  1. Oh, I like Dave's Garden. This site is amazing because it has forums for individual classes of plants, a bug ID, and plant ID, plant files (with photos) and all sort of other features. There are beginner's forums too where people will answer your questions about problems and they are generally pretty fast. Open Original Shared Link I find it is very...
  2. Wow-- mine were sometimes in conjunction with a drop in pressure before a storm or hormones. Sadly, I could not do the Topamax because of other allergies. This is so interesting. But since going gluten-free, these too are gone. Perhaps there are multiple factors going on with these?
  3. TK-- I find it interesting that you mention this because the ONLY thing that would help me was taking a couple of benadryl. I used to think it was because it made me sleep. but maybe histamines are involved somehow. Huh.
  4. Thank you FMcGee! I will be very curious to find out when your doctor says
  5. Thanks Psawyer-- you always do your very best to be helpful and answer the question. I used to get them frequently-- so bad I was on my knees and rocking. I was missing work because of them and they were getting worse and worse. Now they are gone. But I recently got glutened and I got the beginning s of one again and I started to wonder what causes...
  6. Just out of curiosity, does anybody know what the mechanism is that causes migrains from gluten? Is it a vitamin deficiency? Or is it a nerve thing? Or maybe something else?
  7. Thanks Ravenwoodglass! My next stop will be Amazon to check out this book. When I started this thread I had visions of natural home-made concoctions like camomile hair rinse, raspberry exfoliating scrubs or citric acid bath bombs. This book looks promising. Sometimes when you get glutened or have a stressful day, a little self-pampering can...
  8. If you look at the original post, you will see that it is from a person who is requesting a list of gluten-free products to try in the hopes that she will feel better. This is a reasonable request. It seems to me that this person has made an informed decision to try going gluten free in all areas of her life. She was not asking for anybody to weigh in...
  9. Another idea you might try (but it is a lot of trouble to go to) is to make your own potato chips. If you have a mandoline, you can slice them really thin and then use a deep fryer to get a kind of chip. They are not the same crispy light things that come in a bag, but at least you don't have to worry about gluten. You can spice them too or even use...
  10. Well, angelfoods are tempramental and there are lots of things that can go wrong besides the flours. I suspect that there are some "ideal" uses for each kind of flour and that it will take more experimentation. Perhaps one is better for bread or breading and another is better for tempura, etc.
  11. Here are some non-supermarket brands to try (all but burt's bees) available from Sephora, the Skin store or otherwise online: Acne facewash: korres, caudalie, ecco bella, 100% pure, LUSH (coal face and fresh pharma esp,) burt's bees, sundari-- ditto these for moisturizers Volume shampoo and conditioner: phyto, Lush (big), rene furterer, korres (conditioner...
  12. I have tried both and Jules Nearly normal. As a test standard I made an angel food cake using all three. The domata wins hands down. The nearly normal will give you a nice texture, but I found it was heavier and kept the moisture-- in other words, my cake was a bit on the heavy wet side. If you look, you will see it also has expandex which is a...
  13. Warning: the new chex are still in "transition" which means that in some places (like here!) the new ones are mixed with old ones on the grocery shelves. I recently bought a box of the honey nut kind and was eating them only to discover to my horror that I had accidentally bought a box of the old ones with the barley malt extract. The other two boxes...
  14. Oh no, you are not crazy at all-- I also have trouble eating most lettuces and raw spinach. I suspect it is because the intestines are not quite what they should be yet. I can eat spinach boiled (I suspect the cooking partially digests it) and I can tolerate boston lettuce (also called butter lettuce in some places) in small quantities. I usually get...
  15. Hi MKAT! I see that you tried to answer my post. The quote feature is a little tricky and takes some time to figure out. But if you just hit "reply" and type in the box and then hit "post", you should be okay. Right now, nobody can see what you wanted to say. Don't worry and don't give up-- this happens a lot around here. I would add that, like...
  16. Hi MKAT! Boy, does your story sound familiar! Not only was I diagnosed with IBS-D for over 23 years, but I also had my gallbladder out at 38. I know the pain you are talking about. I once spent four days lying on my left side on the floor by the bathroom. My "IBS" got much worse and I had exceptionally bad wracking and incapacitating multiple bouts...
  17. What are your favorite homemade treatments for hair, face, nails, feet.... etc. Any ideas for making a spa at home to destress and beautify?
  18. Oh yes! If only doctors would look at it that way instead! How many more people could be saved? In the immortal words of Momma Goose, "thump.... thump.... thump!" Of course, she was talking about french fries at the time. But this is an even bigger head-banger. And to make matters even worse, with IBS they tell you, "Oh, don't worry about it. Studies...
  19. I was mis-diagnosed with IBS for 23+ years. Do not be quick to exclude celiac as a possibility. I hate the diagnosis of IBS because you are repeatedly told "there is nothing you can do about it." Furthermore, once you get stuck with that diagnosis, doctors are not so willing to do the celiac tests. Maybe that will change now. The only surprise...
  20. Or you are just allergic to pistachios. I found out I am. It is not unheard of to discover other sensitivities once you are gluten-free. Good luck!
  21. Oh! I forgot coconut milk/cream. You can sweeten that with honey and eat it with fruit. Sprnikle some nuts of there or a nice mint leaf. You can also make a kind of ice milk out of it. Make mix in some fresh orange juice and freeze. Then there are sorbets. If you boil a little water and honey and add fruit juices (or mint or basil or whatever floats...
  22. Angie, I am in pretty much the same boat you are. Here are a few things that help me. Can you have almond milk? If so, that might satisfy some of the creamy cravings. Nuts have saved me-- I love the flavored almonds and cashews. That also helps and they seem to be very important. You can make cashew butter or even try some sunbutter (made from...
  23. Iiiit's heeere! Less than 20 miles from the large university where I teach-- a confirmed case. Students are quite worried. Just in time for finals week! Well... I certainly hope Gemini et al.are correct. I agree about the media. I call the local news channels "horror mongers"-- they tend to get pretty excited around here about things...
  24. Oh doodle, I am so sorry this happened to you. I know you were trying really hard to undertake the new business the best and most respectful way possible. You really did your homework. I bet you are hopping mad. I would be :-( Yes, I think if I were in your shoes, I would put a special label on that batch of product to explain what happened--...
  25. Thanks Lisa! I editeed the text and attempted to send he form. Sadly my representative does not accept emails. Sigh. But this is a fabulous idea. Lisa
