				ARCHIVED Ice Cream Sandwiches...?
purple replied to G-freegal12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We are going tonight for ice cream and groceries. The store is almost an hour away and its supposed to be 100 degrees today. Last time it stayed frozen pretty good. But now the chocolate cookies and brownies I made this week are gone -
Ha...that's right and neither does the fridge???!!! Our house was built many years ago and the utility room has the W and D, the upright freezer and the FRIDGE. I guess they didn't want it in the kitchen And neither the fridge nor the freezer work correctly. But we have an extra fridge outside on the back porch for all the main things like milk and meats...

My youngest dd (18) moved out last night but not to college. It's really hard. My other dd (20) stopped in for 5 minutes today. Both gals live 1 hour away. I know how your heart feels right now. How funny...I just talked to her for 20 minutes on the phone.

Here is a really good and easy english muffin recipe Wonka passed on to me: Open Original Shared Link My dd likes cinnamon and raisins in hers. I make them plain for her "buns". You can make rings from foil. Egg free, dairy free and gluten free. I spray the tops lightly with cooking spray before baking.

I made both of these today and basically followed the recipes, a couple of subs here or there...both are great! KFC Coleslaw Open Original Shared Link scrumptious! Tons of reviews on this recipe! Zucchini Bread Open Original Shared Link I added a crumb topping made with: 1/4 cup part sorghum/part cornstarch 1 1/2 T. brown sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon...

Make a batch of your favorite cookies. Put slightly softened ice cream between 2. Wrap and freeze them. Or make them one at a time and keep your cookies wrapped by the 2's in the freezer for those craving moments. Works great with a jet puff marshmallow. I melt a puff in the microwave until it puffs up, then sandwich between 2 cookies... I never did like... -
We just bought 38 2lb. packages of farm raised ground beef (only $2 per lb.! and I hadn't bought beef for several years b/c we had lots of elk except last year hubby didn't get one so yay for good beef!!). If you were to buy 1 package of ground beef you can do like I have been. Thaw it out/or use fresh, unfrozen. I make patties for 2 nights then use the remainder...

What I did for my gluten-free dd last year (that didn't live at home) was to make and freeze. Everytime I made something for us (non-gluten-free) I would try to make something I could freeze for her. Ex: for me, make wheat spaghetti, cook the beef, heat some sauce. Then in another pan cook the gluten-free pasta. I stopped making meatballs b/c of time and...

Oh my gosh...thanks! It's as long as the Lorkas bread thread...whew. Before I start reading it I will get me out a notebook to take notes. Thanks jerseyangel! There are gardening tips too!

Ya know, I read something about that once last year. They were sending them to our service peeps but I thought how are they sending glass jars, then I forgot all about it. I am not gluten-free so that sounds like a fun thing to try. My gluten-free dd LOVES angel food cake. So pound cake she doesn't have to make would be a great gift, esp. during strawberry...

I planted 13 tomato plants and we have had 2 deformed red ones, 1 baby roma and 2 cherries...most of my plants are heirloom. Others nearby don't have toms yet either. Next year I plan to plant some container toms to put on the porch. We had a cold and wet June this year, could have slowed them down. I never thought about canning applesauce before. I went...

You guys are great! Thanks for all the info...it's most helpful!!!!! Can a pressure canner be used w/o the lid as a water bath canner? Has anyone gotten sick from canning? My mom is worried about me canning...not me! Thanks for the links too
 -
Sorry! And I thought exploding beans in the microwave was messy. Thanks for the not getting a used one tip
 -
I want to learn how to can. What is your favorite canner? And what are some "dos and don'ts" ? I read pressure canning is better. I have 2 ladies wanting to help get me started. Next year I will be ready...YES!!! I hope to collect some jars this year and a canner... Thanks for all your tips!!

				ARCHIVED Substitute For Chili Powder
purple replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I agree with the garlic, onion and cumin Some recipes call for oregano. Try garlic salt and onion salt instead of plain salt. Then use some dried or fresh. My cumin is powdered. I just checked my taco seasoning package back and it has all 4 above mentioned seasonings. What about yucky cilantro (is it nightshade free?). I bought some dried to get my... -
Well I got to read all the posts...lots going on. Here are my cat/garden stories. Yesterday while in the garden I watched my cat take a flying leap over the zucchini...she was after a grasshopper. Last week I had 2 cats bring me birds on the same day. We have 5 cats and they all love to play hide and seek, roll in the dirt, catch critters, potty on occasion...
 -
Thanks! And I want to try your tomato soup recipe IF the tomatoes would turn red I picked a roma today...not big enough for soup I decided today that I could freeze some.
 -
I wish I had time to read all of your posts...will in the future! My first garden is doing great. I had a few trial and errors but I learned! So far I have picked zucchini, peas, cukes, beets, green onions, broccoli, carrots, red potatoes and lettuce. Almost ready are: corn, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, green beans, onions and garlic. I am already thinking...

ARCHIVED Substituting Flax Meal In Place Of Other Ingredients
purple replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you are thinking healthwise, you could add some ground nut flour too. I grind slivered almonds, sunflower nuts, sesame seeds and golden flax seed for the microwave bread posted awhile back. They all grind easily in a coffee grinder. -
It is sorghum or rice flour with tapioca and cornstarch. (I made another pan full this morning, then frozen the extra zucchini)
 -
I made some today for my dd. I also use part p.b. chips...mmm! I took them to our women's Bible study group last week and they all wanted the recipe except for one lady-she didn't like chocolate...lol! The neighbors loved them too, it's a nice way of giving zucchini away...HA HA!
 -
Yup, I got a gluten chili mix last year by McCormick. Now I make my own.

Katrina from glutenfreegoddess has many great recipes...here's some bread ones you can try: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I made the second recipe and messed it up, but it tasted wonderful...then I made croutons with the bread and they were fantastic and my dh ate them all(only my dd is gluten-free) She just posted a recipe...

I posted a recipe for Zucchini Pizza Pie on the SCD recipe thread if interested. Here is my favorite: Zucchini Brownies https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=57635 I have been making a pan full everyday this week...there is always somebody to help eat them! The last 2 batches I put part peanut butter chips in them...mmm! Next...
