  1. I have been getting them out in the morning, I bring snacks and try to keep them outside running around until at least lunch. My ds goes down for a nap after lunch and my dd has reading time for at least and hour so I can get a few things done. After that, we try to go outside one more time. The only TV time they get is while I'm making dinner. Although...
  2. So it's been the 2nd full day of summer vacation and my kids are at each other's throats contantly. I've got an almost 3y/o boy who is the stereotypical little brother and who is also used to being with me all day-alone. Enter the almost 7 year old sister fresh from the 1st grade who needs me too. If I could keep them outside all day long, we'd be fine...
  3. Pamela's chocolate cake mix. I always make the mocha cake recipe on the side of the package. My frosting recipe is a basic fudge: 1 can sweetened condensed milk (fat free works fine) 1 1/4 c chocolate chips 1/4 c cocoa powder bring milk to a boiling in microwave--1 minute, stir, then 30 sec intervals add chips, cover for 2 min stir...
  4. I second the crock pot! Although it's only 59 degrees right now in PDX ( ), at 6am I threw in 4 frozen chicken breasts, bottle of grilling sauce and can of drained pineapple tidbits, turned on low and it will be done by 5. It smells AMAZING, I'll serve on gluten-free toast with a salad.
  5. I buy my sweet rice and tapioca flour at an Asian market, $0.69 per pound!! Never had issues with either and my dd is SUPER sensitive.
  6. No one put a contaminated knife in the jar did they???
  7. Congratulations!! I know what a relief this must be for you. We had the same thing happen to us, our son has been gluten-free since mid-March, not only has he grown at least 2 inches since then, he started talking in complete sentences, potty trained, less tantrums and time out times, more focus, plus, he's had the same shoe size (5) since he was 12 mo...
  8. They order us special cleaner that is gluten-free, I just call a week or 2 in advance to make sure they have it. My dd has never had a problem with the fluoride at our dentist...
  9. I'm originally from Toledo WA. I was quite a disappointment (in jest only) to my family, they're all Huskies. My cousin played football there-UW-so they had the rest of my life planned out in Seattle, with a football player... I instead met a Coug loving, business/finance majoring, frat partying, WSU only man and married him 2 years later (our 10th anniverary...
  10. It's one of the best places for kids we've ever been!
  11. We went to the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, WA this weekend and had the BEST time, and no one got sick! We had just a standard room which has a fridge and microwave (and easily sleeps 4-6 adults and 2+ kids). so we brought cereal and fuit for first thing breakfast for the kids, (adults hit the Starbucks ). I had called ahead of time and talked to the...
  12. I had emailed the company and never received a reply. I will try to remember to call on Monday.
  13. I love this one, perfect mix of sweet and salty! PRETZEL JELLO DESSERT 1 stick melted butter 1 1/2 c. crushed gluten-free pretzels 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese 1 lg. container Cool Whip 1 c. sugar 1 (6 oz.) pkg. strawberry Jello 1 lg. pkg. frozen strawberries (I use no-sugar slices) Mix melted butter, pretzels, and 1/2 cup sugar together...
  14. I do a protein shake after my lifting sessions and Krav Maga classes, I blend (with hand blender) 1c light vanilla soy milk, 2 scoops Biochem vanilla protein powder and a handfull of frozen berries. Ends up to be about 300 calories and 30g protein. You could always leave out the berries and just bring in a shakable (is that a word??) container for on-the...
  15. I like the Pamela's too, otherwise I like the recipe on the side of the Hershey's cocoa powder box, and I sub in the mixture I emailed you yesterday--plus xanthan gum. Another idea we did last year and it was a HUGE hit was an ice cream sundae party. I let my dd go to the store with me and pick out all the toppings and candies, we put them all out in little...
  16. I can't take my dd into a bakery, pizza parlor, or even on a hay ride (made from wheat bales), she vomits for about 18 hours.
  17. Do you have a list of those products you inquired about? Anything extra you can share helps us all a lot!!
  18. That sounds like a challange to me!! My MIL re-made all my pies for Thanksgiving dinner because a gluten-free pie "couldn't" taste good--guess who's pies disappeared 1st, she never did apologize..... There are LOTS of options with LOTS of flavors. The recipe section here is great, you can find almost anything and they're almost all tried and true--when...
  19. I've been looking at this recipe for a while now, planned on trying it but never got around to it. Since my dh went gluten-free, he's been on me to come up with a "normal" bread. Now, I like the Pamela's wheat free bread mix, but i made this last night and I LOVE this!!! I had to make a few substitutions with the flour, but it tastes like "normal" bread...
  20. Both of my kids (6 and 2) are expected to keep their rooms picked up. My 6y/o must have room cleaned, bed made, laundry separated and bathroom picked up before there's any TV, computer, etc... She isn't allowed to come and wake us up until 7am (she wakes around 6), and she has to stay in her room and do something quiet (read, color etc) until then, so she...
  21. banana choco-chip 2 ripe bananas mashed (or 2 c canned pumpkin or 2 c applesauce) 2 whole eggs, 2 whites 1 tsp vanilla 2 tsp cinnamon 2 c Pamelas baking mix 1/2 c choco-chips (or more... ) mix bananas, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon. add baking mix, mix well, add choco-chips bake 350 for 25-30 minutes they stay moist for days in...
  22. I would, I did. Especially if the baby is showing signs. However----Our son's blood test at age 2 was negative, his biopsy at age 2.5 was negaitve, but his dietary response was positive. He has grown about 2 inches in the last 2 months, is fully potty trained, has started talking in complete sentences, eczema is gone, not a diaper rash since, can now sit...
  23. I wouldn't look at it as a punishment to your family. You should focus on all the food you can eat, not what you can't. It is SO overwhelming at first, take one day at a time. You and your family can have all the fruits and veggies you can handle, chicken, fish, rice, potatoes, steak--it's really a perfect time with all the fresh produce that's in right...
