  1. I so totally agree with you! I buy the food for life soft taco's in the freezer section and although they have a great flavor, they always crack on me when I try to eat these as a soft taco! I've been told by the counter person at the health store that I would need to steam them but haven't tried that yet. I haven't made homemade one's yet but it sounds...
  2. 10 minutes in the food store and I walked away very happy. Package of lunch meat ($0.53) and a small ag of Dole iceberg lettuce ($1.29) is a main dish lunch, a Zone perfect bar, some sliced apples, and some microwave popcorn should keep me satisfied in the air!!
  3. After you heal, your glutening symptoms may become milder but you are still doing damage to your intestines. After repeated exposures you will probably go back to square one again. If you really want to be sure, you will have to eat gluten for a couple of months to MAYBE get a positive blood test. You should listen to your body, the stomach pains and headaches...
  4. Crazy doctors! A positive biopsy is considered the gold standard for diagnosing celiac whereas the blood test has alot of false negatives (30%). Welcome to the forum Kathleen!
  5. I was just about to post that for me it was the nonfat milk powder but I see you figured it out! Your right, one glass of 2% milk has about 11 grams of lactose and the nonfat milk powder about 70! I'm glad that you contacted whole foods because I am sure they can substitute a nondairy powder such as almond meal etc. It would be nice because their stuff...
  6. Turtles are indeed yummy! Glad you found some that you can eat!
  7. I did read that gelatin can come from fish as well. I haven't noticed that marshmellows contain gelatin but never thought about it before
  8. Thanks Rachel, I was hoping you would respond! I've never been able to handle MSG. I would eat at a chinese restaurant and almost not making it home in time if you catch my drift. I do think now after reading your post that it could be the gelatin after all, didn't know it meant msg just thought it acted like msg but I will test it out to be sure! Thank...
  9. just wanted to clarify that my chef's did know it was beef originated because it a no no with a vegan dish but most didnt know how it was extracted etc. Not personally attacking you home based mom but ignorance is a strong word for me
  10. I have a problem with Prego and not Classico. Only Prego's traditional style is supposed to be totally gluten free and other flavors only in certain size jars (geeez lets keep making things harder!). Anyway its the prego's traditional size that made me sick so I switched to Classico (a little too chunky for me) and I haven't reacted yet. I'm not saying...
  11. I was reading in wednesday's food section of the gazette that the pikes peak celiac organization is going to be meeting once a month at a different restaurant. My paper got thrown away but my husband THINKS he remembers June 16th at Gertrude's. You can call Gertrude's to see what info they have on how to reserve etc. if any of you colorado springs gals...
  12. Okay, I had a horrible D reaction that lasted all day yesterday from the home made pizza I made Monday night. I have pizza every week and normally use a frozen gluten free local brand that never gives me problems. Whole foods pizza crust gives me problems with D. So what I did was took out a piece of paper and put the ingredients to all 3 crusts in seperate...
  13. Happy Birthday Ursa! Spent the day gardening yesterday so didn't see the thread until today. It's so nice that your family finally made an effort for your birthday, enjoy your new toy!
  14. The ones in my grocery store say "not a gluten free product contains barley enzyme" this is the one with the heart on the front and the other one states gluten free. I decided to change to almond milk but always read cartons to be sure of any product since they will sometimes change ingredients or suppliers even if always gluten free before.
  15. Hi Vicky, I live in the south broadmoor bluff area. PM me anytime as well!
  16. I ate these when I lived in Wisconsin and was doing a low carb diet (thats when I started to feel better). They are very delicious, Thanks for the reminder I will look into finding them again!
  17. Hi Scotty I've found through keeping a food journal that dairy was a problem for me but only when I ate heavy cheese sauces such as gluten free alfredo, cheesy enchilada's, or drank a glass of regular milk. I would always have bad gas and a bloaty stomache a couple hours later followed by D the next morning. I have found that I can tolerate hard cheeses...
  18. Sorry I didn't answer you sooner Jen, I worked very late last night. Sarah answered beautifully. Those tests can be so unreliable and your own body is your best indicator of food allergies. I kept a food diary for over 4 months to see exactly what was bothering me. This is how I found out that I was slightly bothered by dairy. I can eat small amounts...
  19. I will add also: If you are still in the process of testing such as blood work and endoscopy, you HAVE to continue to eat gluten. Even 3 days without gluten can give you a false negative on blood work. Read labels everytime you buy a product even if gluten free before, manufactures will sometimes change their ingredients or get their ingredients from...
  20. Hello, I don't get sick but do feel bloated and gassy from bardstale, redbridge, and after two strongbow's (hard apple cider). I thought it was the carbonation but I can drink a couple of rum and cokes with no problems so its something else? I too miss beer especially Miller Lite at the baseball games!
  21. Hi Chris, Don't know if the same could be for you but I can't eat whole foods gluten free pizza crusts because of the number one ingredient non-fat dairy milk powder. I can handle cheeses and can eat mozzerella on other crusts that don't contain the dairy powder. Mozzerella cheese has about 2 grams of lactose where a cup of nonfat milk powder has ...
  22. Ciroc (i think i'm spelling that right) is a vodka made from grapes and very tasty; however pretty pricey.
  23. I totally agree with this post. If you don't have celiac and can ingest occasional gluten without problems then that would be a decision only you can make. For me, my body won't let me anymore. I was gluten lite for a couple of months before totally going gluten free. Once I removed all gluten (I used to just not eat obvious gluten such as bread and pasta...
