ARCHIVED 3 Positve Things About Celiac Disease...
hayley3 replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't want to rent your husband, I just want to know where you found him so I can go get me one. And I do want to agree with you about this forum. Such a great group of people. I appreciate their persistence in explaining the same thing over and over for people like me. I am finally a believer but probably would have went on still looking for... -
ARCHIVED Ribbon-like Stools From Colon Spasms Or Pellet Stool

I ate 3 cheese sticks at White Castle on Saturday. On Sunday I ate 3 more cheese sticks and had a vanilla frosty. On Monday someone took me out for my birthday. And....I just had to eat that biscuit. Funny thing is, I didn't use to eat the biscuits at restaurants, but now that I know I shouldn't, I just HAD to eat it. By that night my stomach... -

Thanks ravenwoodglass. I ate wheat on Sat, Sun and Mon. I've had bloating, pain, and flat stools since Tuesday, and then I got a migraine on Friday morning. And the first thing I noticed when I started the diet in November, was my bowels cleared up. I was just bragging the other day I hadn't had a migraine since December 5th, and that was a miracle... -
ARCHIVED Depressing Teeth Decay Problem

Actually it is not only osteoporosis but other things we eat, like sugar. My goats, who never floss or brush their teeth, have sound teeth. They are not very clean teeth but they have perfect teeth otherwise. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results Are Back
hayley3 replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Did he say IBS? That's what they say I have. I swear, it amazes me when they say you don't have something because of testing, when I don't think they really know the whole spectrum of the disease. For instance, I was tested for the HLA-B27 gene because it is suppose to indicate spondylitis which is associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Reactive... -

I agree Nancy, that they are contracting due to pain. Just like if you burnt yourself, you'd pull back, so do they. And thanks Ali, it's not boring. I sometimes need to hear the same thing over and over, before it sinks in. I've always believed that sugar can depress your immune system. It makes so much sense, esp. because we eat so much of it. There... -
ARCHIVED How Long For Results?
hayley3 replied to sissyjane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Each clinic is different. It depends on how far away they are from the lab, and whether they have to send it to a different town, etc. I live in a very, rural town and depending on the test, it can take a week or 3 days to get the results back. -
ARCHIVED How To Pick A Fresh / Good Coconut?
hayley3 replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought one coconut and when I opened it, it was rotten. So then I read to check for a water sound and to check for heaviness. I did both, but if you don't know how heavy it's supposed to be, they all feel heavy. When I opened the second one, it wasn't rotten, but had mold on the brown skin, and it smelled like some kind of chemical. I wish I could... -
ARCHIVED I Found The Best Flour Blend!
hayley3 replied to LoriG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't say there was anything sinister about it larrymac. My whole point is that the ingredients are a "pretty, simple, basic flour blend" and they are charging an outrageous amount for it. Normally cost per unit is based on a variety of factors, such as overhead, labor, profit margin, and costs of goods received. Supply and demand, increases or decreases... -

I think it's sad that they are taking advantage of people because the cost is outrageous. $19.00 for a 5 lb bag! -

No, I didn't see your response. I'm soooo confused. I'm back and forth, back and forth. I have a lot to ponder....... -
ARCHIVED Ribbon-like Stools From Colon Spasms Or Pellet Stool
hayley3 replied to hayley3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Funny thing, is I went off gluten and ate some cheese sticks at White Castle for 2 days in a row and then I had a biscuit the 3rd day, but I was also eating Breyer's Ice Cream. I think one of those two has caused my intestinal distress. Now I just need to figure out which one did it. Since no one here has those symptoms, I feel like that's a big clue that... -
ARCHIVED Ribbon-like Stools From Colon Spasms Or Pellet Stool
hayley3 replied to hayley3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I figured that. I've always been a medical misfit. I think it would be a waste of my time to do the enterolab. I'm also not sure I trust them enough to blow $99.00 which is a lot for an unemployed sick person. -
ARCHIVED Depressing Teeth Decay Problem
hayley3 replied to Alternative mama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was wondering about this, and I wondered about the antibiotics. I know that alot of us have our gallbladder removed and of course you have to have antibiotics then. I read somewhere that the pancreas starts to digest the gluten and then the remaining gluten proteins are digested by some bacteria and that's where the celiac system fails. Wish I had bookmarked... -
ARCHIVED Ribbon-like Stools From Colon Spasms Or Pellet Stool

This symptom and the feeling of not being able to evacuate is why the doctor said I have IBS. I feel like this is my "diarrhea" although it's not diarrhea actually, but looser than normal, and that's why it's flat-like. Otherwise I have clumpy and sometimes pellet stools. When my stomach hurts, I have the flat stool. After it's over, I go back to normal... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Not Starting Until Mid 40's?
hayley3 replied to hayley3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Loco Ladi, I know that doctors nowadays are not real smart but you would figure they would know the basics. Ursa Major, I think I'm gonna try the $99 test and see what I get. The doctor tested my daughter with an IGA and IGG test and they both came back negative. She has similar symptoms to mine. Her doctor also said the thing about the constipation... -
The page has changed and you have to click on the link to the right that says, "Big Idea Bake Off".

ARCHIVED Celiac Not Starting Until Mid 40's?
hayley3 replied to hayley3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you Nora! Ursa Major, Thanks! I really thought I had celiac, but then I remembered the endoscopy and my calcium levels were normal too. I didn't know that about the endoscopy. My actual list of symptoms (I just found it) also includes colon polyps and sacroilitiis, which is what made me pretty sure I had celiac in the first place. I just... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Not Starting Until Mid 40's?
hayley3 replied to hayley3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's not the doctor's approval I'm after, but trying to figure out if my other problems, such as thyroid, dry eye, osteoporosis, etc, are just coincidences or if something is being missed. Without a dx, it really is too easy to cheat also. IMO I did go gluten free starting in November and I fell off the diet about 5 days ago. I really didn't notice... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Not Starting Until Mid 40's?
hayley3 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not dx'd. I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy last year and there was no signs of anything. Completely normal. They even gave me a picture. I just read that when they do the endoscopy they look for signs of celiac and if they find anything, that is when they do the biopsies. My GERD and bloating symptoms started after my hysterectomy at age 42... -
ARCHIVED Depressing Teeth Decay Problem
hayley3 replied to Alternative mama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me too! I just got some of mine fixed temporarily. I need about 4 crowns, minimum. I have osteoporosis and a vitamin D deficiency. I was hoping the vitamin D would help with the teeth. It is so embarrassing to go to the dentist because you feel like a failure at dental hygiene, even though it's not your fault. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Kinda Cranky
hayley3 replied to TipTip's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm no expert, but it's understandable to be angry. And it's hard to see the positive side of something when it just changed your whole lifestyle and you had no say in it. Nobody really understands except for someone who's been thru it. I was actually angrier before I started the diet. I really hated the way I acted, but it was like I had no control... -
I thought the same thing at first, but Martha is a business woman. She's gonna go where the market is, and there is definitely a market for a food magazine for allergies, etc.

ARCHIVED Flour Mix Using Buckwheat - What's Yours?
hayley3 replied to ArtGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a recipe, somewhere, that you add cinnamon, honey, and maybe nuts to toasted buckwheat to make a granola type cereal. I loved it. Toasted buckwheat reminds me of rice crispies. Thanks, I'll have to give the buckwheat noodles a try. -
What is the current percentage? I voted this morning but we were still way ahead.
