  1. So funny! Glad your family is so good-spirited about your dietary needs.
  2. I threw away my pumpkin pie spice b/c its x-date was 2002 after I used it. Best tasting pumpkin bread I have ever baked. Wish I hadn't thrown it away.
  3. Please let us know how that turns out. I've been contemplating doing the same thing b/c don't want to use my coffee grinder that I use for coffee for flour.
  4. Hum. I'm wondering if the Asian market would have decent brown rice flour or have it at all?
  5. That sounds GREAT! Please post the Featherlight Vinegar Pastry. Hadn't heard of it
  6. I have the cookbook as well. Tried one cake recipe. Didn't like it. Haven't used it since. Maybe I'll try it with the white, too, then. Hope I have better luck.
  7. Some people use Bette Hagman's Featherlite: 1 cup rice flour 1 cup potato starch (not flour) 1 cup tapioca starch/flour 1 Tbsp. potato flour (NOT potato starch) I have seen the recipe with just the first three ingredients without the 1 T. potato flour.
  8. I had to come back on and add: my friend just called and asked if I like gluten-free brownies. She's going to bake them for me/everyone for Thanksgiving tomorrow at her house :)My family lives in another state, but I can just imagine what that would be like on Thanksgiving trying to eat with my mom, lol. My prayers go out to anyone in a similar situation...
  9. I understand completely The last time I visited my mother, who knows I've eaten gluten-free for years, she offered me a snack: first, whole wheat Triscuits, then saltines, then said we'd go to a fast food place and get a biscuit (???? I've never been there, never plan to go, and don't even eat biscuits), then brought out an avocado which I happily accepted...
  10. I'm sorry, what is AP? Also, do you buy all of your flour from King Arthur? Where do you buy it? THANKS!
  11. That's why I'm a little reluctant to try one of her gluten-free recipes. But, who knows? Her consultant who came up with the recipe could be really good.
  12. That's what I suspected, lol!!!! She's adding her contributions now b/c one of her advisors probably told her we aren't going away!!!!!
  13. Martha Stewart just tweeted this pumpkin pie recipe. If anyone tries it, please let us know how you liked it Open Original Shared Link
  14. If you like buckwheat, you might like Karina's apple cake. I made it last year and it was incredibly delicious! Open Original Shared Link
  15. So, are you saying to use almond meal when a recipe calls for almond flour?
  16. Thank you! Do brands differ a lot at the Asian mkts or are they all about the same? I'm not sure how to know which brands are better at ethnic mkts.
  17. Thanks! What is a good thing to use almond meal for? I just bought it.
  18. I printed off Gluten-free Girl's Irish Soda Bread recipe and wondered if it would make sense to use almond meal (I hope that is the same as almond flour?)in place of sweet rice flour (Whole Foods was out of it yesterday). I am hoping to make it for our 12th anniversary on Sunday along with lamb and fixings. Here's the recipe: Open Original Shared Link
  19. You could have gotten hold of a bad batch of tapioca flour if it's Bob's Red Mill. I posted the phone number on another thread about tapioca after taste. They will send you a replacement if that is the case. They will ask you for the lot number printed on the side with the expiration date.
  20. Got my two replacement tapiocas last week. Thanks Bob's Red Mill!
  21. Bob's Red Mill acknowledged the problem when I called, says they have a new supplier for tapioca and are sending me 2 replacement packages. Francesca said it was fine to pass along their phone number: 1-800-349-2173 Also, she said to even call them if we need help with recipes. I may take them up on that
  22. Exactly. It is a metalic or aspriny taste. Awful.
  23. This is so wierd. I just came here to ask people on this forum the same question and got my question answered. Yes, I just went downstairs and tasted the Bob's Red Mill Tapioca Starch and THAT is it! I'm taking mine back to Whole Foods and getting another brand. It's a relatively recent bag, too, and I know my previous bags of Tapioca did not taste that way...
  24. Maybe if you gave it another name? I had a surprise birthday party for my husband last Oct. and the chicken chili (white chili) was the clear favorite. Two of our friends have even mentioned it as their favorite within the past two weeks.
