  1. For me, it was being sick 9 days in a row about 4 summers ago. At that moment, I realized I must take the celiac seriously and commit myself to it. I had suffered problems for several years but it took finally getting sick of being sick to make me strong. I also try to tell myself, "it's just food; don't let it control you."
  2. Thanks guys for the responses. I appreciate them all. I knew I wasn't alone.
  3. Thanks, George. I appreciate your response. I had various tests done for different ailments and suspected anything but this. I was surprised but will take your advice. Thanks, again.
  4. I was diagnosed with osteopenia yesterday. I believe my T score was -2.35. At what point do they switch the diagnosis to osteoporosis? My doctor said I was a special case b/c she doesn't treat people my age (46) for this. Normally it is senior citizens. She said the celiac was the culprit due to malabsorption of calcium. She gave me 3 choices of medication...
  5. I know exactly where you're coming from. My senior year of high school when I rode the bus, I would try to go to sleep thinking I wouldn't have to deal with bathroom anxiety on the way to school (lived out of town so took awhile to get to school). Also, kept one of those giant bottles of Pepto in my locker which I had to hit every day after lunch. (That...
  6. Hi, celiac3270. I've had problems getting the lists both times you've sent it to me. The first time, it says that the attachment cannot be found, possibly due to AOL anti-virus blocker? Second time, the list was just a garbled list of numbers and letters. Any suggestions? Thanks for trying!
  7. We had grilled burgers tonight and I thought of trying my Kinnikinnick (sp?) tapioca rice english muffins as a bun. I cut one in half, warmed it in the microwave and was pleasantly surprised. It held together well and was a great substitute.
  8. When I was at the doctor last week, I got orders for both my sons to be tested. I have told the younger one who is getting ready to leave for college but not the one who is already there. Thought I'd break it to him when he comes home this weekend. Getting them to follow the gluten-free diet will probably be quite a challenge if they end up being positive...

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

My mother-in-law and her sister (husband's aunt) have Sunday dinner quite frequently. This past Sunday, his aunt invited us. They all know I have celiac. But it's always the same, no matter how often they're told. Some of the things she fixed were dinner rolls, noodles, peach cobbler, and brownies. Once again I was asked if I would like any of the above...
  10. I only see my GI every 3 years. I have the blood test to check my levels and a small bowel with follow through x-ray to make sure there are no cancer cells. However, this was BEFORE I found out that the barium I have to drink is not gluten-free! The last time I got very very sick on the way home. I will have to discuss this with him next time.
  11. Although I feel so much better since going gluten-free, there are still times I feel like I am sick. When I need to leave the house and am having bathroom issues, I sometimes feel like staying in the house forever, never going anywhere so I won't have to deal with worrying about making it to the next restroom. Overall though, I do feel more normal now that...
  12. Just purchased some l-glutamine. Couldn't remember the brand suggested here. This is Puritan's Pride. Don't have it with me so does anyone know if it's gluten-free? Did I do a bad thing? Thanks.
  13. I have also noticed that the last four months or so, I am very stiff and sore when I get out of bed in the morning. Don't know why, since I am just as active as I was before. No change in level of activity. Maybe it's my age!
  14. You guys crack me up!! I remember when they were still trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I had to take a stool sample to the hospital lab. She asked me when I "obtained" it and when I told her she said "Oh, we can't use that; it's been too long." Then I said, "Well, I can give you another one right now." She said, "Can you go at will or what...
  15. Believe me, I feel your frustration. I gained 10 lbs in 10 days over Christmas Break last year and have still not been able to lose it. I walk 2 miles a day/5 times a week and also do aerobics or toning exercises. I am totally gluten free to my knowledge (not aware of any cross contamination, etc). My stomach normally looks like I'm 6 months pregnant...
  16. You have no idea how close your story is to my own. I have also been in that situation and tried to divert my thoughts AND used the deep breathing technique to calm myself. Have also made the mad rush to the bathroom more than once! It is so great to find out that I am not the only "strange" one in our crazy world!!! Thanks!!!
  17. If you like angel food cake, Gluten-Free Pantry makes an awesome mix. You just add water and vanilla. My husband can't tell the difference!
  18. Is RC Cola gluten free? Bought a case today, so I hope so. Read ingredients. Looked ok.

  20. I have been considering switching to Bare Escentuals. However, when I looked them up, I'm a little confused on how to use the products b/c they seem different than "normal" makeup. Any helpful hints? Thanks.
  21. I'd appreciate the list too, celiac3270. Thanks so much for spending so much of your time helping your fellow celiacs! rldter@rtccom.net
  22. Do you have any problems with diarrhea from the Reliv? I know I tried Slimfast a few years ago and it was almost the death of me so I'm a little leary of any type of healthy shake. Thanks.
  23. Imodium is a lifesaver! It helps me function as a normal human being. It does usually take an hour or so to start working for me though. I have tried many AD's and this is the best. I have never been constipated from its use either. I have a bottle at home, one in my purse, and one in our camper. Never leave home without it!!!
  24. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I have had the accidents which has caused the anxiety. My husband (as understanding as he is) gets aggravated with me because when we get ready to go anywhere, I often go back to the bathroom 4 or 5 times to "make sure" I can make it to my destination. If I am going to be away from home, I take the Imodium whether...
  25. Yeah, I am totally frustrated...as far as I know, I am totally gluten-free but keep gaining weight, even with exercise. My stomach is so distended all the time. It has gotten much worse the past year. I can't wait to get my clothes off some days just to feel comfortable!
