  1. Another of the possibilities I saw was "post-herpatic" nerve pain from shingles. Gosh, I just don't know-- part of me kind of doubts that. Somebody else thought it could be a trapped nerve. And I do think it must have to do with nerves somehow. Yet mine doesn't feel that serious- just annoying really. It is definitely an internal pain (under the...
  2. From time to time I get this and I wonder if it is related to celiac disease. Does anybudy know? There is no mark or rash on the skin at all and it lasts for a few days (2-4 days). It feels like a sunburn, and it is super sensitive (to, say, clothes rubbing against it.) The slightest touch feels like sandpaper. It happens maybe 2-3 times per year...
  3. I thought about your question over night and the more I thought about it, the madder I got at your doctor. He is asking you for FOUR proofs. Why? 1. The bloodwork is enough by itself 2. The DH is enough by itself 3. The positive response to the diet is enough by itself What possible justification could there be for an intestinal biopsy now? I...
  4. I too had positive bloodwork and dh. I also had a negative biopsy 8 years or so before the dh showed up. I was told the dh is a definitive diagnosis of celiac. They called it "celiac of the skin." The biopsy is jsut to make old fashioned doctors happy. The DH alone is your diagnosis. And more progressive doctors will look at your bloodwork results...
  5. Glutino (the great Canadian company) makes several gluten-free broths in little white plastic bottles. Also, you can order "better than bullion" from Amazon.
  6. I thought of something else-- try going to a pharmacy. They might keep the gluten free food there. Plus, they can give you a probiotic to help with the candida issues. Try explaining your dilemma and perhaps they can help.
  7. Jason-- I found this hotel in Cannes: Open Original Shared Link The person who rated it said they could do a gluten free breakfast. The address is there. Perhaps they can help you out. Hit the grocery stores today if you can. Good luck. Lisa
  8. Check out 100% pure-- it may be mopre liquid than you are used to. Also, there is always carmex. But carmex is a petroleum base. Still, it is the best one out there for me. Good luck!
  9. I think so-- it is for US products only. But if the products are imported from the US it should hold.
  10. Hi Susan. All wrigleys products are safe, including the candy. Tylenol (the actual brand, not store brand) is safe. So is Bayer aspirin. Glide is safe too, but I use the regular one. For lunchmeats and hotdogs, you must read the label or call companies. Many are safe. Non-fat milk is safe too. The only one I edon't know about is ensure...
  11. It ocurred to me this list might be useful for some folks-- I was after the pickles myself. August 11, 2009 Dear Lisa, Thank you for your interest in Heinz Products. We certainly understand how difficult it can be to find foods that meet the requirements of a restricted diet. As you requested, the following is a listing of all of our products...
  12. Try the 100% pure line. They might surprise you. They have bright reds.
  13. Wowie-- that is quite a rection you get there. My first thought is that since it is respiratory (and therefore potentially life threatening) I would go to a doctor about that aspect of it (and not for a celiac diagnosis) for a couple of reasons. First of all, you have it documented so that if you are, say, walking through a grocery store and you...
  14. Pat-- if you are sick and going gluten free helped you, you must consider yourself a celiac. "Low probability" is probably referring to the 2% study. But that is only one study. I imagine that if all celiacs everywhere were to get tested, the perceptions of "low probability" would have to revised upwards. And many more genes would have to be considered...
  15. There are people here who know lots more than I, but I have one dq7 and I am a diagnosed celiac. If you have the dq7 and you are sick, that's all you really need to know. I don't know very much about alpha and beta parts of genes, but one of the dq7 genes (the 505) is considered by many here to be "half a celiac gene." Of course, having the gene doesn...
  16. Some safe lipglosses include: Burt's bees, chanel, NARS , Shisheido and 100% pure. Be extremely careful with lipsticks and glosses. Niether wheat germ oil nor the protein (why would you put gluten on your hair?) are safe. Think about how many times you get hair in your mouth or food or snarf in the water when you shower. As for hair finishing products...
  17. Sorry to tell you this twe, but your doctor is just flat out wrong. The truth is that people with celiac disease need to be as gluten free. Everytime you eat some, you are seriously damaging your health. If you read more of the posts on this board, you will understand why this is so. To continue eating gluten will actually increase your odds of premature...
  18. Interesting thread. On my dad's side (going back to the 15th century) German-- Westphalia, but also part Pomeranian (which now belongs to Poland.) On my mom's side Polish (but from areas that could have been Austria or the present Ukraine) and Scotch-Irish. I have been told this last designation is a specific groups of immigrants who originated in Scotland...
  19. It could also have been pure wheat gluten. This is called "fu" in Japanese and sometimes it is also called seitan. And of course, as any christian will tell you, seitan is evil!
  20. I used to have this problem too. I would go to the doctor and take the "pink pill" and it would go away, only to come right back. This went on for over a miserable year. Mine tested positive for both yeast and bacteria. They told my my immune system was compromised and tested me for diabetes. Of course at the time they didn't know it was really celiac...
  21. A few months back I heard an interview with Tich Nhat Hahn. One question was
  22. I was diagnosed and went gluten free 21 months ago today, and I realized I have turned some kind of corner. So I thought I would write this for the people who ask
  23. For tiles, here is what you need to do: Screw down concrete backer board over the plywood (assuming it is in good shape.) Then you can lay any kind of tile you want onto that using thinset. The grout will not crack this way but if you put it directly onto the plywood then it will happen. One cool thing you might consider is to lay heated pads under...
  24. I am CF too. I have read on a few websites now that 50% of celics cannot tolerate Casein either-- something to do with its similarity to the gluten protein, I think. C is like G in the sense that if you put it in something like a cake, it will still be there. Of course it will! But there is hope. I have talked to quite a few celiacs and it turns...
  25. Too bad they don't make gutenerette patches like they do for cigarettes! If I were you, I would go out and buy the things you crave in a gluten-free version. Get yourself some glutino or schar's crackers or even almond thins from blue diamond. Try the Mary's gon crackers too. and get yourself some gluten-free bagels (they do exist). You might have...
