  1. My temporary food intolerance was caused by celiac disease damage, and went away as my gut healed. Once you have leaky gut all sort of immune reactions can occur as different proteins pass into your system, rather than get properly digested.
  2. Welcome to the forum! So if you were diagnosed with celiac disease as a teenager you still have celiac disease, it is a lifelong disease that doesn't go away. It goes into remission when you are on a gluten-free diet, and if you go off it, the disease will return, as happened in your case. A breath test would not be how to diagnose celiac disease...
  3. Celiac.com 08/10/2020 - Small bowel cancers are on the rise. Research has shown some possible connections with celiac disease, but there have not been any detailed large group studies. To better understand the connections between celiac...
  4. It's your call here, as it sounds like you would not touch gluten again with a 10 foot pole, not matter what the genetic test results show. You may want to do it to help encourage your other family members to get tested, should your results be positive. When I had my genetic tests done it turned out that I am positive for both DQ2 and DQ8, and I got...
  5. I've never heard that Gatorade is not gluten-free, or could somehow be contaminated with wheat. Please provide a source for this info.
  6. I had temporary food intolerance issues after my diagnosis that included chicken eggs (I could eat duck eggs), tomatoes, corn, and dairy/cow's milk (I could each sheep's milk). These went away about two years after I began a gluten-free diet, but I discovered them by keeping a food diary. I recommend that you do this for a while to find foods that may be...
  7. I think she means diverticulitis, which is fairly common. It can be very painful when you have flare ups, and if it is causing you pain it's important for you to consult with a gastroenterologist to see what is going on.
  8. After I got diagnosed I had several temporary food intolerance issues, including casein/cow's milk, corn, chicken eggs, tomatoes, etc. They mostly went away after a couple of years on a GF diet, but in the meantime I was able to eat duck eggs. You can get duck eggs at farmer's markets, and/or Asian markets (be sure to check and get fresh duck eggs, and not...
  9. I see this on this site: “IS APEROL GLUTEN FREE? Yes, Aperol is gluten free and suitable for coeliacs. It does not contain any cereals containing gluten, nor is it manufactured on any shared equipment.“ https://www.aperolspritzsocials.com/articles/nutritional-information/
  10. I would say probably, but I could not tell for sure when looking at their site which says it’s a “fortified wine.” Wine is gluten-free, and their site says: “An infusion of ingredients including oranges, herbs and roots which make a perfectly balanced combination.” https://www.aperol.com/en-us/the-world-of-aperol/aperol-product-credentials To be...
  11. You’re correct that the endoscopy could not accurately rule out celiac disease if you had been gluten-free in the months before it was done, and your gastro should have known this...did you tell them you were gluten-free beforehand? Did they even ask? From you description you could have gluten sensitivity, but the proper way to rule out celiac disease w...
  12. Dining out is a common source of gluten contamination, and this article may be helpful:
  13. Hi Carla, You can go into your account settings to update it: https://www.celiac.com/settings/email/
  14. It should be available. There are many companies that offer genetic testing that include celiac disease risk tests, including 23 and Me: https://www.23andme.com/ I would verify this before ordering it. Your doctor should be able to order this as well.
  15. This looks like it would do the job. Whey is a dairy product so be sure that you don't have issues with casein before buying it.
  16. Celiac.com 08/07/2020 - Everyone knows that some people react to the food ingredient monosodium glutamate (MSG). Did you know that the name of monosodium glutamate (MSG), is a trade name for sodium hydrogen glutamate? Did you know that...
  17. My thought is that it could be time to get a fasting blood sugar test, and explore the possibility of diabetes. Another thought is that many with celiac disease also have thyroid issues, so perhaps discuss your symptoms with your doctor who may order tests to check for these.
  18. This thread is an update on this topic...get your pneumococcal vaccine!
  19. Celiac.com 08/06/2020 - The global pandemic of Covid, caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV2, has caused serious damage to public health and the economy. However, some of the greatest effects may be mental and emotional. Pandemic response measures...
  20. The products I referred to were European, and needed to comply with USA labeling standards before they could be imported. The expense of doing this was always a factor for companies when deciding whether or not to export their products to the USA. There is a whole industry around doing this, law firms that specialize in label compliance, import companies...
