ARCHIVED Happy Happy Shopping Time
Canadian Karen replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Rachel: You should print out a copy of the following article and bring it into the store you work at: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-15105168885.1f Maybe that will change their minds..... Hugs. Karen -
I hope you have better luck with having hubby go for the "snip" than I did! Shortly after we were married, Terry got really bad kidney stones. He was in the hospital for two weeks, they were giving him meds and, believe it or not, BEER!, every day trying to get rid of them. They wouldn't budge, so they had to "go in" and crush them with a claw. (I can...

ARCHIVED Post gluten-free Symptoms...
Canadian Karen replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe going gluten free has thrown your thyroid out of whack. I can remember when I first went gluten-free, it threw my thyroid for a loop. My doctor had to adjust my thyroid meds about three times before we got things right...... I would maybe get your thyroid checked to make sure that's okay..... Karen -

ARCHIVED Casein Intolerant Too, But What Does That Mean?
Canadian Karen replied to Nancym's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not too up to date on the casien thing, but when I first had celiac disease, I was also lactose intolerant. What happens is that the part of our intestines that break down lactose are on the very tip of the villi that gets destroyed. When you go on the gluten free diet, eventually your villi grow back, and once that happens, you can again tolerate lactose... -
ARCHIVED Very Discouraging Dr Appointment. - Any Reassurance Please
Canadian Karen replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Laura, I also agree with the other posters. If your villi are flattened, it's celiac, no two ways about it. Maybe your doctor just wants to schedule some procedures to pay for his Christmas bills that are going to be coming in....... Ya never know! I would not put myself though all that crap again. Go gluten-free, and once you have the positive... -

ARCHIVED Quitting Your Job To Recover
Canadian Karen replied to angels71's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am still on disability. I went on disability when I couldn't control the celiac or the collagenous colitis. The pain was so intense (I liken it to a constant toothache kind of pain in my abdomen) that literally was driving me insane. Couple that with the fact the the collagenous colitis had me going 20 - 30 times a day, and I was losing my ability to... -
Hi Ameme: Welcome to the board! There are a bunch of really great, helpful and knowledgeable people here who are always willing to help out where we can. You have been gluten free for three years so you got the diet down pretty well, I would assume. I just want to make sure you have also checked all your shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, make-up, vitamins...

Canadian Karen replied to jojoe72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What is Stoli? Karen -
I get them once in a while. Maybe once every month or two. I start off with neon flashes in the shape of a half moon on the side of my eye. Then I know it is coming..... I get really sensitive to light and sound (which can be really hard when you have 4 yr old twin boys running around playing Superman and yelling at the bad guys!!!) The last one I...

ARCHIVED Exactly 3 Years...
Canadian Karen replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You sound so much like me this time of year. From November to February is just brutal for me. Thank God my doctor and myself recognize it as Seasonal Affective Disorder and change medications accordingly. This is the worst time of year in regards to slipping into a deep funk/depression. Please talk to your doctor about it - contrary to what Tom Cruise... -
