ARCHIVED I've Just Been Diagnosed
Canadian Karen replied to aimee-in-ok's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Floridanative, Did you print out the delphi list for shopping? I found that was a godsend for me, especially since it is in convenient categories so you can find things really quickly (which is especially important when I am in the middle of an aisle with my four kids, having to read ingredients!!!! LOL! ) Hugs. Karen -
ARCHIVED Nervous About Endoscopy
Canadian Karen replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It amazes me sometimes that the doctors really have no clue how it feels to be sitting at home waiting patiently for results, expecting the worst usually. I realize how busy they can be, but can't they devise some system for allowing their assistants/secretaries to give out results that aren't "terminal"? I can understand if someone was getting results... -
Great advice about the "Dangerous Grains", MSFL, you will get lots of great info there to help you back to health. As for people choosing to be judgemental, I go by this philosophy. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, deserves the benefit of the doubt and my compassion and understanding until proven otherwise. If ever it turns out that it was someone was...

ARCHIVED Glutened!
Canadian Karen replied to rache's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree about the Pepto Bismol. It is what helps me along with drinking lots of water. One thing I want to mention, and it doesn't take as great, but I make sure the water is not too cold, as that seems to give a "shock" to my gut as it hits down there. How does your body respond when you get glutened? Diarrhea? Immodium help for that apparently, but... -
I am so glad you posted to give us an update. It's too bad the friend's brother couldn't have been more help to you. Have you given any thought to trying to add potatoes to your diet? Potatoes are my safe food, the only one that doesn't hurt me when I am in pain...... Keep us updated....... Karen

ARCHIVED How Were You Diagnosed?
Canadian Karen replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Diagnosed twice here actually. First time, in my early 20's, after over a year of diarrhea, doubled over in pain, hospitalizations, etc. Dr. diagnosed celiac disease. Then, after almost 2 years on the gluten-free diet with no response, he started the "Okay, maybe it IBS, then maybe its Crohn's",and alas, the diagnosis roller coaster began. Then, about... -
I think what you do, and I am testing this as I go, is you click on the "A" that is underlined beside the B(Bold) I(Italics) U(Underline) S(Strikethrough) and then type what want. At the end, click on the "A" again, and that will be the end the coloured text Let's see if it works...... Yep, I did preview, and it worked...... Oh forgot to mention...

ARCHIVED Are Tic-tacs gluten-free?
Canadian Karen replied to sillyyak's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well........ okay......... this DOES seem to be my area of expertise, so: I remember seeing somewhere that Tic Tac's are NOT GLUTEN FREE. Here is a list of, ahem, mints that are okay (note: list is in alphabetical order and in NO WAY indicates personal preference): Altoids (Kraft) (Altoids.com) (800-543-5335) (vw=2004) (Open Original Shared... -
Hi MSFL: How did the visit go last night with your friend's brother who is a doctor? Hope it went well..... I have heard quite often actually about people doing a round of steriods to get things under control and I have heard many positive things about this treatment. Perhaps it could be an option for you in order to avoid incurring any additional...

Canadian Karen replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks Judy! It's been a rough week, you have no idea how much I needed to hear that!!! My complexion does seem to be a bit metallic lately though, don't ya think? Sun is finally coming out up here too, after weeks of drizzle, rain, snow, the usual S.A.D. fuellers. I think I might go for a nice long, relaxing walk myself....... Hugs! Karen -
ARCHIVED Alberto Scam
Canadian Karen replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Hi Frenchiemama, If you click on anyone's name, it will bring you into their profile where there is the option to PM them or e-mail them. Some have e-mail options, others don't. If you go into your control panel, click on the left at "E-mail settings" That will bring you to "Privacy Settings". There then are two boxes, the first one giving you the option... -
Hi MSFL: I don't know what the social safety net is like down in Florida, but is there a shelter you can go to that has resources to get you some social assistance and help you find subsidized housing? You need to do what you have to to make sure you don't take steps backwards (ie losing this job due to not having any place to sleep, etc.) Perhaps the...

ARCHIVED The Gluten Free Bible?
Canadian Karen replied to ebrbetty's topic in Publications & Publicity
There was a discussion not long ago about this book where alot of members thought there was some advice in the book that wasn't appropriate (if memory serves, something like it's okay to take the stuff out of a regular sandwich and eat the stuff and just leave the bread, among many other things.....) It wasn't well received here, anyway..... Karen -
I would think you are okay with whom you are seeing. The only reason I got referred to this guy is because the GI doctor who diagnosed me with celiac in the first place had him as his professor. So when I turned out to be non-responsive to the gluten-free diet, this professor down at St. Mike's saw me as a favour to the other GI. The professor was the...

I was taking my regular multi-vitamin AND three Jamieson Elemental Potency Iron (50 mg) per day. Iron still plummetting (although she wouldn't tell me over the phone). This is my family doctor, who, co-ordinated with the specialist down at St. Mike's, my family dr is in charge of monitoring my thyroid and iron, etc., while the GI specialist down at St...

Glad to help! Karen -
The lack of energy I am VERY familiar with..... There are some days where I can barely get back up off the couch if I sit down because I just feel soooo exhausted. I was a the dr. this week for a follow-up. She is monitoring my iron because, as usual, it is low. She took the blood to test the level. Got a call yesterday that my iron is plummetting...

ARCHIVED Would You Cure Yourself If You Could....
Canadian Karen replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would love to take a pill just once, go out and have an absolute feast at a Szhecuan Chinese Food restaurant, then go back to gluten-free the next day. Lord, I would almost cut off my left arm just to be able to have my old chinese food feasts...... Karen
