ARCHIVED Mom Thinks I Was Cursed By The Devil...lol! RantWonka replied to Bravie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I was talking about this with a friend of mine. She had the same experience when she was young. Her mother still resents her and thinks of her as a fallen woman. She has been with the same man since she was 18, she is now 53. She says get out. It will never be easier. Her mom refuses to believe in her celiac disease and refuses to be tested herself. She...

ARCHIVED  How Often Does Cross Contamentation (sp) Happen In Grocery Stores.?Wonka replied to Ivanna44's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I came across this very thing this week. I did email the store. Started with what I like about the store and then told them my concern for how they have their gluten and non gluten flours together. It turns out that they bag their own flours, both in the same place so these aren't flours I can safely buy. It was good information to know. I will have...

ARCHIVED It's A Pain, But Not The End Of The World...Wonka replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It would never have occurred to me to make comments to a stranger about their appearance. It's just rude.

ARCHIVED Glue Bricks (i Mean Bread)Wonka replied to SpikeMoore's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I made this bread yesterday and it was really good. It turned out nice and light and fluffy, like regular bread. Gluten-Free Flax Bread Recipe My own recipe, comes out fluffy and nice and need not be frozen. Healthy and full of nutrition, as opposed to rice flour based breads. Can be vegan* This was the foundation recipe of my cookbook - after all of...

ARCHIVED What The Best Way For Baking Corn Flour In HomeWonka replied to almosly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I use corn flour to lighten up cornbread/muffins. Find a recipe, replace some of the cornmeal with corn flour. In muffins I like to add corn kernels, chopped red peppers (this makes them really yummy) and sometimes bacon (and the grease for some of the fat in the recipe).

I totally agree with your suggestion. If they can't get the venue changed they should still go , eat first and clearly be there with no food to eat. MIL need to eat a wee bit of crow.

ARCHIVED Defensive DoctorWonka replied to Wonka's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I better write that date down. My brain has been so foggy lately( between celiac, fibromyalgia and being perimenapausal I've had quite the ride lately. lol). I'm going to try really hard to remember to come.

ARCHIVED Glue Bricks (i Mean Bread)Wonka replied to SpikeMoore's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips It may have been doughy inside because it needed to bake longer. Breads can vary in baking time just like other baked goods. A good rule of thumb is to use a wooden pick to check for doneness, if it comes out with gooey dough sticking to it then it's not ready to come out. If the loaf is browning too much but is not done yet just tent it with some tinfoil...

I made a nice dish with quinoa the other day. I added chopped dried mango, toasted pinenuts and shallots that had been sauted in a mix of butter and olive oil. I've done these same additions to rice too.

ARCHIVED Glue Bricks (i Mean Bread)Wonka replied to SpikeMoore's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Are you expecting the dough to look like a regular bread dough? Gluten free bread dough looks more like a quick bread dough, very wet and not something you can knead. This isn't the most attractive bread but has nice flavour, just don't cut it until it is completely cooled. TAPIOCA BREAD 1 3/4 cups warm water 2/3 cup instant milk powder 3 large eggs...

Do you still bake gluten items for yourself? I found that I was glutening myself just having regular gluten flour in the house. The stuff gets in the air and I ended up ingesting it. I scrubbed out all my cupboards and designated one to the gluten items (I didn't want the crumbs falling onto the glutenfree items). I also replaced cutting boards, toaster...

ARCHIVED It's A Pain, But Not The End Of The World...Wonka replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease There are a significant number of people in the world who speak first, engage brain second. Not the best order in my opinion. lol

ARCHIVED It's A Pain, But Not The End Of The World...Wonka replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I hear you. I actually heard someone mumble about how there were too many children in the world and that I should have thought of that (I have triplets). I put it down to ignorance and moved on(for me it was 3 or none). When women would say I'm glad it's you and not me. I would whole heartedly agree with them and tell them that I was delighted that my children...
