  1. Sounds like they are saying leaky gut doesn't go away on the gluten-free diet. Bummer.
  2. Sounds like gall bladder problems to me. People with gallbladder problems often have trouble digesting fats. And people with celiac seem to have gallbladder problems sometimes. Might be something to check into.
  3. You will probably feel better without any processed foods for now. But coffee on cereal? Eww! There are alternative milks available in many stores. Almond milk or Hemp milk are usually sold in boxes on the store shelves, not refrigerated. There are also soy milks but I wouldn't use them if I were you. Most mayo has soy in it, there are only a few...
  4. I just wanted to mention possible problems with peppermint. Peppermint relaxes the GI tract muscles, so if you take it every day it could contribute to GERD by letting acid into the esophagus. So it is not something you should take every day but only when you need it. It does help get gas out of the stomach though.
  5. Hi Brookvale, Yes celiac can cause pain. You can also get pain from complications, like gastritis or gall bladder issues, which are fairly commonly reported here. One thing that might be hurting you is the acid blockers. Stomach acid is very important in sanitizing the food we eat. Without adequate stomach acid it is easier for nasty bacteria to...
  6. Hi Josh, well, here's some encouragment, you aren't dead yet! Vitamins are good things to check. I am taking some extra Vit D now myself. Another thing to consider is possible additional food intolerances. Sometimes we collect them as we go along. Thyroid is another possibility. Too much iron for men is a thing to watch out for I suppose...
  7. You are supposed to give away the first 10 or so loaves of gluten-free bread. That is if you can find anyone wiling to take them! The squirrels and birds are pretty god critics. If they will eat it then it might be human food too. Congrats on reaching day 3! Every day after that gets harder or easier, I can't remember which it is they say. Well...
  8. Dumb. and fairly new to gluten-free at the time. I didn't want to disappoint my relates, which is dumb to the extreme. relates are always the least likely people you will impress in any way. Except in dumbness! I got a ham steak and some fired potatoes. Got slighty sick afterwards so it wasn't a great idea. Yep. I thot asking...
  9. I went to visit relates in another state and we decided to eat at an IHOP (international house of pancakes). Just for the heck of it I asked the waiter if they had any gluten-free pancakes or waffles. The waiter was a young feller and he didn't know the answer so he had to check with the big brains in back. It took a little while but he eventually came...
  10. I don't drink wine any more. Or eat grapes or anything with grape juice in it. I had reactions to wines and used to think it was sulfites or gluten causing them. But I also have reactions to plain old grapes now or things made with grapes. So just saying there can be other factors at play besides gluten. The grapes themselves can cause a problem.
  11. Keep reading on this site, and you will pick up a lot of tips that can help. The way to go is simple foods made at home by yourself. Avoid processed foods and go with whole foods instead. If you pick up a package of "food" and it has more than 3 ingredients put it back. Especially if you can't pronounce the ingredient names or figure out which plant,...
  12. I had pretty severe hay fever for many years until I went gluten free. Then my hay fever symptoms practically disappeared after going gluten-free. The reason I say that is the hayfever reactions are called IgE reactions. IgE reactions (hay fever etc) are what are thought of as allergies. So, it doesn't seem like there should be a relation to celiac disease...
  13. That story reminds me of the Chinese pet food companies that put melamine in the food to increase the protein value on tests. Killed a lot of pets. Then there was a story about toothpaste from China killing kids too.
  14. Hi UC, I am sorry to hear you are having problems. There are other possibilities besides Menier's though right? You may have low B-12 or other vitamin levels from malabsorption. That can cause nerve damage. Some of that might correct given enough time gluten-free, so that your intestine can heal and start absorbing nutrients correctly. Have you read...
  15. Hi LLT,

I went on the gluten-free diet at the beggining of Dec 2007 and joined this site that month. I had symptoms for 10 years before that though. Well actually more like 20 years but they got worse over time.

I took me quite a while to learn the ropes of the gluten-free diet. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. Fun times! :-)

  16. how long have you had celiac (or just been gluten-free?) sry if i do not reply for a while, my access 2 the computer is limited n i usually choose 2 spend my time on YouTube ;)

  17. 4) b 5) a Although I went to a very well known celiac doctor it was 4 months after I started the gluten-free diet. So my testing was negative. But a doctor didn't figure it out for me, my sister did. One of the doctors I went to said I was fine, and had the best HDL/LDL cholesterol scores they had seen. Probably because I wasn't absorbing fats due...
  18. And negative biopsy or not, she should still try the gluten-free diet. The tests are not 100% reliable.
  19. The endoscopy should take several samples, I think they say 5 to 7 now. They can only reach the first section of the small intestine for samples, that leaves most of the 22 feet of small intestine untested. So you could have damage just around the bend as it were, and they wouldn't see it. An elimination diet is a good idea, if you are not going to do...
  20. Same here Snoopgirl. Gas city for me and plenty of pain to go with it.
  21. I like the sweet potato chips too. I never tried the multigrain because they have soy in them. But the oat flour would be a problem too.
  22. BG Before Grain here too. And Muffin the cat head stopped throwing up when she went gluten-free. She really likes here gluten filled cat treats and doesn't even eat the gluten-free cat treats. But when I give her the gluten treats she gets sick every time. So she no get those anymore. @ALicewa, Hi Alice, The thing to understand about celiac is...
  23. You can buy chicken breasts and cook them yourself. If you are worried about contamination get the ones with the skin on and rip it off. They are cheaper anyway. Hormel has some meats marked gluten free and so does Boar's Head. I think there is a brand called Applegate Farms that has gluten-free also.
  24. Tweren't me, but I think they are swell! Open Original Shared Link
  25. I feed the birds on my back deck in the winter time. Of course the squirrels like to help eat the seeds too. Usually everything I put out is seeds or sometimes scraps of left overs. And it disappears in an hour tops. Except soy. I put soy nuts out once and they sat there for a week. Finally they got blown away or washed away by rain. The birds and the...
