  1. Have a look at this one: Open Original Shared Link grain free pumpkin muffins Original - Uses amaranth, buckwheat, arrowroot. Tapioca can sub for arrowroot, and the other 2/3 can be something like half almond meal and 1/6 and 1/6 buckwheat/amaranth, total is one cup flour. Says can sub more flax gels for the eggs, or 1/2 cup yogurt. Since...
  2. Are you okay with dairy, like yogurt or cheese or is that out, too ? I can't remember. How about gums, such as xanthan or guar ? Psyllium ? Chia ? What about the EnerG Egg Replacer stuff, Open Original Shared Link That is potato starch, tapioca, leavening, methylcellulose mixed in water, and it's only 1.5 teaspoons of the dry mix per "egg...
  3. Try mail ordering the gluten free pasta, if you do not have a store that is putting it on sale once in a while. Yes, you may have to order 6 packages at a time, but it's not like you're not going to go thru it quickly, it's much cheaper, and it's not going to spoil. For the baking, there are LOTS of gluten free foodie bakers all over the bloggosphere...
  4. Oh, for Pete's sake I thought I was having all sorts of issues, again, last winter, and it turns out I just needed to get rid of anything gluten free that was processed in a facility with allegedly gluten free oats. This thing with the parasites, supposedly infesting so many, we would seriously be much better off if we had our dogs or horses...
  5. Get the Dr. Christiane Northrup books http://www.drnorthrup.com/bookstore/index.php on this topic, and start reading them. Perimenopause can last a very long time, and there are a lot of different options on what you can do to deal with it. I won't tell you how long mine went before I finally had to have one ovary that was causing most of the problems...

    ARCHIVED Feeling Low

It takes a while to figure out how to really avoid all cross contamination and to customize your food choices so you can function. Do not forget, you have an auto immune disease, and many people with the kind that needs to be medicated are given a sort of "pass" by society to be .... less than energetic, yet we are supposed to be "normal" other than the...
  7. Lyme disease can cause celiac and gluten intolerance. As you have discovered, it is possible to have a full blown case of gluten intolerance, yet be negative for all the traditional tests for it. But if you are waiting for yet another doctor to take more money out of your wallet with yet more tests while you search for a reason to try going completely gluten...
  8. I really don't see why your family's opinion of anything outweighs your need not to be making yourself sick.
  9. You should get the other half of the testing done (biopsy) before messing around with going on and off, on and off, gluten. Not unusual for someone who has been off only a short time to think that they are not having a gluten reaction. Also, a lot of people are on other medications which may muffle their ability to "feel" or notice subtle reactions...
  10. Oh, so sorry bartfull, if this corn thing is an allergy, can you check and see if you can take an antihistamine at the same time to knock down the reaction to it ? Oh, wait, that might have corn in it, too. gaaaaaaaaaaaaah. What about some sorts of otc heartburn acid blockers, have heard that they also can act as an antihistamine- like allergy...
  11. Sacrilege !
  12. Oh, puh-lease, Not_This_***_Again. "Gluten" is the science word for grain protein. It is also used by some international manufacturers of grain products to mean any sort of protein flour. Of course corn contains 'corn gluten,' because it is the protein in the inner part of the seed. But Corn's gluten is DIFFERENT than wheat's gluten...
  13. See here: wiki HLA-DQ8 Open Original Shared Link Those genes can be found in Africans and their descendants, too.
  14. The tests are for antibodies (or that type of immune reaction) to the grain proteins, and candida is a fungus, so I don't think having one skews the other tests. I suspect that there is a lot of stuff we don't really know about this yet, on they layperson's level, but the susceptability to yeast infections is also a sign that the whole metabolic system is...
  15. Uhm, unlikely. Gluten interacts with your intestines. Greetings from MosquitoLand, where we have a lot of West Nile problems. Some people are sensitive to DEET. Do not ever mix "DEET" with sprays containing pyrethins (such as used in horse fly- spray repellants) as the effect is synergistic (multiplied) and you end up with something that can be...
  16. "Natural" is an abused term in American food manufacturing labeling. Look for "processed in a facility with" warnings, or check online or call the consumer advice number, to see what else was processed on the same lines - that is usually your answer.
  17. No, low fat diet is not the "trigger," but if it is there, lurking, (meaning the gluten intolerance,) the typical low fat, high grain veggie diet does tend to bring out the symptoms. My theory is that much of the addictive behaviors we see are a result of modern malnutrition, from undiagnosed celiac and gluten intolerance, (and this spans all races...

ARCHIVED Please Help! (Very Long Post)

First, I read everything (I read fast ). Second, your malnourishment is causing your anxiety. So take a deep breath. And get those gluten free vitamin and mineral supplements started, if it is permissible with your colitis. That's actually good that somebody took x rays showing that you do have arthritis/bone problems, because that is another...
  19. You will be able to tell, with time, whether or not you have been glutened. REALLY. Anxiety is a symptom of gluten contamination. So- you are having a symptom. My life is a strange combination of whole raw and cooked simple foods, and a few manufactured items that do not set me off. Some of the problem is gluten, other of the problem was the...
  20. A properly balanced gluten free diet will not make her sick. It also will not make a normal person sick. Going on a gluten free diet, if she then starts to get sick if she ingests gluten, proves that she has a problem with it. If she's not "happy" with it, then you need to work on your attitude, which she will pick up from you.
  21. While I am a huge fan of the SCD for adults, having done it myself (modified version, as I didn't do dairy in the beginning, years ago) children need more carbohydrates than those of us who respond to a low- carb, high fat, high protein diet. If nuts don't bother him, and they are gluten free, let him eat them. Some of these diets are written up by...
  22. I don't know, but, I am glad you are getting results, and stick with it, because you can continue to improve for years. Much of our processed foods have additives/preservatives and strange, hard to digest chemicals in them which are designed to thwart the growth of bacteria and molds and fungus, and/or they have herbicide and pesticide residues in levels...
  23. So this doctor wants you to torture yourself for the next 4 weeks so they can run some tests that will likely show you to be "negative" anyway. Like magic your blood tests after 6 years off gluten are going to come back up suddenly positive after only four weeks. Tell me, has the doctor scheduled his month of August vacation yet or .... ?
  24. Ditto what others said. Get tested, but try the gluten free diet anyway afterwards, even if you test supposedly negative. I am not formally diagnosed, but all my kidney / bladder symptoms cleared up on the diet. The kidneys filter calcium to control levels of it in the blood, and the excess has to go somewhere, and it gets deposited in the wrong places...
  25. I had one of the most bizarro-land experiences of my life with this brain MRI thing years ago. Doctors office calls me up and the office dweeble tells me I have brain lesions, but won't give me any details because this office makes you come see the doctor for test results. And there is a wait of weeks to months between appointments. She cancels, or rather...
