  1. This is something that is been going around in my mind for some time now. Literally from the moment of conception, people are exposed to a toxic soup of chemical preservatives, artificial flavors and sweeteners, color dyes, and who knows what else. Read ingredient lists. While that stuff might be on the GRAS list, I can't help but wonder if any testing...
  2. I saw an episode of Dogs 101 where this woman's dog goes everywhere with her and is able to tell when she has been glutened - they actually used the word CONTAMINATED! - and lets her know. This is a very good thing because most of her symptoms are neurological and when the dog alerts her that she was glutened in a super market or restaurant for example...
  3. One Focus On The Family program featured a lady who had been adopted off the streets of Korea when she was about 6 or so. She did say she had lice so bad they finally had to shave her head!
  4. That's really cool! Doesn't it make you feel good when somebody goes out of their way to be nice?
  5. Have you eaten anything different? Or more than usual of something you usually only eat a little of? Keep a food diary or at least good mental notes. Hopefully you'll notice something. Tell you doctor you didn't pay to find out your bowel was irritated. You already know that. You paid to find out what was causing the irritation!
  6. Lots of things can cause brain fog and confusion in sensitive people. In addition to gluten, you could be having problems with other grain proteins or with dairy or soy. Food dyes cause problems in some people. I believe you have already mentioned MSG. A man at church has become basically house bound because he CANNOT be exposed to flourescent lights...
  7. I have heard that a thick coating of mayonaise works on your hair. You wrap your head in plastic (to keep the mayo off of everything else) and leave it long enough to suffocate the lice. I think it might need to be left over night? A search engine probe should turn up answers. However, unless you get them off of everything your head has come into...
  8. I haven't done it personally, but I do know that frozen items can be shipped through the "big three" meaning Post Office, UPS and FedEx. If you use regular ice, you have to not only insulate to keep it as cold as possible, but also make sure the contents are sealed in plastic so any melted moisture does not get out. If you use dry ice, it must be declared...
  9. I agree that you probably don't have a legal case. You could, however, collect as much concrete diagnostic info as you can - info the doctors should have known but apparently did not - and send a letter to the AMA and your state licensing board.
  10. I have never seen flours displayed any other way than together. IMO, it is so very NOT safe. I asked the manager at my local Ralph's and was told that the Bob's Red Mill display was set up by a BRM rep. My local Henry's (bought out by Wild Oats which was bought out by Whole Paycheck Foods but still called Henry's ) even displays all the flours together...
  11. Eeewww! Just in case Santa hasn't finished shopping for you yet, now you know what to ask for!
  12. I've been 60 for almost a month now so I guess I qualify! Anyway, I remember having allergy tests as a kid but I don't remember what for. (Goes with being over 60, don'tcha know . . ) I had digestive issues in my 20's. That doctor with the high-priced reputation told me he couldn't find anything wrong with me but I must have thought there was...
  13. Welcome, Andrea Most foods are naturally gluten free, including coffee. HOWEVER, stay away from the flavored ones because many of them have gluten in the flavorings. And NEVER buy coffee beans from the bulk bins or grind coffee in the store. Many members have learned the hard way that's not a good idea. But plain old coffee you brew at home...
  14. Anything touched by someone who has eaten gluten and not washed their hands or face or brushed their teeth is a prime candidate for cross contamination. Often overlooked areas include things like refridgerator door handles, microwave oven handles, kitchen towels, door knobs, faucet handles, the remote control, computer keyboard and mouse, the car door...
  15. The use of organic vs. conventional crop management has nothing to do with the potential for nut contamination in the nut-free varieties of Larabar or any other product. Any nut contamination that might occur would be during processing.
  16. What all the others said. In addition, as I'm sure you realize or you would not have posted in the first place, being with the wrong person is infinitely worse than being unattached. Don't lose sight of that. I'm not in your shoes, but if you are so inclined, I believe some of the online dating match-up programs have areas or places that you list...
  17. I have problems with Larabars but I think it is because everything in them is raw rather than cooked and I still have issues with some raw foods that are OK if they are cooked (carrots and bananas, for example.) The reaction I get from Larabars is different than what happens if I've been glutened.
  18. These are both well known, tried and true tactics commonly used by the bad guys. Unfortunately it looks like they are not well known enough. If you have parked your car safely at the mall and come out to find your car is now between two vans - especially if either is a panel van - go back into the mall and get a security guard. Don't feel like a paranoid...
  19. More than one poster has mentioned that gluten triggers severe irrational anger in either themselves or someone they know. It has occurred to me that the entire prison population would be better off totally gluten free. Maybe some inmates would never even be there in the first place and everyone would behave better without gluten. Just a thought.
  20. How terribly sad. I'm so sorry. Prayers for him as well as his family and friends.
  21. I made Patti's recipe yesterday using butter because it's what I had. I also added
  22. Actually, the thought of being in a hospital, retirement facility, or nursing home borders on terrifying. I still am almost in jaw-dropping disbelief at how ignorant so many members of the medical community and food service industry can be. When the two groups are combined in one place such as a hospital or nursing home, it almost becomes an early death...
  23. For what it's worth, once the new labeling laws are finalized at 20 ppm, the shelves will be full of products such as Rice Dream that can legally claim they are gluten free but really are not. Every processed product you buy you will have to test out for yourself as to whether or not it is safe for you. Label reading with each subsequent purchase may or...
  24. Somehow things like this always seem to take longer than planned. Glad to have the board back!
