  1. I was also a lactose intolerant "irritable bowel syndrome" person, with gas, bloating, diarrhea among my major symptoms. Many on here have had the neurological symptoms, including migraine and vertigo, and a I had a prolonged bout of vertigo at one stage for which no cause was found and no treatment was effective. It resolved on its own. Be aware that...
  2. That must be really annoying, to have them go up instead of down. Some possibilities come to mind for gluten exposure (forgive me if you have already taken these steps to make yourself gluten free): lipsticks, lip gloss, cosmetics, toothpaste, other toiletries; gluten residual on cookware, wooden cutting boards and spoons, plastic containers, colander...
  3. This used to be common for me, and still is when I get accidentally glutened: Pounding, rapid heartbeat; very wired, like my head is plugged into an electrical outlet; inability to relax despite conscious efforts--slow rhythmic breathing, etc.; restlessness; and of course inability to sleep. For years I have taken diazepam at bedtime as a sleep aid (to...
  4. Here is INR from Wikipedia: The prothrombin time (PT) and its derived measures of prothrombin ratio (PR) and international normalized ratio (INR) are measures of the extrinsic pathway of coagulation. They are used to determine the clotting tendency of blood, in the measure of warfarin dosage, liver damage, and vitamin K status. The reference range for...
  5. That may be true, but 98.8% them contain soy lecithin as an emulsifier! And I just went to buy my Well Naturally chocolate bar, and they have pulled them from the shelf because some lady claimed she got sick from eating them. What's a gal gotta do to get a chocolate fix???
  6. I have recently convinced my doctor to give me vitamin D supplementation at a high level (50,000 iu/wk) because my levels were "in the toilet" as ShayFL used to say--at the very bottom end of the scale. It will be interesting to see if that works. I have been avoiding the sun, especially because we have so little ozone down here! Thanks for this info...
  7. I don't particularly like them either, but they are chocolate! And this one contains no soy (I think?)--one of the few. I will email them again.
  8. Oops, my bad! whenever I see rheumatologist and arthritis in the same paragraph I always assume rheumatoid arthritis. It is SO confusing that they call both osteo- and rheumatoid diseases arthritis when they are in fact so different. On the other hand, my rheumatoid arthritis first manifested itself in the muscles and connective tissue in my neck and...
  9. These are the things in your post that stood out for me, things I would never have thought to associate with celiac even if I had known about celiac at the time: After being a constant in my life these have now gone away, the infections that is; I have permanent impaired renal function from the prescribed anti-inflammatories for my RA. ...
  10. You may or may not become sensitive to other things. Depends on how irritated your body is with what you have been doing to it. And it probably depends on the individual how long it lasts. I would describe it as a sensitivity rather than an allergy. I had skin testing done many years ago, long before the celiac realisation, which showed mild sensitivity...
  11. You will find elsewhere on this forum that these are not the only genes associated with celiac. In Europe, especially, they recognise others. The gene experts on here will advise you further, but IMHO she is celiac, regardless of what the doctor says.
  12. My first rheumatologist was pretty clueless too. (I have psoriatic arthritis). Don't know why I stuck with him so long--old school, retired from his hospital practice but still in private practice. I now see his partner, a really caring woman who knows what's what. She is totally up with the play. However, I must say that thanks to this forum I am either...
  13. Welcome to the forum, C.S. Blogsmith. I feel your pain. While I have no claim to special artistry or to philosophical brilliance, there is no doubt that celiac disease does change one's relationship to one's friends and to life in general. It is said but true, not matter how much we deny it or wish it were not so. Even those who stick by us are afraid...

    ARCHIVED I Hate Kaiser!

Most of the places I worked at in California offered Kaiser or "another" HMO. You were always left with the "anything but Kaiser" option, which sometimes probably turned out to be worse. Of course, I do have a bias which I hereby disclose: I worked closely with an attorney (former Masters prepared RN) who made a very nice living suing Kaiser for med...
  15. HaHaHa!! We don't get Enjoy Life choc chips down here But every now and again I find Living Well chocolate bars, outrageously priced, and splurge a little (well, a lot actually). But they don't last long
  16. The only way I know of is an elimination diet. However, you haven't told us what symptoms you had before giving up gluten. Were they gastrointestinal, neurological, or what? The answer to your question would really depend on knowing how you were before. Did you have a biopsy showing villous atrophy? This would indicate that you should eliminate lactose...
  17. I would say that now you have come this far and suffered for two months, you might as well stick it out and get tested; that way you will never kick yourself for not following through. From reading your post it seems like you did not really have the motivation to stay gluten free without know whether or not you were celiac. If your testing does come out...
  18. Takala, do you have ankylosing spondylitis? If so, are you able to mostlycontrol it gluten free? I first started the gluten free diet after our house builder told me that this back problem was caused by AS and he absolutely refused to touch gluten. Unfortunately I have not been able to control my PsA with diet and have had to finally resort to taking...

Try posting them in " Celiac Disease - Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms "
  20. Isn't it a bummer that they have to put soy in so much chocolate!!! I would love to try the Lindt orange, have actually had it in my hot little hand several times and reluctantly put it back.
  21. Kim, I know nothing about Redbridge or other gluten free beers, but I know others have complained on here about reacting to some of Amy's products--can't remember which ones. I tried some when I was there last year and had no problems; it seems to depend on your sensitivity. I think some might be processed on the same lines as???
  22. I would hold off on the caffeine (some herbal teas would be okay), margarine okay, careful with the spices as some of the mixes contain gluten (McCormicks is supposed to be okay) and perhaps eliminate the sugar for a while in case you have candida overgrowth. Give it a good 7 days and you may well notice improvement. If not, come back for more help. If...
  23. Thank you so much for publishing that link. That is the first article I have read on the relationship between psoriatic arthritis and coeliac, although I knew that there must be one. I will have to talk to my rheumatologist

    ARCHIVED Blood Tests Vs Biopsy

Peaches sound good, also pears, apricots, plums. For vegetables you can do purees of things like parsnips, sweet potatoes, carrots, potatoes, and in combinations that tickle your fancy; get your greens in from things like spinach and swiss chard; I would avoid cabbage for now. I know, it sounds a bit like baby food , but you will need to baby your tummy...
