  1. The USA military currently rejects people with celiac disease who want to serve their country. The history of NASA's astronaut recruitment, covering at least the 1950's - 1990's, has been heavily dominated by those who also served in the military. To this day US military veterans probably still make up a high percentage of astronauts, so if you only consider...
  2. I think it's natural to look back at negative health events that happen after you get some sort of a vaccine, and then blame those health issues on getting this or that vaccine (this happened with parents of kids with autism, but large studies were done which show no such correlation between vaccines and autism, yet many people still believe in such a correlation...
  3. It may not be necessary, but for many with celiac disease, especially this soon after his diagnosis, it may help relieve any ongoing symptoms that he has. I had to cut all dairy out at the time of my diagnosis, along with a few other things, for at least a year before my gut healed enough to be able to process them again. I was able to add them back to my...
  4. Ok, and??? This study does not in ANY way conclude that someone should not get a covid vaccine:
  5. I am on several email lists for new research on covid-19, including The New England Journal of Medicine's. I read new info about it daily. I believe you mean the totally debunked VAERS report claims that are discussed here: https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-covid19-vaers/fact-check-vaers-data-does-not-prove-over-2000-deaths-due-to-covid-19...
  6. I am passing on the CDC's advice, and I don't need "authority" to do so: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/your-vaccination.html Get vaccinated if you haven't. This pandemic will continue until we reach a much higher percentage level of vaccinated people, and is running rampant in areas where the vaccination rate is low.
  7. Celiac.com 09/14/2021 - If you're looking for an easy way to turn out a tasty gluten-free dish that make a special meal, coconut curries are a great way to go, and this Thai-style coconut curry chicken is an excellent choice. Ingredients...
  8. This article should be helpful:
  9. Making a post here is a good place to begin. I looked up the doctor you mentioned, and he seems well qualified. Does he have a practice near you?
  10. This is excellent advice! I too have been under mandatory evacuation several times in the last 5 years due to the wild fires here in Santa Rosa, CA. Our family has been stuck in our house for a week or more each time, unable to leave or go shopping, get deliveries, etc., so we have some idea of how important this is. We also keep a good amount of canned...
  11. I've never heard of them, and am not sure what these results mean. Did they run some sort of test on you? Are these the probiotics that they recommend for you? How did they determine this?
  12. This recipe looks great...thank you for sharing it Vonnie!
  13. @Liz Barnard, be sure to always take the aspirin with food as it can cause stomach/intestinal bleeding and stomach upset in some people. I believe taking it with food reduces the risks such issues. Also, due to my family history, my doctor told me to take fish oil capsules daily, so I use the Kirkland brand from Costco. This is in addition to a low...
  14. It's important to keep in mind that not every person with celiac disease has the same level of sensitivity, or the same reaction to the same level of gluten. Some people are super sensitive and may have dermatitis herpetiformis (very itchy skin blisters) that can last for weeks and be triggered by tiny amount of gluten, while others may not notice anything...
  15. It's possible that a gluten-free diet my help his acne improve, as many celiacs have reported this over the years.
  16. The Instapot is safe and easy to use. It's got lots of electronic settings for different things you might cook. We were skeptical too, but got one as a gift (they are popular in Asia, and my wife is from Taiwan), and we love it. We also got one for my son who's going to college now, and he uses it to cook a pot of food which can last him a few days.
  17. Celiac.com 09/13/2021 - Gut damage is slow to heal in many patients with celiac disease. There has been some indication that budesonide together with a gluten-free diet can speed small bowel healing and improve symptoms improvement in...
  18. Just FYI: This article is from 2007, and we are republishing all of our original Journal of Gluten Sensitivity articles here, as some may be helpful. This was originally a paper publication: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/journal-of-gluten-sensitivity/
  19. You may want to try using an Instapot, which seems to be the the craze now, and in my mind the modern version of a crock pot--it uses pressure and cooks things much faster, rather than slower. We make soups, stews, etc., using it in ~20% of the time it would normally take.
  20. Although it would have been ideal to have at least gotten a blood test while you were still eating gluten (your first doctor should have done this), at this point given your DH and other symptoms I agree that there may be no benefit to doing a gluten challenge for a formal diagnosis. Your new doctor may want to call it non-celiac gluten sensitivity, but the...
  21. The enzymes that I have seen the most research on have included AN-PEP, which has been used for decades in the brewing industry to clarify beer. there are several brands that include this, and GliadinX is the first.
  22. Are you sorry you were born because of your celiac disease? I may have felt like that at some point before I was diagnosed, but not after. Also, there are promising new treatments on the horizon that may one day eliminate the need for a gluten-free diet (which isn’t so bad even if this doesn’t happen):
  23. I would not rule this out as a possible side-effect, but it’s way too little info to say for sure. I recommend getting screened for celiac disease to be sure.
