  1. Welcome. :)

Yes, it can be hard, but you have come to an awesome place for support and guidance.

The best advice when first dx is to eat simply: plain meats of any kind, eggs, pure spices, veggies of any kind, fruit of any kind and if you want starches things like potatoes, squashes, fresh corn. You can eat rice, but check to make sure the brand you get is gluten free.

You may want to wait a month or so for nuts and seeds while your villi heal. And same goes for dairy. You can then add them in at that time.

Try not to eat a lot of the processed gluten-free foods as they are generally very high glycemic and hard to digest. You need to heal.

Dont try eating right now if you can help it. Once you heal and feel better, we can help you make more choices.

  2. I have been gluten free for nearly 4 months and I got my first real glutening Friday night. I ate some Whole Foods Sushi. No gluten ingredients and I didnt eat the soy sauce of course. Just nori, rice, sesame seeds, carrots, avacado, plain shrimp....that is all. But the next morning I woke with vertigo. It lasted all weekend. And the BLOATING!!! OMG.......bloating was not a big deal before gluten free. But my body sure let me know now!! Today is the first day not looking 6 months pregnant. I was so bloated on Monday night I considered an ER run. But took a bunch of Gax-X and did get a small amount of relief. And "D" 6 or so times a day. And today...a migraine (the symptom that disappeared when I cut out the gluten. My BM's are back to normal today and not bloated. But migraine...ugh! So 5 days....I so hope tomorrow is better and I am done with it!

  3. You know....I dont have this problem. But xylitol will give me "D". I wonder if you ate a little packlet of xylitol if that would help.......It isnt harmful. It is a non-digestible sugar alcohol. A lot of fiber is non-digestible too. So similar concept.

Some foods move through me faster than others. Okra is another one that gets things going.

  4. A lot of people like Jarrow B12. I have used it for years, but am now switching to Pure Encapsulation liquid because I want to avoid the xylitol. I just figured out it gives me "D". Make sure you take this with a complete vitamin B complex or it can throw others off like Folic Acid.

You can take up to 1000 mg daily of magnesium. I like magnesium citrate, but others are also good. I like Solgar. You need to balance it with calcium though. Dont take alone. A ratio of 2:1 or 1:1 is good. And with the calcium you need vitamin D and Boron.

Supplements are about balance or you can create a new problem by fixing just a single nutrient.

  5. Soy Sauce!! That has gluten...and you cannot just remove the crust. Really to know if gluten free will get rid of these for her, you have to go 100% gluten free. If you want a diagnosis of Celiac first, then she has to keep eating gluten and lots of it to get all of the tests.

They sound like seizures to me. I used to get them in the middle of the night. Minus the headache. But all of the other symptoms. Potato is what caused my seizures. When I removed potatoes...I never had one again.

Gluten causes me to have vertigo. My food intolerances aggravate me neurologically. Bummer! But even harder to watch your child suffer. Sorry you have to be going through this.

I also had migraines prior to gluten-free. None since going off.

It is hard. But if you want to know for sure, you have to eliminate all gluten. You cannot risk eating out right now. And you need to clean your house/kitchen to prevent cross contamination with gluten.

  6. So I call "Answers From Nature" and speak to someone. I ask them where they get their "natural" vitamin E, since they claim their products are gluten, wheat, soy and nut free. He said it was a good question, he should know the answer, but he didnt. He would call me back. That was 4 hours ago. I smell a rat!!

SO WHERE DO YOU GET SUPPLEMENTS WITHOUT FILLERS, LUBRICANTS, AND ALLERGENS?????

  7. That is the thing about forums. They are anonymous. We can put any picture we want up. We can be whoever we want to be. You might thing I am a female, but I could really be a male......

Some people who come in here might not have ANY health problems at all. They might just be lonely and finding a group like this could be a godsend to them.

Some might not have any problems with gluten, but since this is such an active forum where MANY topics are discussed, settle right in.

Some will only be here for a short time.

Some get well and move on.

    Some never do.

Maybe I am just too clever. But it seems to me if I wanted to shill. I would come in and be active for a few weeks at least. Posting on different topics. And then start in on my product.......Why be obvious?

    So maybe they arent shills......

It is actually amusing if you think about debating who someone is on a forum. UnkleZach could be another member with a double identity. Two user names. Someone who just likes to debate and watch how people react. Maybe one identity is pro-Glutease and the other is against it.

Or UncleZ could just be like one of us. Was sick. Has gotten better. Found something that helps and wanted to share.

If I find something that works for me, you bet I will tell others. Why wouldnt I? It doesnt mean it will work for you. But I would still tell everyone.

For instance right now...chewing on Fennel has helped with my bloating.....but I aint sellin fennel.......

  8. Ive always called mine "sinky floaty" sensations. I get he pins and needles. Every once and awhile an icy hot pain. And sometimes my hands or feet get soooo cold even in the Summer time!! But they never look blue. I am hoping that it will continue to get better with gluten-free.

  9. Some cooked foods are easier to digest than raw foods. The starch foods are prime examples of this: potatoes, rice. Heat degrades the crystalline structure of starch, making it more accessible to the enzyme action in your digestive system. Raw starch is hard to digest, but probably won't harm you unless you consume such foods in gross excess (difficult to do).

Some foods contain antinutrient properties, toxins, and/or taste awful when raw, but are digestible/edible when cooked: large beans, especially kidney beans. Other raw foods have negative side-effects, such as severe flatulence (e.g., raw cabbage, lentil sprouts). Cooking such foods is one way to reduce/avoid side effects. (Other ways to avoid side effects include using spices, and fermentation.)

So while many foods are best eaten raw, there are some that are difficult or impossible to eat raw. (P.S. Some types of rice can be sprouted and eaten raw, but it is often very bitter and unpalatable.)

A natural diet would consist of mostly raw fruits, veggies, sprouted nuts and seeds, grubs and worms that could be dug up. The occasional bird egg cracked and enjoyed as is.

But who wants to eat like that????

I am by no means a raw foodiest, but I stand by saying that the doctor in question made a false statement.
