  1. Hey Razzle, You said earlier you were wondering about good doctors. You can check on the CSA web site for a chapter near you. They may have a local group that could suggest doctors. Open Original Shared Link
  2. Welcome Nicole, it's good to have you here! Here are some threads that might help you out. FAQ Celiac com https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/forum-7/announcement-3-frequently-asked-questions-about-celiac-disease/ Newbie Info 101 What's For Breakfast Today? What Did You Have For Lunch Today? What Are You Cooking Tonight...
  3. Waiting 3 to 6 months is good. You might want to try carob powder as an alternative to chocolate.
  4. When you are new to the diet there is more than just healing going on. Your gut has lots of bacteria that help it digest and process foods. Those bacteria can get of balance when their food changes. That's why many people recommend probiotics at first. You need to get a new gut flora balance established. Sugar and starches can cause bacteria to multiply...
  5. Yep, it's a real good question for the GI. You don't have to have an endoscopy if you don't want. You can just go gluten-free and stay that way. The diet doesn't require a celiac diagnosis. And there is no treatment for celiac right now except the gluten-free diet anyway. Even if your testing came back negative, you should try the gluten-free diet for...
  6. Here is a search on snack ideas at celiac.com. There are a lot of threads about snack ideas. Guacamole and sweet potato chips are a nice snack IMHO. Or peanuts. It is very important to get enough protein when you are healing. Your body needs protein to re-build it's cells. Making the job of healing harder for your body isn't a great idea. If you...
  7. Welcome Howard, I am glad you found us! You know that's not the only thing you all spell funny though. Actually I think the forum spell checker doesn't like either the US or the English spelling. Colour me confused. Good to see another artist join the ranks too.
  8. Hmm, do your parents know your doctor said you might be gluten intolerant? That is important information for them to have. The medical knowledge about gluten intolerance or NCGI ( non-celiac gluten intolerance) is limited right now. There hasn't been much study of it so far. There was a study showing that it does exist, but not much of anything else has...
  9. Hi Victoria, Don't assume your are just like everybody else. When they say 20 ppm is safe for most celiacs, that is not the same as all saying all celiacs. You could react to smaller amounts. Many people do. The study doesn't prove the lowest amount a specific person can react too. Some of us have no symptoms from eating gluten at all (silent celiac...
  10. I didn't get along well with the cinnamon Chex but the corn Chex work fine for me.
  11. Ok, I ain't got much. Let's see, salt and pepper on cantaloupe is good. Don't use too much pepper or you'll get all sneezy. Then you have salt and pepper and green stuff on your cantaloupe. Mashed potatoes on the farm always had the peas and corn mixed in and the gravy in a well in the center. Potato salad sandwiches are good. Oatmeal with olive...
  12. Hi ICM, Welcome to the site! You sure picked a popular question for this thread! I'm sure you got the idea by now that people are against the whole cheat a little thinking of your doctors. There is a reason for that, or maybe quite a few actually. Here is a post from a few years ago that seems relevant. My younger brother had a colostomy...
  13. Hi Fanner, Welcome to the site! If you are already gluten free it is too late to be tested for celiac disease. Unless you do a 3 month gluten challenge first and then you may have enough damage show up to be diagnosed. If you have NCGI ( non- celiac gluten intolerance ) though they are no tests for that currently. Either way, if you feel better off...
  14. Well, now I guess we can tell one person who hasn't tried the secret user name changing ritual! ..........................................................................................................................
  15. These mods are so mean sometimes. I can't believe nobody told you the easy way. Dance the watusi 3 times around a May-pole and clap your hands 10 times. Then do a polka and sing Happy Birthday (newusername). Wala! This post may not make sense in the future if you change your name to something not having to do with dancing of course. But for today...
  16. Fatigue is definitely a common complaint with celiac. I agree, it doesn't go away over night. Nine months would be more like it IMHO. But people are different and some get better much faster. Others don't If your tests are negative that doesn't mean you don't have celiac. If they are positive it does mean you have celiac. If they are negative you...

    ARCHIVED New Ally

Well, he may even like it. If he likes meat there is plenty of opportunity to eat the dead animals on a gluten-free diet. Dead cow, dead pig, dead chicken etc. Barbecue galore and it's summer (here) and he may like to do a lot of barbecuing. Don't forget toe check out the gluten-free beers too. Good for those hot summer days, if you can have them anyway...
  18. Hi Salax, My symptoms include abdominal pain, tiredness, joint pain, some bleeding. Not a great experience in the digestion department either. They be no fun at all really. And symptoms get worse the longer I eat them. So I don't.
  19. Well, maybe it is a temporary thing. I hope he comes to realize that celiac disease is not an easy thing to live with as a beginner, and that there is not much of anywhere else to get good advice about adapting to the gluten-free lifestyle. As we all know, most doctors are happy to tell you "guess what you have an autoimmune disease, don't eat gluten, go...
  20. OK, advice then. Cut the labels off all the packages and tape them in a note pad. Look them over and write down all the common ingredients of the ones that make you sick. One or more of those common ingredients is affecting your digestion. You can stop all the baked goods for a few weeks. Then trial the common ingredients one at a time for 3 days running...

    ARCHIVED Opinions?

Well, the line in the article that claims they are testing for safety is a link to a site selling the grain. "Open Original Shared Link" Selling grain doesn't equal medical testing in my book.
  22. Ok, more stuff to read. Making big batches of food and freezing small portionhs on the weekend can save you lots of time. Some starting the gluten-free diet tips for the first 6 months: Get tested before starting the gluten-free diet. Don't eat in restaurants Eat only whole foods not processed foods. Eat only food you cook yourself, think...
  23. HI Atroposian, Welcome to the forum! The pain you describe could be an ulcer or something else. I suggest you see a doctor about it. They do have tests now for the H. Pylori bacteria, which causes most ulcers. It's worth getting tested so you know if that is the cause.
  24. Hi Vince, welcome to the forum! I think H.Pylori is a problem for celiacs sometimes. I don't think it is the cause though. It seems to me it is more likely to occur when a person's digestive system is in bad shape already. And with celiac that can be fairly often. I've had some success with treating it by avoiding alcohol and also taking mastic gum...
  25. Welcome to the forum BJPN. Getting it out fast does sound like a good thing!
