  1. I would question the chips, myself. Chips can sometimes do a number on me because they can be contaminated by the oil they're fried in. Can you eat dairy? I found out after a few months that I kept getting sick after eating dairy.... one of those unfortunate side effects. I love mexican too, but I hardly eat it out anymore either.
  2. It definitely is worth a shot. Check out Peter Green's book Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic. It specifically mentions osteoporosis as a side effect, and that while Celiac is more common in women, in men it is usually worse. So, your osteoporosis at such a young age sends a big warning flag to me. Positive response to the diet really is the best...
  3. I made the scones earlier and used the Spectrum. My first time making scones.. I think. Anyway, they turned out great!!! I made pumpkin scones and put maple butter on top while they were still warm so it melted a little... YUMMMMM
  4. Thanks Patti I'm going to Whole Foods in a little bit, so I wanted to be sure it was there. Thanks everyone for your speedy replies. I was hoping to have an answer before I had to go shopping. Yay
  5. Would the measurement be the same? Could you find that at Whole Foods?
  6. I'm not a big baker... at all. But I want to make some scones for this weekend, and the recipe calls for vegan margarine. I can't do dairy, but I don't think highly of margarine. Is vegan margarine different than regular margarine, or is there something else I can use that will do the trick? I need 6 tbsp. Thanks to all you bakers!!!
  7. Wanted to add my welcome too!!! This website helped A LOT, especially in the beginning. I am glad you feel welcome here and please feel free to ask away. The forum is full of incredibly knowledgable and caring people who are always ready to help!!
  8. I am SOOO going to steal that to help other people understand!!! You just made my entire night, that was hilarious; but a very simple way to describe it. No, there is no way I would eat pizza toppings off of a pizza. In the very beginning, I think I did that once. It just wasn't good... But we all make mistakes and learn and go on. One thing you can...
  9. I was exhausted all the time. Could sleep 10 hours at night and still wake up feeling exhausted. This gradually went away with the gluten-free diet. I am about 7 months into it, and I'm not quite back to normal, but 8 months ago I couldn't make it through one day without crashing. And I wake up feeling like I actually rested. You could be anemic, you could...
  10. I'm talking to her right now, and he's the one. Check him out!
  11. Hi and Welcome to the forum!!! Without the ranges, it's hard to say if your IgA serum is normal. At my lab, they would be. So, if you have the ranges, can you post those too? As for your Celiac Panel: If you have been gluten free for a year, then your results should be negative. You have to be consuming gluten for your body to make antibodies...
  12. I've got the Gluten Free for Dummies and really like it. It's got recipes and some good info that is broken down and very easy to understand. It's written for anyone who is affected by a gluten-free diet, so it's great for family members who maybe don't understand.
  13. This article was on the front page of our life section today. It is mostly to highlight the business, but it definitely gives celiac disease and food allergies their deserved attention. Open Original Shared Link
  14. Dbmamaz, My cousin lives in Richmond and goes to an osteopath. She loves him, not sure if it's the one listed above, but I'll ask her the next time I talk to her.
  15. Ok...so there's a whole school of thought that Gluten Intolerance is pre-Celiac. That's not really been proven at this point, however. But the experts DO know that you can be non-Celiac gluten sensitive, in which case the gluten isn't causing an autoimmune rxn, but you can physically feel just as bad as someone diagnosed with Celiac. And symptoms can be...
  16. Hi nikiann and welcome to the forum! The whole first paragraph pretty much was me. Except I am not a vegetarian... but I had extreme fatigue and headaches, and my periods have been irregular since they started. My GP checked me for deficiencies, including B12 and vit D, thyroid, lyme, you name it. In the end it really was gluten that was causing all...
  17. This was a thread a day or so ago about gluten-free Clinique products. Open Original Shared Link I used to work for one of the Big 3 Cosmetic counters, and we had a lot of eye shadow returns from people who were allergic to the red dyes that are often used in eyeshadows. MAC is really into dramatic color, so I would suspect that a lot of their shadows...
  18. Yes I think it just may have been overlooked. Our apologies. When I get glutened, my pain is also around my belly button. That's the small intestine, and that's where the rxn is taking place, so that make sense to me. I feel like my intestines are on fire, I can literally feel it burning. So, if you suspect you may have been glutened, that's...
  19. That is exactly how I felt when I discovered the link to gluten and my symptoms. No meds to control it, just a change in diet. It seems drastic to some, but to me, I saw it as the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel so much better now, I can't even imagine going back to eating that stuff.
  20. Thanks for your post. I haven't been to the Twisted Fork yet. There were so many mixed reviews when they first opened that we just never went. BUUTTT... now that I know they are gluten-free friendly.... I might give them a try. Did they have a printout or did the server ask the chef and then give you a list from there? Just wanted an idea if we ever...
  21. I happen to love goat cheese. I ate it waaay before I went gluten-free just because I enjoyed it, but had never tried the other varieties other than the most common soft cheese. I did make a beet salad with goat cheese that was fantastic. The tanginess of the goat cheese really worked with the sweetness of the beet. It was arugula, beets (red), and...
  22. I'm IgA deficient too. If your IgA serum is low, your IgA tests would naturally be low or negative. My Celiac Panel was negative. I went gluten-free though, on my own, which I just figured skewed the whole thing. My GI told me that because of the low IgA my test was absolutely useless, and we went with a genetic panel. If you are still consuming gluten...
  23. How many of you guys on a DF or CF diet can tolerate goat's cheeses? My dairy rxn is a milder version of my gluten rxn, so I'm begrudgingly giving up dairy. I tried some (a small piece) goat's jack cheese tonight and it seemed to be ok, just wondering if it's wishful thinking and if I actually try it on say, a sandwich or something, it'd make me sick. Thanks...
  24. I agree. And I'll do my part to demand a cookbook... I have referenced a few of these recipes a time or two. AND I am looking forward to rice cream recipes. YUM
