  1. I think this post is misleading, and especially your claim that "there is often gluten in toothpaste". Can you give any examples of brands of USA toothpaste that contain gluten? I've heard of some foreign examples. We've done a couple of articles on this topic which are below, and I just don't want to create any undue worries for anyone who might...
  2. They are naturally gluten-free, but not labelled gluten-free, and since they also make a product called "Pound Plus Milk Chocolate Bar with Caramel, Pretzel, Sea Salt," there is the possibility of cross-contamination if they are made in a shared facility, and especially if they are made on shared equipment. https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp...
  3. I think the inside of the microwave would have to be very dirty for you to have to worry about your food getting contaminated by gluten in it. A good cleaning inside it should eliminate any concerns.
  4. I agree. Also, all, or nearly all, USA toothpaste brands are gluten-free, and I've only heard of gluten being an issue in some foreign brands. If anyone knows of a USA brand that is not safe please correct me here.
  5. I also don't think you should need to worry about gluten in clean cups at work.
  6. Welcome to the forum! As @trents mentioned it sounds like at the least you have NCGS, and possibly celiac disease. Hopefully the diet will help with your lupus symptoms as well, and this article summary is older, but may be helpful to you:
  7. Celiac.com 03/28/2023 - Second Nature Brands of Madison Heights, MI, is recalling its 4-ounce packages of Gluten Free Reese’s Pieces Brownie Brittle because they may contain undeclared wheat. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The r...
  8. The best science is always done using a single case report...like yours, right? 😉
  9. The manufacturer has tagged it gluten-free on their web site: https://www.hersheyland.com/products/rolo-creamy-caramels-in-rich-chocolate-candy-1-7-oz-roll.html
  10. If you plan to buy any food at markets Trader Joe's has a big selection of gluten-free items, including bagels, buns, bread, etc.
  11. One thing to consider before going gluten-free is that you can only be tested for celiac disease when you are eating gluten daily for ~6-8 weeks. If you know that gluten causes you serious issues then you may decide to bypass such testing. This article may be helpful:
  12. Two packs of Franz GF bread can be found at many Costcos which are under $10 for 2 loaves.
  13. I agree with @trents here and just wanted to add that it may also be a good idea to check in with his school to be sure he isn't getting any gluten in his food, or sharing food with friends.
  14. Most people with celiac disease don't need to worry about this, but you didn't describe how sensitive you are.
  15. It would be best to ask your doctor about this, but @ravenwoodglass definitely knows a lot about such things, so it is likely that an MRI would reveal gluten-related brain issues, including calcifications in certain areas, which have been associated with celiac disease.
  16. You are not the only person who feels this way, and a quick search of our forum for "inhaling" shows many others who are concerned about this: https://www.celiac.com/search/?&q=inhaling&type=forums_topic&search_and_or=and While I think any risk from, for example the scent of baking wheat bread, would be incredibly low, there may be risks...
  17. Certainly you should listen to your doctor on this, but just keep in mind that any negative results can't be trusted. It is possible there could still be enough damage to diagnose celiac disease.
  18. If @Jane07 would like to proceed with the endoscopy it would be best to delay it and do a gluten challenge. Why? Because what if she proceeds with it while being gluten-free and the doctor tells her that her results are negative, no celiac disease, and you can keep eating gluten? That is the normal outcome from a negative celiac disease biopsy. Such a result...
  19. If you're not willing to go back on gluten for this test, then you likely have your answer already anyway, right? You should let your doctor know that you've been gluten-free since early February to see if they still want to do the procedure (I'm not sure why they would still want to proceed with it, given that the results would be highly suspect). You could...
  20. I think the only way for you to eliminate gluten as the culprit for all of the issues you're having would be to be 100% gluten-free for several months or longer. Only then will you know for sure how it might be affecting you.
  21. I don't think you should be worried, but are you super sensitive? If so, and you are concerned, you could wear a covid-type mask, which should filter anything out. You should probably wash your hands often.
  22. Wine is gluten-free, so unless you have other issues, for example sulphate sensitivity, then you should have no issues:
  23. Yes, if you are doing the endoscopy to detect possible celiac disease then you should be eating at least two slices of wheat bread daily for at least 2 weeks before the procedure, otherwise you may get false-negative results. I would not worry about the procedure itself, as most people have no issues with it, and don't even remember it.
  24. This is possible, and some celiacs actually go into remission after years on a gluten-free diet, and if they start eating gluten again it can take some months or even years for the damage to return. I also eat in restaurants, and the point I was trying to make is that there now may be a safer way to do this using AN-PEP enzymes, so you may be able to mitigate...
