ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi MsLee. Welcome to the thread. The GAPS diet is the SCD in essence. I think you need to take things a bit more gently. A damaged gut cannot cope with too much to start with. Dairy is difficult for a lot as damaged villi cannot produce the lactase needed for its digestion. It is best to start at the beginning and work through - even though... -
Many who are gluten intolerant can't digest carbs very well at all, including sugar. Because of gut damage they appear to lack the enzymes needed. Sometimes it can be due to a lack of or dilution of stomach acid. If the stomach cannot produce enough acid then enzyme production is not triggered properly for carb digestion further down in the duodenum...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Just to say if any of the Mods are reading this - thanks guys for adding the bit about the SCD to the description details of the Other Food Intolerances section - that is great, but the SCD thread has actually disappeared! It is coming up on the 'last post info' in the main index, but is not in the 'Other Food' index. Where oh where has it gone??? -

Ooh, ooh, ooh, Rinne - can you please post your recipe for the Coffee Hazelnut Ice cream on the Recipe thread - Pleeeeease!!! -
Sadly, many don't recover just on gluten-free alone. A lot have difficulty digesting carbohydrates and dairy too, but the fact that you are drinking raw milk is much better as it contains live enzymes and bacteria that aid in its digestion (wish I could get a source!!). Pasteurised milk is 'dead' and contributes little to the body - often actually draining...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Denial is one of the biggest problems for anyone who has to change their diet for health reasons - mainly I think because, unlike a weight-loss diet, the choice and control is taken away from them. There are quite a few of us on here who are already following the Specific Carb Diet and really benefitting from it (there is a thread on this section) as it... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hear, hear - so many of these posts are from desperate people. We all came here looking for help - I for one am just so incredibly grateful that I found it. It wasn't the route I expected on this forum and I am very grateful for that open-mindedness too. So many of these sites are so blinkered - this is OUR disease and no one else is allowed... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Worse On gluten-free Diet
AliB replied to finlayson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would say, be careful of oats intially. I carried on eating oats after going gluten-free and not getting better and it wasn't until sometime later that I realised that there is a big risk with them of cross-contamination. Unless you can find a source that is guaranteed to not be contaminated with wheat, rye or barley gluten, then I would advise giving... -
ARCHIVED My Acne Just Won't Go Away
AliB replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It may not even be gluten that is doing it. Spots and zits are the body's way of trying to offload toxins. If your system is overloaded with crud then you are bound to get them. There is a lot of rubbish food out there and very sadly some of the gluten-free falls into that category. gluten-free foods are typically very high in carbs and can be very... -
The processing procedure that soy goes through renders it into a substance that is not good for us. Not only that, but unlike the fermented soy products like tofu, tempeh and miso that are pre-soaked, the processing does not remove phytates from the soy. Those who through history used traditional ways of dealing with it obviously knew that it had to...

ARCHIVED Angry Sister-in-law
AliB replied to elspeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Do you get the feeling that gluten-free is not all the answer for her? If she feels the need to talk about her bowel movements, are they still a problem even though she is gluten-free? She may not realise that gluten-free is only the tip of the iceberg for some. Many also have issues with other foods including corn and soy, etc. That is because the... -
A lot (me included) find that gluten-free is not enough. When my digestion finally collapsed I went gluten-free and Dairy free and still that was not enough. I had to go gluten-free immediately as it was the only way I could get relief from the awful pain every time I ate and the raging D and that abated within hours! But there was still little I could...

ARCHIVED You May Already Know About The Mercury In Fillings...
AliB replied to mr. moore's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I imagine you had your tonsils out because they kept getting inflamed? The thing is, the tonsils are a window to the health of the body. Inflamed tonsils are telling you that your body is toxic. Chronically inflamed tonsils are telling you that your body is VERY toxic. Having them removed may stop the inflammation but it does not cure the reason why... -
ARCHIVED Molluscum Bumps/rash Spreading After Going gluten-free
AliB replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If I had a cent for everyone with a yeast problem who has had antibiotics I would be a rich woman! Our kid gets an infection - the first thing we do is pay a visit to the doctor-god and he gives us a course of pills to give them. Great in theory, but in practice what is happening is the pattern is then set for an ever escalating downward spiral of further... -
Just because the Gatorade is ok in your stomach doesn't mean it's ok for your body!!! Freshly squeezed fruit juices and water should be good for your stomach AND your body - world of difference.

ARCHIVED Leaky Gut Causes Gluten Intolerance?
AliB replied to Yoekie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I do think that we have to keep a bit of an open mind about any of these treatments. Although I am sure that many of the health 'experts' have certain things right, none of them have them all right all of the time. We are all different and although there are likely to be similarities there will also be many differences too. Some will follow the SCD and... -
I know I have already said this on the other thread, but will repeat it anyway! I don't have the weight loss problem that you do - quite the opposite, but I did have the gluten/lactose/egg intolerance and typical 'Celiac' stools which is what triggered me into going gluten-free and dairy-free. Whilst it settled some issues - namely the awful stomach...

ARCHIVED Molluscum Bumps/rash Spreading After Going gluten-free
AliB replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is only a theory but I would suspect that removing the gluten is now freeing up the immune system to start working and may well have triggered a temporary increase. Gluten can suppress the immune system. A poor immune system will not have the power to fight attacks that a healthy one would just shake off. Another thing I would suggest, in order... -

AliB replied to mr. moore's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I agree. Dylan you can't just be on a diet for a couple days and expect a response. It doesn't work like that. The body needs time to detox. It could take months or even a year or two to really get the benefit, but any progress, even slow, is better than no progress at all, which is where you are at right now! There are many of us on here who are... -
Yes, I did think about that but then I thought, well I am eating food with fats in it every day, and swallowing it . At least this way I am spitting it out! I don't keep the oil in my mouth for any longer than 10 minutes as that seems to be enough to blend it all well enough. I did read that OP can make fillings fall out and again I thought well,...

ARCHIVED Brain Fog, Irritability, B12, Mercury
AliB replied to Siga's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Something very interesting I picked up on that item is that mercury tends to congregate amongst other places in the hyothalamus, and the Limbic System thought to be the seat of emotions. I was looking into doing a raw food diet, which I sort of started but have shelved a bit at the moment cos the weather is so darn cold - I just don't feel like eating... -

I've always hated cleaning my teeth too. I prefer to floss or 'pick'. I could never stand the 'mintiness' of toothpaste, although I don't mind mints (perhaps subconsciously I was trying to avoid the Lauryl Sulphate!). There's something to be said about cleaning your teeth with a Neem stick (if I could ever get hold of any). Wish it was warm enough here... -

That's funny cos I've never been able to stand really hot drinks - my husband used to moan like mad that he'd make me a drink and I would forget about it (he's used to it now after 32 years!). That was usually because it was too hot and I'd go off and do something and forget about it until it was stone cold. Even now, if I make a hot drink I always fill... -
ARCHIVED Nighttime Leg Cramps
AliB replied to fran641's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Muscle twitches and cramps can also be a sign of low magnesium. I used to pop 3 or 4 of the Homeopathic Mag. Phos when I had that and it would abate, but a magnesium supplement would probably work just as well. Since I have been on the SCD and my body has started re-absorbing from the good food I am now eating I rarely, if ever have any more problems...
