My children have celiac disease. I eat a mostly gluten-free diet, but don't actually have the disease. No ingredient listed appears to contain gluten and they list soy as the only allergen. I guess it's one of those things that you can try if you want and if you have a reaction, you'll know. Otherwise, try a different brand. Centrum is gluten-free and...

ARCHIVED Danino Yogurt For Kids By Danon
celiac-mommy replied to Annaem's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is the info from the Dannon website: Q: Is Dannon yogurt gluten free? A: We no longer use the term gluten free with respect to our yogurts. Instead we separate our products into gluten safe or not gluten safe categories, depending on the specific brand of Dannon yogurt. Dannon Plain yogurts (Lowfat, Nonfat and Natural) are all gluten safe. However... -
ARCHIVED Gi Said My Toddler's Biopsy Was Inconclusive?
celiac-mommy replied to buckeyenc5's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This was my daughter-EXACTLY. She would also cry in pain with every meal. Her blood work and biopsy was positive, but she was older, so I guess more time to do damage...??? My son had a host of symptoms but a negative blood test and negative biopsy, visually the intestine looked somewhat scalloped and mildly damaged, but the samples turned out negative... -
I take the Women's One-A-Day, it has 18mg of iron which is 100%, but I also make sure and eat iron rich foods. My hematocrit is naturally low, so I try to beef it up as much as I can. Watch it though, too much and you can get constipated. This is the statement from the company, not sure if other's here use them with no problem: Q. How much gluten...

ARCHIVED Is There Anything I Can Do To Supress My Appetite?
celiac-mommy replied to blondebombshell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
All I can do is to tell you what works for me--I've had the same problem for years! I try not to eat after 7pm--I keep a big glass of ice water with lemon with me after 7 Sugar free gum-keeps your mouth busy I exercise in the evening. It really curbs the eating. My kids are in bed by 8, I work out from 8-9, shower, pack lunches and am in bed... -
ARCHIVED New To This-bread
celiac-mommy replied to Fullofquestions's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Angeline's bakery has the best gluten-free bread I've tasted, but if you don't live in the Portland OR area, shipping is pretty expensive. But here's the website: www.angelinesbakery.com Otherwise, we make the Pamela's amazing wheat free bread from a mix. If you like it, you can buy it in bulk from a.m.a.z.o.n. Those are the best breads we've found... -
ARCHIVED Gaining Weight Training For 1/2 Ironman Instead Of Losing
celiac-mommy replied to a topic in Sports and Fitness
Have you taken your measurements before? It is perfectly reasonable to gain that in muscle, if not more. If you've recently taken up swimming, it uses different muscles than running and biking. Your measurements would probably show a loss even though the scale goes up. If you feel that it's actually fat that you've gained then 2 things can be true--like... -

I met a guy today who told me about his website. I checked it out and it's pretty great. It has worldwide info on it which may be helpful to anyone who lives in those areas or who may be traveling there. Look especially at the restaurant section. If there are restaurants in your area and they aren't on the list, submit them. I added 3 in Portland right...

Can it be true? A doctor listens to the parents and looks at the child in question. How is the child reacting to gluten? What are the symptoms? When you take the child off of gluten what happens? What happens when you challange the child with gluten? Let's do the blood test--negative. Let's go ahead and do the biopsy--negative. Let's re-examine the...

ARCHIVED Wilton Decorating Sugars And Sprinkles
celiac-mommy replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No ingredients in either the sprinkles or sugars contain gluten and that was confirmed with the company, it was just that they also produce wheat containing items in the same facility. -
ARCHIVED Wilton Decorating Sugars And Sprinkles
celiac-mommy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called Wilton, and although there isn't gluten in the product, they do produce gluten containing items in the same facility. There are certain companies (Envirokids for example) that we use despite the warning because we've never had any problems, but I've never used Wilton. Does anyone use these with no problems or has someone had a problem??? Thanks... -
ARCHIVED Easter Candy
celiac-mommy replied to Gluten=bad's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's a Hershey product which is now saying that if a product contains "natural flavors" in the ingredients, they can't guarantee it's gluten-free. Their website says this: How does The Hershey Company manage allergies? The Hershey Company strives to provide its consumers with accurate, reliable ingredient statements upon which consumers can make their... -
gluten-free oats, berries--especially raspberries, even frozen!! We eat a LOT of fruits and veggies. Dried fruits are good too, like apricots. If you like your yogurt, add gound flax and raspberries to it for an extra boost. Nuts are good too.

celiac-mommy replied to glutenfreemeg's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought a big bag of the BRM flour and then couldn't stand the taste, so I tried cutting it in half and using brown rice flour for the other half. It actually worked pretty good. I made cookies and muffins with it and they were really good. Not as good as the Pamelas, but I will keep doing it until the bag is gone, then never buy it again!! I made... -

ARCHIVED Worried That Bloods Will Be Negative
celiac-mommy replied to nikky's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Daughter's blood test came back very positive when she was 4, biospy confirmed. Son's test was negative at 2, biospsy showed a small amt. of damage, waiting for results on Monday. If insurance covers the blood test, might as well do it. Enterolab is spendy, but you could always look into it later. -

ARCHIVED If Gluten Free Works Why Be Diagnosed?
celiac-mommy replied to ruthykins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thankfully we were at the right place at the right time with the right Dr. when our DD was starting to have obvious symptoms. (the only other thing I noticed is that she didn't grow in 1 year in height or weight-but was in 95th percentile and dropped to ~85th, so we didn't think anything of it). We saw the Dr, had the blood test, results back within a week...
