  1. Relax and take a deep breath. It is a contact dermatitis allergy reaction. I get this all the time from the chemicals used in stores. For example, yesterday I purchased dog food from the feed store. When I got home, I lifted one bag and slung it over my hip to carry it into the garage storage bin because we needed it soon, without putting on a long sleeved...
  2. You may have to go "more" gluten free to the point of being considered eccentric by a conventional medical professional who hasn't experienced this, but it beats being sick all the time. In the beginning I was grain free and low starch for a long time. And I'm still lower carb than a "normal." I am not "normal." I am me, damaged by living for most...
  3. The Chipotle's in northern CA (Sacramento area) are testing out a (shudder...) tofu burrito so they can appeal to the vegan market. I think it is called a "sofrito." Just an FYI for those gluten free people also trying to avoid soy proteins - watch out for the tofu.
  4. Nothing in life is absolute anyway, and celiac testing is the same (and rather crude at the current time). Some doctors are recognizing the problems with the testing process itself missing a lot of people. When you are sick enough, you don't really give a flying rat's patootie whether or not anyone else accepts your diet and you will be motivated enough...
  5. Really, your husband should be up for some sort of .... of.... award for that. Like "Mr. Clueless Glutenoid 2013, special category, potential anaphylactic reaction non family member successfully thwarted"
  6. ??? All of these foods you named have gluten free versions, no need to be running 2 menus, just convert the rest of them over to "gluten free at home." If you lack motivation and wish you had medical confirmation, do it now before you are gluten free for very long, and lose the antibodies to gluten, so you'd get a false negative, but, keep in mind that...
  7. I do it for myself, and of course if I had a child I would do it for them, as well. The goal is to minimize the total exposure to gluten so that the total amount that gets by anyway does not trigger a reaction which causes internal damage, even if you cannot see it. Many of the common, otc drugs are putting "gluten free" on the labels, like the generic...
  8. = Behavior changes caused by gluten, i.e., the meltdowns. Young teensters & toddlers.... aie yee yee.
  9. If it feels like the entire ribcage itself, it could be costochondritis, an inflammation of the connective tissue holding together the ribcage. This goes along with certain types of auto immune or generalized inflammation conditions, like some types of arthritis. A flare-up will coincide with a glutening if you have a gluten problem, as well. It is good...
  10. Last night was terrible, but part of it was due to those powerful winds here. Last month a big branch came down in the back, and tore off a large length of the roof gutter. Same tree dropped another one during the early morning when it was blowing and this time it hit the roof first, then bounced into the yard and into a bush last week, near where the...
  11. It has taken me a year since I started to work up to this level, but, I guarantee if you ride a bike for 10 miles, you WILL crash and sleep as soon as you eat dinner. I can't run because of a recurring problem with my feet/ankles, but this does it. Swimming works, but then you have to have a pool, (we are crazy, we bought ours used for cheap $ and rebuilt...
  12. Can't believe how slow the state of Missouri house of representatives website is Open Original Shared Link Status: Bill = HB 549 Requires personal care items sold in this state to include on its label whether the items contain gluten Sponsor Vicki Englund, co sponsor Rory Ellinger LR number 1253L.01l Last action referred : Health Care Policy House...
  13. You really need to get written copies of all your test results. This will help you in the future if another doctor gives you any grief about adhering to a gluten free diet. What your current doctor is doing is borderline criminal, imo. He/she is saying keep eating gluten if you want to, because it hasn't damaged you enough yet to reach the state of being...
  14. No caffeine after early after noon (sob...) and with enough exercise, especially in the late afternoon/early evening, you will sleep. That doc sounds like he's trying to house break a puppy or something. I was so .... grateful with this last dog, she not only was easy, she would actually want to go to sleep after dinner and not wake up and want...

    ARCHIVED Doctors!

Yeah, the time I got the really horrible poison oak rash in places you cannot imagine (including my face ) I was dosed to the gills on Benedryl, and spent several weeks dozing on the couch waiting for it to go away - but at least the side effect was that my arthritis didn't bother me. Why is my hip not killing me, I wondered ? So I looked up the Benedryl...
  16. Not everybody gets the test results that reflect the reality of what happens after they ingest what is bothering them. You could be non celiac gluten intolerant. It's like celiac, only you don't get the diagnosis. Just the recipes. If you stop eating gluten, get on some gluten free vitamins and minerals, winnow out any other food intolerance problems...
  17. You don't owe anyone else an explanation of what is causing you to feel a certain way, because the average person *might* be able to throw around a bit of psychobabble talking points from watching Oprah, Dr. Oz, and a few other cable teevee personalities, or reading trashy popular magazines online, but they have not taken college level courses in psychology...
  18. "Cosmetics don't enter the bloodstream.... ?" Not unless they are ingested, duh ! but the residue is always on your hands and anywhere else it's applied. My one dog got in several licks on my cheek tonight (a sneaky kiss, I don't encourage this) when I was in the car and she put her paws up between the seats and was excited when we started off again. ...
  19. Whatever it is, it's not likely heartburn. Get checked out. Burn/tickle after exertion could be asthma but might be something else, you could also have picked up some sort of nasty lung infection - or a heart virus - or get this- I've had severely pinched nerves from my neck play havoc with muscles in my shoulders, upper arms, and chest. Also could be...
  20. There is no such thing as packing too much gluten free snack food on an airline trip, just ask anyone who blundered into one of those Voyages of the Damned where they won't let you out of the airline terminals and most of the flights are canceled, then the replacement plane can't take off because it needs repairs, which they tell you after you and all your...
  21. You described the weirdo brain sensations so incredibly accurately - it almost feels like a mini- seizure. I had this off and on for years until finally getting rid of them (knock on wood) about 7 years ago, had to go very, very clean, grainless, and elemental on my diet, and the last bad flareup I had was when I had a period of several days where I was...
  22. My philosophy has always been that if they are not going to diagnose I am just not going to eat it anymore because I know it makes me quite sick. Been off of it (gluten) for 10 years, (not officially diagnosed) and last December ate thru a few bags of corn chips and a box of new pecans.... and blew up in a nasty rash. Holy Moley, what the &^%$...
  23. Yes, celiac reactions can worsen over time, and they can be neurological in nature. You may have to start eating more fresh foods you prepare yourself and fewer packaged ones, or figure out what common item is setting you off. Also, please get checked for thyroid disease, esp. the thyroid antibodies and not just the hormone levels.
  24. April 5, 2013. (since this is an older thread) Maranatha makes a "Dark Chocolate Almond Spread" which is similar to Nutella, but almond based, for those who cannot get along with all of the ingredients in the original Nutella. It is a bit grainier and needs to be stirred, and sometimes heated up just a little in the wintertime, but can be a most acceptable...
