
  9. I use the dried apricots from Costco-works like a charm every time. Also lots of water and exercise--walking usually helps. Good luck!
  10. Another little side--I use the Pamelas for everything but pie crust. I use it straight across for flour (and omit ANY baking powder, soda and salt from the recipe) and to keep it from running, cut the butter by 1/2 to 2/3(my preference). You're saving LOTS of calories this way too!! I think they actually turn out better than the gluten cookies I used to...
  11. Running or kickboxing. Kickboxing is great for a really bad day!
  12. We use Schiff children's chewables. They say they contain fish and soy. There's no gluten or dairy.
  13. We clean the laminate with a diluted Murphy's Oil soap-makes the floor SOOO beautiful! Plus you can use it on all the baseboards-pretty much everything. As for installation, ours did NOT come with the tapping block-we thought we could get away with using a small remnant board--BIG mistake!! We ended up ruining a few boards. I recommend using any tools...
  14. If you like oatmeal, try this recipe--protein, fiber and fruit: Baked oatmeal Cooking spray 1 c gluten-free oats 1/2 c dried fruit pieces--can use fresh, diced small 2 c skim milk 2 lg eggs (or 4 whites) 1/4 c sugar (I use sugar free syrup) 1/2 tsp vanilla 1/8 tsp salt Preheat oven to 350 Lightly spray 2 oven safe cereal sized bowls, set...

    ARCHIVED Fat/mental & Celiac?

Sounds like you need to find another "specialist" You can certainly be overweight and have celiac, you can be malnourished and be overweight. We NEVER saw a dietician/nutritionist. I did a lot of research on the web and with a little help from our GI-very little-we went gluten-free immediatly. Get a list of safe foods, stick with fruits, veggies and lean...
  16. I've made about 6 different batches of chocolate chip cookies over the last 2 weeks (and gained 4# ) trying to perfect the tollhouse cookie. This is what I came up with--as close to perfection as I can get: I use Pamelas baking mix as a substitiute for the flour (straight across) and it also replaces any salt, xanthan gum, baking soda and powder (if it...
  17. This is our favorite, make a day ahead (without the cheese) and then add the cheese and more dressing right before serving. For 15-20 people: 2 bags favorite (small) pasta, I like colored rotini--and it looks pretty 1 container feta cheese (I use ATHENOS basil/tomato) 4 roma tomato's 2 cucumbers- 1 bottle Kalamata olives (or black) 1 pkg pepperoni...
  18. CBC is just a complete blood count, good for anemia, infection, etc.. Counts white cells, red cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelets, MCV's (size of RBC's)-helps diagnose anemia, MCHC (calculation of hemoglobin in RBC's), and the RDW (variation in the size of the RBC's)--good for certain types of anemia.
  19. We eat this without problems. My dd is VERY sensitive. We also like Nutrition Kitchen soy pasta if you can do soy.... Lots of fiber and protein, works best if you actually cook the pasta in the sauce you're making, add 1/2 cup extra water. It's like tofu, it takes on the flavor of whatever you're cooking.
  20. What about Kroger? I know the McCormicks extracts are all gluten-free, does anyone know if Kroger's are?
  21. Method is also supposed to be gluten-free. That's what we use.
  22. Thank you SO much for all your suggestions! I'm going to make it tomorrow!
  23. A few recipes call for unflavored gelatin, is it necessary? What does it do and is there a replacement for it if I don't have it on hand? I tried to buy it this morning, but they only had 1 box and it was a pkg of 32 envelopes for 10$, I didn't want that much!! I wanted to make that pizza dough everyone raves about this afternoon, but I don't have time...
  24. We actually have a few restaurants in this area that are almost completely gluten-free. Hawthorn and Corbett Fish House (best catfish EVER), Andina's and Assiago's. We also have 2 pizza places nearby that have gluten-free pizza and are made separately from the regular pizza. Cold Stone Creamery is a great place to go too-they're SO great with us, we just...
  25. The only other person who is 'allowed' to cook for our DD (and now son) is my mom. She's done as much research as I have, lives almost entirely gluten-free since my DD's diagnosis and knows what is OK and what's not. She's the ONLY one I trust. My inlaws tried to talk us into taking our trip to Europe for 2 weeks and leave the kids with them. I had a...
