  1. You need to rinse beans out of the can really well to get rid of the hard to digest starch, before cooking or eating. If you cook dried beans, you should rinse them after soaking in water, before cooking. Also, some of the other gluten free starches can make people bloat up, like tapioca. It's not a gluten reaction, per se, but still causes bloating...
  2. DON'T eat the chia seeds raw !!!! They must be put in liquid first, because they swell up like crazy. Re the cravings. If you can find a gluten free vitamin B complex, and a calcium, magnesium mineral(s) to take that would help. You body interprets low blood calcium as carbohydrate/sugar cravings. The B vitamins are needed to ensure your other...
  3. What kind of gluten free flours or nut meals are you using ? What recipe ? Remember, Rice- Tapioca is the Hockey Puck of Champions.
  4. I faked a gluten free tomato soup 2 weeks ago, without dairy, just to see if I could do it as I was a little suspicious of the commercial gluten free soup I was using. Put a splash of olive oil in the pan, and saute some chopped onion in it. Other vegetables optional. Add a heaping spoon of gluten free flour** after the onion is cooked, and make a roux...
  5. "Yesterday I ate completely gluten free..." what about the day before ? Whether or not a food causes symptoms depends on whether or not it contains gluten. Finding out which brands are cross contaminated or not is a learning curve. You may also be reacting to soy, which is frequently found in canned tuna. Try to find a brand without it. Once...
  6. Now that sounds good !
  7. Can't believe I'm doing this again. Attention celiacs and gluten intolerants: PANERA IS A WHEAT BAKERY. Do not eat there unless you want a very high probability to be cross contaminated by gluten. I have had to smack down this rumor before that their foods, especially their soups, are supposedly gluten free, they are not. A lot of restaurants...
  8. Yes, some brands of liners and pads can contain gluten, and for some of us with super sensitive skin, .... Try the rub on progesterone otc cream for the bad periods, which counterbalances high estrogen. That and calcium and magnesium supplements.
  9. You did good. All this internet chatter about the new gluten-free Daura beer and here we find out that the stuff is made of barley. Read the link. One person said it tasted like Stoh's. Must be the "imported from Spain" that's the marketing hook.
  10. Over50, Ditch the soy milk. $%^&*(*(%^##$%%^ "nutritionist" should know that an awful lot of celiacs also react to soy. You might be okay with small amounts of soy lecithin in some items. A lot of times a person just tries to blame additional sensitivities, when it is really cross contamination from a source that is not really gluten free...
  11. You're allergic to barley and you drank beer made of barley.... You're still allergic to barley. This has been another simple answer to simple questions. I personally, do not try to consume things that I know I am allergic to or have an auto immune reaction to, despite the assurances of the manufacturer that is will "be okay." But that...
  12. LOL, Jason, that's great, but what is the name of the restaurant ? Was it Posana Cafe or one of the other ones Open Original Shared Link
  13. Hmmm. I know that Azna Bakery said they were offering baking classes, but that's up here in NorCal in El Dorado County. If you can, try to find a copy of a Betty Hagman baking book, since that is really a good, basic text to use for reference. What I would do is start googling: Gluten free orange county california and Gluten...
  14. LOL, Sylvia, I did the same thing, and was looking at the psyllium recently and wondering if it was time to start playing with it. A recipe for the full size loaf that Mrs P came up with, using teff, sorghum, sweet potato flour, and psyllium, is on this page here post #41. At four cups gluten-free flours that would make a BIG loaf, somebody may...
  15. I don't know about the fertility thing. But obviously, not cycling is not normal. You are so young. But if you are really gluten intolerant, and you're still eating gluten, it does not help. The older I got, the worst my cycles became. I had really bad endometriosis. Fibroids, too. Not only that, but they were short cycle intervals, so I was...
  16. You may have to try a bun-in-the-bowl gluten free version, made in the microwave, then toast it, to get a fresh bun. While I tend to use dark colored whole grainy types of gluten free flours, you could also do this with some rice flour mixtures, with adjustments, such as rice/corn/sorghum, but you might have to add a pinch of xantham gum if it...
  17. Very nice basic introductory article !
  18. Good to see some pushback to that Wall Street Journal article with the dreadful quotes that will not go away.
  19. It's probably too late unless you've been consistently cheating all along. I don't know why Doctors bother to schedule these tests on people who have been gluten free for a long time, (years) unless they just like to automatically get reimbursed by the insurance companies. But kuddos to your ob gyn for at least recognizing symptoms may match disease...
  20. I don't understand the herd dining instinct, either. If we find some place that can do gluten free or even has it on the menu option, we are pretty loyal customers. And I'm not talking anything exotic. I'm talking can you make a simple egg meal for breakfast with a fruit side, NO toast, no batter sneaking into the scrambled eggs, and maybe a plain serving...
  21. Enjoy life chocolate chips don't have any bad things in them and can be used for things besides cookies.
  22. The hair will grow back. But she needs to stick to the gluten free diet, faithfully. (maybe ditch the soy, also.) I hate to sound like a cosmetics ad, but she can have all sorts of nice thick hair again, but No Gluten. Haircoats that are thick, soft, and shiny in pets and animals is one of the first ways we assess their health - same with humans...
  23. Yeah, college students are not exactly noted for their empathy at times. Most people get happier as adults anyway. Look at the bright side, you are, by getting officially diagnosed now, instead of going thru years or decades of increasingly whacked out symptoms that doctors will try to suggest is IAIYH, IBS, FIBRO, FIBRO BRAIN FOG, STRESS, ANXIETY...
  24. Can you put the full text of the lab test up there, made up example like this test for such and such. results= >10, (greater than 10 measuring units ). Reference range is 1 to 30. (0 to 9 is no, 10 to 20 is yes weak to medium positive, 21 to 30 is high) On the numbers for the genes, I'm pretty sure you've dropped one digit. No, wait,...
  25. Taco Bell "beef" filling, 36% "beef," and 64% other stuff: Water * Isolated oat product (didn't grandma used to call this - fiber ? ) Salt Chili pepper Onion powder Tomato powder *Oats (wheat) Soy lecithin Sugar Spices *Maltodextrin (a polysaccharide that is absorbed as glucose) Soybean oil (anti-dusting agent) Garlic...
