  1. You should definitely be eating gluten when you are tested. I don't know if 5 days will mess with your results, though. Open Original Shared Link "Before being tested, one should continue to eat a diet that includes foods with gluten, such as breads and pastas. If a person stops eating foods with gluten before being tested, the results may be negative...
  2. Support groups are always a good group to contact. I have always gotten helpful e-mail replies. Here is one for Rhode Island (check out their Where Can I Eat? section): Open Original Shared Link I don't know if these are close: Open Original Shared Link Have fun!
  3. Sounds like you had an awesome time!
  4. My brother and I were not diagnosed as infants but we did show signs. My Mother took us to doctors often but they never tested for Celiac Disease until we were teens. So, I can only tell you what are particular symptoms were but babies with Celiac Disease can experience a wide variety of symptoms. I had diarrhea when switched to formula, so, the doctors...
  5. There are so many reactions to Celiac Disease: tummy aches, poop problems, migraines, neurological issues, rashes, brain fog, vomiting, mood swings, tiredness, etc. I can't even list them all! You also do intestinal damage even if there are no outward symptoms. Just wait and see what the test results say and factor in how your son is off gluten. It's...
  6. Congratulations on you blue stripe on your green belt! I am glad it is working well for you and it will help keep your body in shape for sure.
  7. I love pasta salad. it also does well for work functions when we all have to bring a dish. I like using vinaigrettes and fresh veggies. Mmm.
  8. You have to think about gluten differently. Think of it as poison to your body. Would you eat meat that had just touched cleaning chemicals? I know I wouldn't. Any little bit of gluten will hurt if you have Celiac Disease.
  9. I just use egg replacer when baking.
  10. I think this might be the stuff my brother likes. He has been drinking it for awhile and loves it.
  11. You could try on-line classes since you'd be submitting via the internet. Are you eating gluten-free? I found working and going to college at the same time to be doable as long as I followed my diet. So, it can be done! Just make sure you are eating right, even if it means only fresh fruit, veggies, and meat. It may be boring but you will not get sick...
  12. I love this magazine. However, I thought the article about her book was a bog let down.
  13. I know you can do a 504 Plan. It is best to talk with your child's teacher(s) to make sure you are all on the same page and discuss what the school does for kids who have allergies. Good luck!
  14. How weird about the bread. I loved the bread sold in Spain and Portugal that I brought a whole suitcase home full of different products. El Corte Ingles has some good options since you are sticking to eating inside.
  15. Is there a reason you HAVE to attend? If not, I wouldn't give them my business. If you need to go, then ask if they can reduce the price since they can't serve you. You can always throw in the ADA thing and they might cooperate but it seems like they don't really care. Good luck!
  16. Even when your in an English speaking place it can be hard to work out. There are a few restaurants in Barcelona that have gluten-free menus (even gluten-free noodles). Hopefully your next try with plain and fresh items will yield better results! Enjoy the city, and I hope you don't get sick anymore!
  17. I always react to corn tortilla/taco shells. Maybe you had cross-contaminated ones? ALWAYS be careful at restaurants if you are eating. It is only socially awkward when people around you treat you like an oddball for being having an auto-immune disorder. I wouldn't eat around those types. When I was in college, I would just say, "I have a genetic...
  18. I am sorry you got so sick. Hopefully the next outings will go much better!
  19. I wouldn't worry about the bottoms of your plates touching their counter. With door handles and faucets- it should be fine unless you were in a bakery covered in flour. It is good to wash hands before eating anyway, but I wouldn't worry about that being your reason for getting glutened. You can also wash dishes by hand or in the dishwasher and don't need...
  20. Last time I e-mailed Wet'N'Wild they were but just e-mail them to be sure.
  21. The only time I eat fries out is if it is a place that handles gluten-free people or only sells fries!
  22. I am lucky to have a full kitchen where I work now. It makes lunches much nicer. When I didn't, though, I would stick to fruits and veggies that did not need refrigerating, cereal, dried fruit, low-fat chips, muffins, fruit bars, Thai Kitchen microwavable soups (if there is a microwave and water), etc. Sometimes I would bring bread, a tomato, a packet...
  23. I can't help but notice how many restaurants on this show add flour, barley, and gluten to food in odd ways. They add flour into rubs for meat, make sauces with beer, use flour so food doesn't stick together, etc. It just shows how careful we have to be when eating out. You may say no wheat or flour but then eat a dinner covered in sauce from a beer. ...
