  1. Have you found the Strawberry ones that are actually marked gluten-free? I've been buying them for a while around here, but not the ones that are actually labeled gluten-free and made on the dedicated gluten-free equipment. Nobody's heard anything about whether the "new" all-corn Kix are going to continue to be available, or if they were just a fluke...
  2. It sounds like someone at the Celiac.com store needs to start ordering this by the case and reselling them in boxes of 25 or something. :-) Anybody listening?? I'd sure like to try them, but I can't imagine ordering a case of 500 packets or something. I keep dreaming of opening a little all-gluten-free chinese take-out place in my community; I even...
  3. Not necessarily. You might consider talking to your GI doc or allergist if you have one. I have seen at least one lactaid-type product which was a generic that listed something glutenish on the label (among the inactive ingredients). I can't remember what the ingredient was, whether it was something like a malt flavor or actual wheat... it was a long...
  4. This probably won't be very helpful, but I have used the "sample" of hennaforhair's henna to test-color a lock of hair, and I had no difficulties with it; but I am not one to go by because I don't have difficulty with gluten in products I'm not eating. My shampoo has wheat germ in it, and it doesn't bother me. On the other hand, I do have VERY sensitive...
  5. I didn't find the Frichlichs anywhere locally, and I forgot to take my Shenson out of the freezer... so I bought a Kroger brand corned beef brisket at the store today. I called Kroger customer service from my cell while I was at the store and they verified that it is gluten-free. So now I have my St. Patty's Day Dinner simmering on the stove! It's nice...
  6. I just got back from Fred Meyer (aka Kroger) and they did not have any of the new boxes yet. They didn't seem to carry the Strawberry Chex at all, the Rice Chex was out of stock, and the Corn Chex was the old formula. I've been eating the Strawberry Chex without barley malt anyway, but I'll feel a lot more comfortable knowing that it's produced on separate...
  7. Most people who are Celiac seem to do ok with regular shampoos and soaps. My sister has to use all gluten-free cosmetics, but I do fine with regular soaps and things that have wheat germ in the ingredients. Watch for anything you might accidentally ingest, such as lip balms, toothpaste, lipsticks, etc.. And don't drink your shampoo! If you are not getting...
  8. No, it did not say Gluten Free on the box, but there were no even remotely suspicious ingredients listed as far as I could tell. Have you seen the all-corn Kix recently? It's been quite a while since I've seen it. I hope they're still using almonds. That sounds yummy. -Elizabeth
  9. I appreciate that Darigold actually marks their Cottage Cheese as gluten-free. So I buy that brand. I know most Cottage Cheeses are gluten-free, but I like the guesswork taken out of it for me. Call me lazy, I'll admit it! They also mark their chocolate milk and several other dairy products as gluten-free. I don't know how widely available Darigold is...
  10. That's great news! Thanks for the heads-up! I was one of the people who reported on the Kix. I bought two boxes of all-corn oat-free Kix at two different stores (Walmart and Winco) a week or so apart. I haven't seen them since, in any store. I look forward to the Honey-Nut Chex... what nuts are in it? I do hope that eventually we'll see gluten-free...
  11. Are you looking for grab-and-go style "ready to eat" or something you can throw in the Microwave or toaster oven quickly? For snacks on the run, I hard-boil eggs and keep in the fridge. Some beef jerky and similar products are gluten-free. Tillamook Country Smoker marks several products on their website as gluten-free, including their regular beef jerky...
  12. My favorite BBQ sauce is the Trader Joe's Kansas City BBQ sauce. It's gluten-free and it's by far the best BBQ sauce I think I've ever had. Lots of BBQ sauces are safe. I think Kraft's regular stuff is safe, too; just look at the label. Kraft clearly labels any gluten ingredients in their products. I use the Sunbird seasoning mixes to make chinese food...
  13. We don't have a Sam's Club around here. We do have Walmart, though. And Costco. Any idea what brand it was?
  14. I have a package of corned beef in the freezer to make for our traditional St. Patrick's Day dinner. The brand is Shenson. It says it's cured with "water, salt, sodium phosphates, sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrite, flavoring." It doesn't say what the ingredients in the spice packet are. Has anybody perchance checked into this product and found out whether...
  15. Keep in mind that the response from Lindt is from 2007. It's possible that the current 70% bar does not contain malt. I have looked at other Lindt products from time to time (their truffles used to be a favorite of mine) and the labels of the products I've looked at have all clearly stated "barley malt" as an ingredient. I haven't looked at their chocolate...
  16. If you want it to have a long shelf life without going stale, you might think about refrigeration; but I don't think it's necessary if you go through it in a reasonable time. I don't see anything in those ingredients which would spoil quickly at room temperature. I think I've had Earth Balance peanut butter, if they make it. It sounds familiar. If it's...
  17. My guess, then, is that you got something contaminated... perhaps a spatula or a pan. It is only a guess, of course. And it's probably not possible to track it down now. It's also possible to have a gluten-like reaction to something that isn't gluten. Many of us have more than one sensitivity, and in some cases the reactions are nearly identical. My mom...
  18. Almond has a low glycemic index, for one thing. I don't know how it compares to peanut butter, which might be just as good in that area. But a lot of people just like almond butter better. Many people are allergic to peanuts but not to almonds, so that is also a factor. It also just tastes great! I use peanut butter most of the time, but almond butter as...
  19. Tom's of Maine should be available everywhere, in mainstream grocery stores. They make both toothpaste and mouthwash. I don't know exactly what you mean by "mainstream" but unless you mean "not made from natural ingredients" I would consider Tom's to be mainstream.
  20. If you're going to mail-order something from the states, I'd strongly recommend a bread mix rather than a loaf of bread. Or a recipe, if you don't want to order mixes. Gluten-free bread is actually EASIER to make than gluten bread. It's not any harder than making a cake, or cookies. All you really need is a good sturdy mixer. I use a Bosch, which I'm sure...
  21. Trader Joe's updates their list fairly regularly, and it can be downloaded from their website. Open Original Shared Link The Vindaloo isn't on their list, but if you read the ingredients carefully it should tell you. They do not hide gluten in things like "natural flavors." Most of their foods don't have dedicated lines, though, so although they practice...
  22. I accidentally posted this on the OTHER Nestle thread referenced here... I meant to put it in this thread. Sorry for the cross-post. ========================================================= Try Stephen's Gourmet Hot Cocoa. It's labeled "Gluten Free" and it is delicious. And less expensive (oz for oz) than Nestle, at least at my local Winco. ( Open Original...
  23. Try Stephen's Gourmet Hot Cocoa. It's labeled "Gluten Free" and it is delicious. And less expensive (oz for oz) than Nestle, at least at my local Winco. ( Open Original Shared Link ) I don't know about possible cc issues with them, although I have sent an inquiry through their website, and will post when I hear back. I am not a super-sensitive Celiac...
  24. Do you remember which booth? I will have to look for it this summer!! I brought all my own food to the Oregon State Fair last summer. We have one chinese restaurant locally that will carefully prepare things gluten-free if you ask, but it sure limits the options... pretty much anything in a white sauce is OK as long as it's not battered. They have an ...

    ARCHIVED Outback

Outback is one of my favorites now! I did ONCE have to send a caesar salad back to the kitchen because it had crumbs in it -- fortunately I saw them (and fed some to my husband for identification) before taking a bite; but the waiter was VERY nice about it appeared just as horrified as I was that his instructions apparently hadn't been followed (looked...
