  1. Hi Dave, Nope, I always avoided the green bananas and let them sit until they get properly ripe. But I'll try one now that you suggested it. I'll have to pass on the coconut drink since coconut and I don't get along well anymore. Maybe I'll try it sometime just to see what happens. My sister got some bad avocados at a store once and we took them...
  2. Right, failing the tests doesn't mean you don't have celiac disease. It may just mean the tests aren't very good. There is also NCGI (non-celiac gluten intolerance) which there are no tests for right now. So you are on your own if you have that condition, doctors can't test for it.
  3. You might have an H.Pylori infection going on. You could get a test for it and try some natural remedies. Gluten CC is a possibility too, and also other food intolerances might be the problem. Do you eat a little protein with every meal, and especially before bed? I checked on the wrist watch glucose monitors once and the were about $1500 without insurance...
  4. HI, It sounds lie you could be one of us. Do get all the testing done that you want before going gluten-free. The tests will not work if you have stoped eating gluten before hand. Some starting the gluten-free diet tips for the first 6 months: Get tested before starting the gluten-free diet. Don't eat in restaurants Eat only whole foods...
  5. HI, The testing involves eating gluten for a period of time and then testing for antibodies and maybe an endoscopy. Your doctor will need to tell how you how long the challenge needs to be and how much gluten you would need to eat each day. There is always a chance of false negatives with the testing even after a challenge.
  6. Most nuts are ok to eat. You can get Food Should Taste Good brand chips that are gluten-free in stores. Mission brand corn tortillas are good as wraps with whatever filling you like. Snyders makes a gluten-free pretzal. Don't try searching for snack ideas on here or you will spend the next days or 2 reading all the hits! We do snack it seems. You...
  7. HI Rainb gluten-free dog food is better for your dog, if you can find it. The thing is dogs lick their fur and then you pet them and get gluten on your hands. Plus they lick your skin etc. Yes, small amounts like this could make you sick if they get into your mouth somehow. Some people are more sensitive than others, and some have dermatitis herpetiformis...
  8. Hi U853, That's great, now you know what the problem is and how to fix it! Well, at least you have an idea how to fix it. Minimal damage is good, but it is still celiac disease and needs to be treated as such. It's good the diagnosed it early6 before y6ou developed additional problems. I know you are traveling a lot but maybe you can find hotel rooms...
  9. Wow Dave, I am sorry you didn't like the avocado. Did you get a bad one? They should be brown skin and green inner layer and yellow inside. Sometimes the stores leave them too long and they turn brown inside. They have enzymes in them that break them down pretty quickly . That's why they put lemon juice in the guacamole to retard the browning. I sometimes...
  10. Salads are not a bad option. You can also take your own food to a restarant sometimes. I take lara bars, and fruit like oranges or bananas and get a salad. Vegetable sides are usually ok too.
  11. Hi, Here is a link to the Ask a patient site for reviews of Nortypaline. Might be interesting or not. Seems like a mixed bag of reactions. Which is typical really. Open Original Shared Link Your doctor wanted to do H. Pylori testing. Was it positive? Have you verified the Nortrypiline is gluten-free? It is reasonable to feel depressed...
  12. I saw one of those show it's made shows or some such a few years ago on the Mission tortillas. They had four dedicated lines for them a that time, to keep up with production demands. Four lines of just corn tortillas, with a machine stomping them out and then packing them by hand. They had ladies grabbing big stacks and stuffing them in the bags then...
  13. Some of the members with DH say that their DH flares when they get gluten and iodine together. So they follow a low iodine diet when their DH is flaring. It could be you have some gluten in your diet and don;t realize. Check everything again and re-verify anything that you checked before. Ingredients can change. Also check you shampoo and skin lotions...
  14. Hi, I forgot to add some brand names. Here are a couple ice cream replacements that may work for him. Open Original Shared LinkDOpen Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  15. Dairy and soy are possible problems, and also just adjusting to the gluten-free diet. Try some of the tips below to see if they help. It is not usually a one trip to better health on the gluten-free diet, it often involves lots of dips and valleys with a high spot here and there. An elimination diet might help but I wouldn't try that until you have been...
  16. Hi JJohn, I had fainting spells also, even after going gluten-free. For me it cleared up when I stopped eating soy. I think the medical types call it syncope. I had an encephalogram done and of course they found nothing. Well, there was a little bit of brain in my head but nothing to explain the syncope. No mention of a possible diet cause. The...
  17. Well, he should stop in here and do some reading. It can be hard to eliminate all the sources of gluten in your diet. It is present in many, many processed foods and not always obvious. If you do go gluten-free it will probalby help him,. Kissing is not a safe activity if you haven't brushed and gargled after eating gluten. Shampoos and vitamins and meds...
  18. Some other things you could try are Food Should Taste Good sweet potato chips or olive chips. Once you have been on the gluten-free and whole food diet a while and gotten better, you can try adding some processed foods back in. Look for foods that have minimal ingredients and no chemicals. Mission brand is good. There is also a new Rudi's brand tortilla...
  19. Hi Eclara, As you have found out, the celiac testing is not 100% reliable. There are false negatives sometimes. So it makes sense to go ahead and try a strict gluten-free diet for 6 months or so regardless of what the tests say. Your symptoms are severe enough to lead to much worse complications if you don't do something to change your health for...
  20. Very humid here yesterday too, a little better today tho. Crayon, glass making is a good winter time activity eh? I get into a little heat with my encaustics but nothing like the glass makers. Ouch! Boy Loey, you have gradeated to the big time eh, oxycontin. Now you will be everybody's friend!
  21. Hi A, Yes, your symptoms do sound like celiac disease. There are 2 kinds of testing, the blood antibody tests are usually done first, and then an endoscopy is scheduled. It is your choice if you want to do medical testing in either case. But the blood antibodies are a pretty simple thing, just a blood draw and off they go to a lab. Since neither the...
  22. Hi Bossley, A few things I can suggest that might help. Try taking some Betaine HCL with pepsin when you eat your meals. It is stomach acid in a pill and can help to digest your food if you are low on stomach acid, as many are. Stomach acid decreases naturally as we age, just like thyroid hormone production and sex hormones do. I suggest you also...
  23. Hi , Really all your first degree relatives should be tested for celiac. The genes for celiac are hereditary so any family could have it. I think you have been gluten-free on and off right? So your tests have a good chance of being negative. But at least they are a baseline to compare tests with later, say in 6 months or so. You are right, going...
  24. I think that's a lot of reading...
  25. Hi Erin, I am sorry you aren't feeling well again. Your experience is not unusual though as far as feeling better and then feeling worse again. The gluten-free diet doesn't get rid of celiac disease. It does give the body a chance to rest from the attack and heal. The immune system can react to very small amounts of gluten, and the reaction can last...
