  1. I see a lot of legumes and pulses, and rice in your future Beans and rice make complete protein. Lots of vegetable casseroles. Be sure to soak all your beans thoroughly. You get to try new "grains" like quinoa, buckwheat, sorghum, millet, amaranth, teff. Cream of rice or rice flake cereals. I eat a Bircher muesli mix of seeds, rice flakes, dried fruits...
  2. I am still taking Vitamin D, and B12 injections, and my MCV just came back high again so I am going to have to go back on folate - 4 years down the track. For some of us it seems we just need to keep on supplementing - I just read recently that for many of us the intestinal tract never fully heals.
  3. I would add to the food intolerance list with symptoms of rashes, itching, hives, gluten-like reactions (of shorter duration), acne all over face (never had it as a teen), heart palpitations. Everyone reacts diferently; i.e., there is no common reaction to a specific food and your reaction will be unique to you. Foods I reacted to immediately were...
  4. The Joplin tornado was ten months ago. Your condition may have changed since then. If you are really looking for a definitive answer I would switch doctors and ask for a celiac blood panel to be drawn. Of course, this would require you to resume eating gluten for a couple of months. Even going back to gluten may give you the answers you are looking for...
  5. I really don't think that being off gluten for a week will turn a positive test into a negative - it's just not long enough. I meant that because of her age the testing is not terribly reliable, and there is a 20% approximate error rate in the testing anyway. I meant that with neurological symptoms you don't always get a positive gut result, and I meant...
  6. Okay, I see we cross-posted and they did do the DGP. And the last one is the total serum IgA to make sure she is a normal IgA antibody producer, which she is. But it is still possible to have a positive biopsy result with negative blood work, and it is still possible for gluten to be the problem even when all testing is negative If you decide to proceed...
  7. Everything I have read says that gluten is passed through breast milk. And yes, if the oatmeal was not gluten free she could have reacted to that too. If you are grinding wheet, there is going to be flour in the air and she will not only be breathing it but it will eventually settle and land on food and utensils and the floor and will actually be everywhere...
  8. Oh Rachel, your poor wee baby. My heart was just breaking as I was reading your post. What a time of it she has had, and yes, it does sound very much like it was all due to gluten. Soft teeth, broken bones, yeast infections, really skinny but bloated belly, rashes, loose stools, delayed development, weakness, what sounds like gluten ataxia (poor balance...
  9. In all fairness to Charlie, she is employed by the two docs who own the practice (and more popular than either of them ) and has no control over what procedures they set up. I actually like her and make the system work by knowing its limitations (hence my duplicate file and constant follow-up / taking the initiative ) Besides, I would have to drive for...
  10. Congrats on your pregnancy. I don't know why most fertility docs don't know about and don't test for celiac Carb addictionis are very real, especially wheat . It is like quitting smoking, you do have to get over the hump and it may take longer for some than others, depending on the level of addiction. I thought I was doing fine without cigarettes...
  11. Good golly, yes, that is insane if no one has yet tested you for celiac
  12. It is not unusual to have problems with so-called gluten-free processed foods, because they contain starches that your body is probably not used to digesting. They can also contain low doses of gluten (under 20 ppm, but if you eat a lot of them in a day those 20's start adding up - the gluten dosage is cumulative ). I would recommend eliminating all processed...
  13. Hubs was in the Army when we married in Germany Town Without Pity was a 1961 movie about a gang rape by American soldiers in the German village of Neustadt. How it became associated with Kaiserslautern I will never know ETA: Neustadt is apparently only 25 mins by train from K-town.
  14. Patients?? They don't care about the health of their patients. They are in love with their damned tests!!!
  15. Good heavens, yes, we most certainly most stop these patients from thinking for themselves because we all know that without the wisdom of a DOCTOR advisisng them they are totally incapable of following a strict gluten-free diet, and they just enjoy spending money in an unjustified manner (and depriving doctors from their rightful income)
  16. I have a sneaking suspicion that my lab results go straight to the secretary who scans them into my electronic file and any hard copy gets stuck in a big box of "filing" (Or maybe it's the 'round' filel ). Or maybe there IS no hard copy, that they come in electronically into my file, either automatically or placed there by secretary or ?nurse? and maybe...
  17. If you tested positive for celiac, you are celiac, and no, you don't need a specialist to tell you that. Welcome to the board.
  18. I was watching the latest version of MasterChef last night, which involved 16 contestants in two teams baking bread for a local artisan bakery to be delivered to the Auckland Hilton Hotel. One of the loaves that each of the two teams had to bake was a gluten free carrot loaf (??). The baker on the red team was a celiac so felt right at home. The baker...
  19. Ye Gods!! I would have asked them, "What on earth are they teaching you people in medical school??" "Who are these people who are so ignorant??"
  20. I just made these cookes today and hubs said they are the best I have made. I looked through the recipes here on celiac.com and found these, but they used Pamela's baking mix, which I don't have down here (I hate recipes that use a specific baking mix although I know it makes it easier for those to whom it is available ). Anyway, here is what I did: ...
  21. When we lived in Wurzburg, K-town was always known as "the town without pity"
  22. I'm sorry you came up negative, and it's quite okay to whine here. We do it all the time when we are not wining!! Welcome to the board and the frustration of no diagnosis. Yes, the next thing to do is to pretend that your diagnosis was positive and to go strictly gluten free for a good three months. You may be what some refer to as "merely" gluten intolerant...
  23. This board has too many levels of complexity that I DON'T KNOW ABOUT
  24. Oh, Marilyn, I can't believe they did that to you!. Yes, I am a strong believer in getting copies of EVERYTHING! I don't trust anyone I say it over and over - get copies of ALL your test results. If not your own pilot, you need to at least be in the cockpit and make sure the pilot is awake I hope your treatment has not suffered too badly with this...
