lizard00 replied to RissaRoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
yep... definitely making that one! Patty, what do you do in place of butter? Does the smart balance stuff work as well? -
ARCHIVED I Spaced Out And Ate Some Cake
lizard00 replied to susanm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Somewhere in between my second and third week I did something like that, too. I had done so much research to figure out what to eat/not eat during my elimination diet, and learned all the different ways that wheat can be called... or so I thought. Then we went out for greek food, and I got tabbouleh thinking that I was all smart... but what does tabouleh... -
ARCHIVED What Are You Reading?
lizard00 replied to mslee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's my current read. Very informative. My mom also bought gluten-free for Dummies a while back. It's a good one, especially for people that you are trying to educate. Family members, friends,etc... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible?
lizard00 replied to Tamito's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! This site is a great source of information! She is absolutely right! It's an autoimmune disease, and it stays with you. I had headaches daily for a year and a half. They were gone within a week. And thyroid problems are extremely commong among Celiacs. YES! -
ARCHIVED Einkorn?
lizard00 replied to Candy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From wikipedia: In contrast with more modern forms of wheat, there is evidence that the gliadin protein of einkorn may not be as toxic to sufferers of coeliac disease.[4] It has yet to be recommended in any gluten-free diet. IMO, not as toxic still means toxic. Thanks for posting this, I'd never heard of Einkorn before today. Always learn... -
ARCHIVED Newbie To Scd- Need Some Pointers
lizard00 replied to Gina C.'s topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hello. There are quite a few people on here who have had success with the SCD. Open Original Shared Link This particular thread is devoted to the SCD, and may give you further information/meal planning ideas. I noticed that it wasn't on the active topics for today, so thought I would let you know it's out there. Otherwise, I hope some others... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Intolerance Symptoms Besides Gi Issues
lizard00 replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
That was pretty much the way I was able to rationalize why I needed to avoid dairy and finally make the decision to do it. In Dr Green's book about celiac disease, he states the reason why it is so important to make sure even trace amounts of gluten are kept out the diet; because those trace amounts are enough to keep an immune response going, therefore never... -
ARCHIVED I Am Very Confused About Celaic Disease In General.
lizard00 replied to pandaman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi and Welcome! As the pp said, if you have pretty dramatic results with just the removal of gluten, then that's likely the culprit. However, most of us don't get off with just one food intolerance. And usually, dairy is the secondary issue. Celiac is an autoimmune disease, as you said, but the triggers are not always known in every case. For me,... -
ARCHIVED I Had My Endoscopy Yesterday
lizard00 replied to cat3883's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome I'm very glad you were able to get a diagnosis and can now begin to get better. The first few months were the hardest for me. I remember crying over pizza... But, I cannot even tell you how much better I feel now than I did one year ago. Just stick to basic foods for a while, and feel free to ask any questions. We don't grossed out easily... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Intolerance Symptoms Besides Gi Issues
lizard00 replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
No prob Things always make perfect sense in my head, but sometimes I'll go back and reread something, to which I'll think... could I have not found a better way to write that? LOL I asked my GI to tell me that eating dairy was destroying my intestines like eating gluten, so I would be motivated to cut it completely. He just laughed and said "I... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Intolerance Symptoms Besides Gi Issues
lizard00 replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Let me rephrase that: I am not going to try lactaid because I think that my problem is either an allergy or intolerance to the casein rather than the lactose. I don't get any of the common symptoms associated with lactose intolerance, and the effects of dairy on me seem to cause allergy/sinus problems. The gluten protein and the casein protein are very similar... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Intolerance Symptoms Besides Gi Issues
lizard00 replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I should add too, that my sinus pressure went away with the removal of dairy. Normally, at this time of the year down here in NC, I would be dying. But, it's been a relatively easy allergy season for me. I was taking allergy medicine daily earlier this year. When I finally cut out the dairy, I discovered that I didn't need it anymore. And there were times... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Intolerance Symptoms Besides Gi Issues
lizard00 replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Dairy breaks me out too. It has by far been the HARDEST thing to give up. It also gives me a headache, sometimes with sinus pressure. Sometimes it will give me GI symptoms, but not always. I find that if I do just a little, it doesn't seem to bother upset my stomach. But if I eat too much, which is not much, then everything just feels inflamed, and all foods... -
ARCHIVED Grrr! I Hate Doctors!
lizard00 replied to vthuskies's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Um... on a side note. Did your insurance flat out refuse to pay Prometheus? I am going back and forth with them right now for the test did they did in May. My insurance isn't refusing to pay (at this point), but I am getting bills from Prometheus now and there is NO claim history with my insurance from them. Not sure why they're dragging their feet in sending... -
ARCHIVED Gene Testing Totally Confused
lizard00 replied to sandpiper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Honestly, genetics is not my strength. I know that someone here is DQ3 and dx'd Celiac. And many here are DQ1 (as Nora pointed out). But, that's about as specific as I know. I've read many articles that indicate at least nine genes total that are associated with Celiac Disease, but my brain has a hard time retaining that info. Start talking about alpha and... -
ARCHIVED Grrr! I Hate Doctors!
lizard00 replied to vthuskies's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My first GI was like that. He wouldn't even order an endo, though. Which, at that point, I would've done. He told me that I had cut ALL carbs out of my diet and what did I expect to happen? I think he thought that I was some stupid girl who was trying to lose weight and did some crazy diet that screwed my insides up. Even after I told him twice about my family... -
ARCHIVED Gene Testing Totally Confused
lizard00 replied to sandpiper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Prometheus did my testing as well. And I am in the exact opposite place as you... 31X risk. Either way, it's true, it doesn't exclude it. There are other genes recognized with Celiac. There are are few people on here who don't possess either of the two, and yet are diagnosed Celiacs. OR... you could have non-Celiac gluten intolerance. In which case... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know What This Is?
lizard00 replied to jasonD2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut

ARCHIVED Reacting To Not Common Things
lizard00 replied to nfady's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use cetaphil and LOVE it. My face is still a work in progress, but cutting dairy was a big factor, and then controlling the irriation was the other piece. I use it without water, since my skin is really dry and irritates very easily. -
ARCHIVED The First 3 Months After Dx
lizard00 replied to mslee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's been interesting reading this post, and then reflecting back on the past year for me. I'll be gluten-free for one year next month. Wow, how time flies!! In some ways, I felt better after one week. The daily headaches were gone. The constant nausea was gone. I by no means was energetic, but I stopped waking up exhausted. And then I went on my first... -
ARCHIVED Coffee, Wine, Balsamic Vinegar Processed With Gluten!

I believe this came up in another of your posts. Could you please site the source for the information in the first paragraph? -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter Soup?
lizard00 replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That sounds YUM! I've made an african version of that with less broth and some crushed tomatoes. Add some meat and a little red pepper flake... to die for. But I am a sucker for sweet potatoes, I'm going to have to give this a try. Thanks for posting! -
ARCHIVED Starbucks New Signature Hot Chocolates
lizard00 replied to LLatham's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are many days where I feel the same way. It does seem way harder to be df than gluten-free. Becoming gluten-free was not nearly as hard as trying to be df. -
ARCHIVED Gut Imbalance And Dysbiosis Behind Everything.
lizard00 replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
What a weird topic. My husband and I were actually just talking about this the other day. I generally don't use deodorant, haven't used an antiperspirant in ages. I read somewhere and totally agree that if your body is not toxic, deodorant is not necessary. I do notice a difference when I don't eat as well as usual. The only time I smell anything is... -
I am SOOO addicted to those things. This past time I put chopped macadamia nuts and dried blueberries in them. YUM! My whole family LOVES them.
