    ARCHIVED Eating Out

I too love Bonefish Grill! I tried it in Virginia while on vacation and was in heaven over the flourless brownie! Found out I have one near me in Denver
  2. Hello, sorry your little girl is going through this, doctors can be so narrow minded when it comes to tests. I just wanted to add that it can take time for the diarrhea to completely stop since she will be healing and the dairy and soy could slow her down with that if she's sensitive to them. Hugs to your little one.
  3. Very few enchilada sauces are wheat free. I love enchilada's and have been making them at home with McCormicks enchilada seasoning mix (you add tomato sauce to it) and its definately gluten free! If you really enjoy this restaurant you could call and ask if they thicken their sauce with wheat flour and if they do then you have your answer. Having D before...
  4. I don't have an explanation either but I too feel glutened when on my period. The big D mostly but I've been gluten free for 3 1/2 months and during all my periods I feel glutened. Maybe next month will be better? At least that's what I keep telling myself Hope yours gets better too!
  5. I found a research study where prozac was inserted in guinea pig colons and it literally shot through their system! If they were given too much, they had severe constipation. This was a research study for ibs, so they explained that this could be why some people have diarreah with prozac. I only take 10 mg so not even full dose. As momma goose said, it...
  6. You are so right. I am one of those people that wear themselves out trying to be a detective on everything. We did have the stomach flu here and I only had the D instead of vomiting too like everyone else so it could be that slowly working out of my system. I was also worrying about my rum and diet cokes, I have a couple on most nights or my red wine....
  7. Others with more experience will chime in but to me a positive blood test means you do have active celiac because the antibodies are able to get into your blood stream which happens when you have damaged villa. I also have geographic tongue and it gets worse when I have gluten and citrus fruits especially pineapple. Didn't connect the geo tongue with gluten...
  8. Sorry you got so sick Ursa. We had it at our house too and my husband was the one that got it very violently like you. He's not celiac but is hypothyroid. Glad you got to see grandkids though!
  9. My doctor recently prescribed 10 mg for my perimenopause symptoms. It's been about 2 months but I've noticed I have more D days than usual so I rack my brain to figure out what I could have had that had hidden gluten etc. Could it be possibly the Prozac? It does say that it can cause diarreah for some people. I don't have it everyday but more often than...
  10. [Okay, so apparently i am nto so good at this. Thing is tho, I was eating that cereal every morning - Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs.....and Monday I was a little naseaus, then Tues and Wed more ... the big C ( with dizziness and light headedness ), and then Thursday morning is when the big D happened.....is this a normal reaction when being glutened??
  11. Another thought, I was glutened by diamond nut thins. I know the box says gluten free but it also says processed in same facility as wheat etc. I am very sensitive and these got me. Don't know if this is the same brand you are using? Just a thought. Hope you feel better soon!
  12. So sorry your going through this. I too learned the hard way that airport food is a big no no. This last time, I was prepared with my own gluten free stuff and did much better. Don't beat yourself up so much, we all make mistakes, especially in the beginning. I used to also not want to look different when eating out but after several miserable mishaps...
  13. I also live in Colorado Springs, sounds like your finding some good choices. I heard that Mimi's Cafe is also gluten free friendly but haven't gone there yet. Personally I prefer the fine dining restaurants because the chef's make all food in house and proudly accomodate you. So if you feel like endulging here are my favorites. Colorado Springs Walters...
  14. Hi Susie, I didn't take you as defensive at all, just a loving sister. I am not familiar with barley max product but early in my trying to go gluten free I had a rice krispie bar thinking it was safe. I didn't know about the hidden barley in rice krispies and reacted a few hours later so it told me I had problems with barley as well. In the beginning...
  15. Glad you were able to figure it out. Hope you are feeling better and thanks for the heads up. I'm always tempted to try those chickens because they look so yummy and are convenient, now I won't give it a thought!
  16. Just wanted to say hi, I live in Colorado Springs. Your post is reminding me of the great places to eat that are only an hours drive for me! We have nice restaurants down here as well!
  17. Was your sister gluten free prior to testing? This would definately cause a false negative. The tests are definately not 100%. If she would have gotten a positive blood test yes, its accurate but I read that a negative result is only 70% accurate. There are so many variables. I had a negative blood test (only one point below positive) but was already...
  18. I have Bette Hagman's recipe's and haven't done the garfava flour for the same reason, I'm worried it will taste bad and its not cheap to buy. I do like the new feather light mix. I'm at work but I believe its just white rice flour, tapioca flour, and potato flour (not starch) and something else but not potato flour. I've also made her French bread/pizza...
  19. Amanda, Just wanted to say welcome to the board and congratulations for your drug addiction recovery. My daughter who is almost 20 is also recovering so I know how hard that is. Your body has been through alot with the drugs plus dealing with celiac. It may take your body a little more time to heal. Keep a daily food journal so you can keep track...
  20. Thanks Tim and Lisa, I don't have a trader Joes in Colorado so that will be neat to go to one. I'm still in the early stages Tim and am learning from alot of little mistakes but each day gets better. Carrabas accidently brought me a salad with croutons on it, the server caught it right a way and brought me another one
  21. That's nuts! Also, no personal hygene during that 2 years!
  22. My husband, daughter, and I are spending Easter week in Williamsburg. We are staying in a friends timeshare that has a full kitchen so we can do our own cooking too but need to know where to shop for gluten free items. I plan to take a little with me on the plane. We are also going to Busch Gardens and they already told me I can bring my own food, but...
  23. I agree with all the above and also its best to go to a restaurant during their less busy times so they can pay more attention and cc will be less likely.
  24. Yes, I agree that there isn't a good reason to do this. Bakers Joy is usually used for the Pantry Chef for Dessert items so again if ordering a dessert make sure they don't use bakers joy. Don't know of anymore tricks but can suggest a couple of things. Chefs are always proud of their kitchens and their food, always ask for them if you can or call ahead...
