  1. For whatever it's worth, I don't think you are taking this too far. Remember the dog poop analogy. If gluten were dog poop, would you still touch what it had touched? How well do you know this guy? Does he have to eat in the middle of a set? Is he aware of the gluten thing? I hope you continue to feel fine! I know you have posted elsewhere...
  2. In this forum and elsewhere many have mentioned that High Fructose Corn Syrup may not be good for you and may even be at least one cause of American obesity because it blocks or delays the signal to your brain that you have had enough to eat and you can stop now. High Fructose Corn Syrup was mentioned as something else to avoid on the soy thread but rather...
  3. Just adding that I am following this thread because I would like to find a good sandwich bread as well. I tried Bob's Red Mill Yeast Free Sandwich Bread made with white rice flour instead of brown rice flour because rice bran doesn't work for me. Anyway I really didn't like the taste or the texture the first time around, so I made it again! I still...
  4. In addition to all of the above, check out Trader Joe's Honey Nut O's cereal. My college-age daughter has eaten Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast since she was a toddler, but that doesn't work any more. Trader Joe's Honey Nut O's are much less expensive and are not sweetened with barley malt. She does just fine with them. Not everyone can eat oats, but...
  5. Yes. Perhaps you could find some other visual aid so he has the same 3D understanding of cell structure that the other kids are going to get from doing this activity. I actually think this would be an excellent learning tool if they used something other than food! Whether or not you decide to make his teacher aware of the family history of the...
  6. Someone in one of my daughter's classes had one but returned it within the 30 day "trial" period. Apparently if both sides are inflated to a firmer setting, it creates a bit of a "ditch" down the center of the bed causing both people to roll to the middle. Not exactly as comfortable as advertised.
  7. The bed deflates or inflates to make it softer or more firm. When it inflates, it pulls in air and moisture from the room it's in. Mold spores are *everywhere* (even embedded in Antarctic ice) and could have been "inhaled" at anytime during the manufacturing or testing process as well as transportation or storage or even - gasp - the owner's home. ...
  8. I think the negative results mean that you have healed up since you went gluten free, not that you do not need to strictly follow a gluten-free diet. Once you have healed up, a bowl of oatmeal a day for a month is not enough to re-destroy your villi. I hope your doctor gets his hands on some more information on this topic. It sounds like he doesn...
  9. No, you are not wrong to expect the medical community to have a basic knowledge of Celiac disease. The two groups of people who should have the best understanding of it - the medical community and the food service industry - are among the least knowledgeable people out there. (Yes, I know there are exceptions.) It's just a shame. Let's hope she gets on...
  10. Becki, I think you are making it more difficult than it needs to be. You CANNOT eat: wheat, rye, barley and maybe oats. Period. Four things. Not a mile long list - four things. You CAN eat: EVERYTHING ELSE! All meats, all vegetables, all fruits, other grains and starches, EVERYTHING except those 4 things! If you are walking though the...
  11. Personally I have not had problems with products prepared in a shared facility. As has been pointed out before, if your entire home is not gluten free, your home is a shared facility. However I have been zapped a couple of times from products made on shared equipment, so I now avoid those. You just don't know how well the equipment was cleaned between...
  12. Hi, Becki When you go grocery shopping shop around the perimeter of the store. That is where you will find the fresh and frozen meats and produce that Shay mentioned. There is indeed a whole world of healthy choices in almost infinite variety out there! What won't work anymore is eating dried processed food out of a box and/or driving through...
  13. I hope you left something out of this list because otherwise if the only protein your teenage son is getting is one egg per day plus a glass of milk, I am not surprised that he is tired and not gaining weight. Teenage boys have hollow legs that they fill up with food on a daily basis. It seems to be a requirement to becoming a man! Anyway, I...
  14. Compare the ingredients in the 2 varieties and note what is in the shortbread cookies that is not in the raisin walnut cookies. Try eating something else containing that specific ingredient. If there is more than one, experiment with only one at a time. That should help figure it out!
  15. Welcome, Angie! Unfortunately your story is far too common. You have come to a great place top learn. Read and ask questions to your heart's content!
  16. I think this is the key here. Once you are in and have passed basic training, they have invested a lot of time, effort, and money in you and if they can accommodate something that happens after all that has been done by giving you shore duty or the equivalent for the duration of your tour, it is in everyone's best interests that they do so. On the other...
  17. Dove doesn't make "hugs" but you can get small bags of several varieties at WalMart for $2-3. My personal preference is the dark chocolates.
  18. Hi Carmen and welcome to the forum! Keep reading - you will learn more than you thought it was possible to know! Try to get a copy of the test results from the doctor, but you should know that "positive" is "positive." It means your daughter is producing antibodies to gluten and will need to avoid it for life. It is a challenge at first but soon...
  19. YAY! The cookies look yummy! It's way to hot and muggy here to even think about baking!
  20. As someone who absolutely loves the K.I.S.S. rule, I can help with at least part of this. For the picture, click on "My Controls" then "Edit Avatar Settings" on the left. The picture we all see for each post is called an "Avatar" and to put something there click on "Browse" and follow probably the same steps you did to upload the picture to your...
  21. That what I was thinking! On the other hand, something like that should put an end to the idea that people actually choose to eat gluten-free food as one chooses to eat vegetarian food or something!
  22. Rachel's advice - as usual is right on. My thoughts when I read your post are the same as they are now. I would try to find out where and how your daughter picked up the parasite. Might you and your wife also have it but your immune systems are dealing with it better than hers is? I hope she is feeling better soon!
  23. Ditto on that one. It's one of those things that seems like a good idea at the time but you soon learn it wasn't so good after all.
  24. For what it's worth, there are natural progesterone creams on the market that are absorbed through the skin so you would get the benefit of it no matter what shape your digestive system might be in.
  25. Nope. If their pan were to be sprayed with something that released just a trace of dog poop would you cut off the bottom and the sides? Insert little green icon here! Thank them for their response but kindly and gently let them know that their pan release agent makes the product toxic to millions of people - including you - and rather than being...
