ARCHIVED Cold And Flu Season - What Do You Take?
burdee replied to Lesx2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After my white blood cell count decreased even more and I seemed to get one cold after another, my doc suggested arabinogalactin powder. I take a teaspoon dissolved in a cup of water 2x daily. Arabinogalactin is the source of echinechia, but works faster and better than any echinechia product I ever tried. Within 20-30 minutes after taking Arabino, my cold... -
ARCHIVED Anyone From Washington State?
burdee replied to Noche22's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm in Seattle. However, there is a fantastic support group which meets in Bellingham. See Open Original Shared Link The leader is Kelle Rankin-Sunter. The website will give you info about support group meetings. Also the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America is located in Auburn. Contact them at Open Original Shared Link for questions you might... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Explain The Difference Between Sugars To Me?
burdee replied to Noche22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Also many people with celiac disease damage have 'leaky gut' syndrome. People with 'leaky gut' often get painful reactions from alcohol based sweetners, like sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, maltitol, etc. Table sugar can come from sugar cane or sugar beets. Many people have cane sugar allergies, which can be diagnosed by ELISA (IgE, IgA and/or IgG mediated... -
I always assume I can't eat the airline meal (if one is offered), because I have 6 allergy restrictions besides gluten intolerance. So I bring in my carry-on luggage (my backpack or large purse) a peanutbutter and banana wrap on a rice tortilla or canned sardines and rice cakes plus a variety pack of dried fruits. I usually pack in my checked luggage a couple...

ARCHIVED Severe Fungal Infection
burdee replied to applegirl03's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed with candida (fungus infection) by a Metametrix Lab microbial profile stool test in 2009. My doc prescribed nystatin (2 capsules 3x daily with meals) for 2 months. I did NOT have any 'die off' symptoms, but I did have initial side effects of nystatin (nausea and gas) for about 3 days until my body adjusted. I've taken at least 6 more stool... -
Sorry, I never flown, only driven, to Vancouver. (4 hours from Seattle.) That city has a great celiac support group and many good gluten free restaurants. However, I don't know the airport. Also I haven't visited the city in years and can't remember any gluten-free restaurants. You could google the celiac support group for Vancouver, if you'll be in Vancouver...

ARCHIVED Some Results Back For Thyroid And Vitamins
burdee replied to okieinalaska's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your TSH is in the normal range (which yours appears to be), many docs won't do any more thyroid hormone tests. That's not to say that you might have thyroid problems. What symptoms led you to request or consider thyroid test results? You could have normal TSH and abnormal free T4 or free T3 or even abnormal thyroid antibody tests. You may need to see... -
WA or BC?

I'm uncertain what you need from a doc. However, my doctor is at the Tahoma Clinic in Renton. Docs at that clinic all use a very holistic/naturopathic approach. If you want a mainstream doc to give you a traditional celiac blood test and endoscopy diagnosis, you may want to look elsewhere. However, if you want docs who look for the causes of your symptoms...

ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism - Reaction To Levothyroxin Pills
burdee replied to Pac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What symptoms did you describe to your doc before he prescribed levothyroxine? Did he also give you a TPOab test for Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroiditis antibodies? People with celiac often get autoimmune Hashimoto's. If your T3 and T4 levels are normal and your TSH is only slightly elevated, you may need a lower dose of levothyroxine (which is a T4 supplement... -
Yes, I exercise daily (60-90 minute walks and 20 minutes of weights and yoga). Exercise helps increase endorphins which increases immunity. I actually have a great naturopathic holistic doc who prescribed low dose naltrexone, which increases endorphins and improves immunity, and arabinogalactins (the source of echinechea) to fight respiratory infections....

ARCHIVED Is It Bad For Me To Eat The Same Thing Every Day?
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What kind of allergy test did you take? IgG? IgE? IgA? Skin prick? Blood test? Did you have many reactions or only a few? -
I never had low WBC before this year. I also rarely got colds, and for those rare colds I could fight off cold symptoms with a good night's sleep before this year. My WBC was lower than normal in September and much lower in November. That's not a good trend. I also had all those Leukopenia symptoms like fatigue, frequent respiratory infections and developing...

Yes, because celiac disease can prevents absorption of Vitamin D and other vitamins/minerals which help immunity, we can develop deficiencies of all those nutrients which help us fight off viral and bacterial infections. I struggled through 4 years of gastrointestinal infections (8) after I was diagnosed with celiac disease, before I started taking HCl supplements...

ARCHIVED Is It Bad For Me To Eat The Same Thing Every Day?
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree that some allergy tests (but not all) are unreliable. Any test results, which indicate you have 30-40 different food reactions, suggests that the lab, which processed your sample, has poor quality control standards. My doc told me to consider the whole pattern of allergen reactions on a test. If I had many 'reactions' I should only consider the highest... -
ARCHIVED Is It Bad For Me To Eat The Same Thing Every Day?
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've eaten basically the same 2 breakfasts (with minor variations) since I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance and 6 other allergies 5 years ago: (1) peanut butter and fruit (variations) on a gluten free English muffin or (2) cooked gluten free cereal with hazelnut milk, almond butter and a variety of fruit. Until this year I ate Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty... -
ARCHIVED Autoimmune Tests?
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A rheumatologist will look for rheumatoid arthritis, which is autoimmune, and some other autoimmune diseases, which involve joints, etc. However, other autoimmune conditions which are highly correlated with celiac disease and gluten intolerance include: type 1 diabetes, Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Lupus, autoimmune chronic hepatitis, Addison... -
ARCHIVED Autoimmune Tests?
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Jason: I never had any general autoimmune test, but I had a blood test for a specific autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's thyroiditis), which could have caused my low thyroid condition. I believe docs just test for individual conditions which they consider 'autoimmune' or "your body's antibodies are attacking itself, but we don't know why" (because they refuse... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free, But Now Also Dairy, Soy, Egg, Caffeine Free?!
burdee replied to GFshay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My 7 food restrictions weren't 'sensitivities' that improved with time. I had IgG and IgA mediated reaction diagnosed (by ELISA test) allergies (or intolerances if you're in that camp), in addition to gluten intolerance. I noticed with every diagnosed allergen, that the longer I abstained from that food (or ingredient) the more intense and longer lasting... -
I used to make Russian tea cakes from standard (gluten containing) recipes long before I was dx'd with celiac disease. More recently I just followed the standard recipe and substituted gluten free flour (probably Bob's Red Mill flour mix) and Spectrum Naturals palm oil shortening (for the butter), but also added 1/2 teaspoon of xanthum gum per 3-4 dozen cooky...

ARCHIVED Heart Palpitations And Gas?
burdee replied to jaybee465's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Heart palpitations are my standard reaction to cane sugar (a diagnosed IgG mediated delayed reaction allergy). I get gas/bloating/gut cramps from all my other 6 allergy/intolerances. -
ARCHIVED Mercury?
burdee replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree. Getting those silver filling replaced would be my first recommendation. My husband recently had some test results that indicated he might have heavy metal poisoning. So his doc wanted to do a more complicated (more expensive) test for heavy metals. I asked my husband whether he had silver fillings. Then I suggested he get those replaced before spending... -
ARCHIVED Why Do We Need Mega Doses Of Certain Vitamins
burdee replied to plumbago's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hypochloridia can prevent absorption of Vitamin D and B12 from foods we eat. I was also diagnosed with hypochloridia after years of symptoms of low stomach acid. I was also rather low on Vitamin D and had a low white blood cell count on a recent blood test. Low WBC can be caused by B12 and/or folate deficiency and compromise immunity so that you are vulnerable... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroid Follow Up W/ Gp Not Good... Help :(
burdee replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had a similar experience with Levoxyl (T4 supplement). After taking that for almost 2 months I had no improvement in my hypothyroid symptoms (esp. feeling cold, low energy and constipation). So my doc told me to increase my dose from 50 to 75 mcg. Then I got hyperthyroid symptoms (palpitations, difficulty breathing and some diarrhea). My doc then told me... -
ARCHIVED Poll: gluten-free Diet - Easy Or Hard
burdee replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with celiac and began to abstain from gluten in mid 2004. During 2006-7 I was also diagnosed with 6 other delayed reaction (IgG or IgA mediated) allergies. So I now have 7 total food restrictions (plus sorbitol, caffeine and alcohol sensitivies/intolerances). Compared to my current diet with 7 diagnosed restrictions, my original gluten free...
