  1. Hi, Phyllis Here are a couple of links where you can find local San Diego information. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  2. When I was new that's what I wanted, too. But everything I looked at was so all-inclusive that I felt it was kind of a waste. There was too much info about things I had no interest in and would never buy. I think most of us get to the point of making a list of what we normally bought and then checking each item out for suitability. For instance, look...
  3. It works fine. It's how I make "lasagna" now. I call it "Gluten Free Lasagna Flavored Rotelle Bake" and I use Ancient Harvest Corn-Quinoa Blend Gluten Free Rotelle Pasta.
  4. Constipation may have been normal for you but it is not "normal." Your body was not designed to function that way. Were you tested and treated for Lyme?
  5. As much as I detest those annoying automated responses, they probably resorted to using them out of desperation because most people are too lazy to look up the info in the FAQ's. My guess is they get second inquiries from a tiny fraction of the people who send them an initial inquiry.
  6. Unless it's a total health issue and you would have to quit your job if you can't work from home, don't even mention how the arrangement might benefit you because your boss could NOT care less what's in it for you. Nothing personal against your boss - that's just how it is. If you want any chance of your boss accepting the idea, you have to point out...
  7. Someone at church brought this issue up. If you put millet and thyroid into the same search engine search, you will find all sorts of information regarding what millet can do to the thyroid.
  8. I have never seen masa harina that was anything except corn treated with lime. Just because it doesn't say gluten free doesn't mean it isn't. When you get to feeling adventurous, mix a bit of xanthan gum into the masa before you add the water and see if it makes the tortillas flexible enough to use as burrito-type wraps. Inquiring minds want to...
  9. If you know you are 7 chapters behind in class, you can read those 7. Have you exchanged cell phone numbers with anyone else in the class? Or do any of your friends know someone in the class? Try by whatever means you can think of to at least get the reading info. Does no one have the class outline? You seem to have seen it, or was it discussed verbally...
  10. I have never been a teacher but I have been a front line supervisor and can verify that it is virtually impossible to accommodate everyone's special needs, no matter how hard you try and no matter how much you might want to. HOWEVER, I think Lisa's complaint was that (combining figures of speech here . . ) the rug was pulled out from under her feet...
  11. That is a result of combining erythromyacin and fluoride during the tooth forming process. Knowledgeable prescribers should have cautioned parents to use bottled water until the prescription ran its course. Fluoride alone is not responsible, nor is the erythromyacin. It's the combination. I knew this growing up. Too bad the physicians where you grew...
  12. FWIW, when my daughter was born, I was told that each baby differs slightly in the age they are ready to accept solid foods. The way to know when your baby is ready is to watch the tongue. As long as the baby keeps moving the tongue towards the front of the mouth and out, they are not yet ready. Somewhere in that 4-6 month range, or maybe even a bit later...
  13. I use blogger.com because the format is easy enough for even me to figure out. So-called "serious" bloggers use Wordpress.org and have their own domain name that they pay to host. That way they have total control over everything as long as they "pay the rent" aka hosting fees and domain renewal. Google owns blogger.com and it seems to be in a perpetual...
  14. I don't think there is any protocol beyond diet. Some people just need that piece of paper to enforce their inner discipline. Parents may need it to be able to set up a 504 plan for modifications in the classroom. College students may need it in order to be exempt from a requirement to live in a dorm with a mandatory food plan. Employees may need it...
  15. Congratulations!
  16. In general, eating gluten-free away from home is difficult at best. Remember how clueless you recently were? Most other people still are. While most natural food in its original stste is gluten free, gluten contaminates a lot of things during processing and handling. Therefore food prepared by others should be considered unsafe for you. Fast...
  17. In our culture of expecting instant gratification, it's easy to think that if you try the diet for a meal or two, things should get better. But it took you 19 years to get into this mess and there is no Star Trek magic to just beam you out of it. It's gonna take time - that's just how it is. There are plenty of official web sites and articles that you...
  18. Do diligent research on this, no matter how good of an idea it seems to be. There used to be a restaurant chain called Skinny Haven that served low calorie foods and many items were also low fat and/or low sodium. Many items also plugged easily into Weight Watchers and diabetic diets. You could get salads and steaks and regular stuff like that so non...
  19. Eating out can be very tricky, especially when you are new and learning. Most people give it up entirely at first, and eat out rarely even once they have some experience under their belts. Nor being careful about cross contamination pretty much guarantees that you will get glutened. If you go for a time without gluten and then get glutened (no matter how...
  20. I haven't yet found a bread I like, but I gotta admit I NEVER would have described the taste quite like that! Just curious - how do you know what that tastes like? Inquiring minds want to know!
  21. If you poke your nose around the board long enough you will stumble upon member after member who suffered for YEARS before either getting a diagnosis or just going off gluten. It's probably a safe bet that each time a doctor tried a different treatment the patient hoped and prayed it would help. But it didn't. For some, this sent on for decades. ...
  22. If you spend much time thinking about it, you'll probably want to! Everywhere you look you see people eating gluteny finger foods and you just *know* they are touching the escalator railing, atm pad, grocery cart handle, and who knows what else! A person could easily become neurotic, never mind paranoid! That ain't no way to live so just remember...
  23. How about 0GLU10 When they can't figure it out, tell them "zero gluten" ( "0 glu ten") OK - that's kinda far fetched It might help to have a license plate frame (you can get those to say almost anything from Cafe Press) that helps explain. It could say something like "Celiacs eat gluten zero gluten" or the ever popular "Celiacs...
  24. I have worked snack bars for youth sports and high school games. What we used was usually purchased at Costco or some other warehouse-type store. Stuff isn't opened until it's ready to prepare, so the containers are usually available, even if they have to be retreived from the trash. (eewww-gross but can be done if needed.) I would suggest going around...
  25. Let me add that it took you 19 years to get to where you are and it is not realistic to expect to regain your helath in 19 minutes, 19 hours, 19 days, etc. It is going to take time. It sounds to me that the methods you are considering will do you great harm. Adding dangerous and potentially toxic substances to a body that is already overloaded with...
