  1. ya- i second skylark- we the people can edit wiki.. And might i say- your username is genius!
  2. oohhhhhh i REALLY hope they ARE working on a gluten free menu- they really should make a couple of those oven/tables dedicated to gluten free- and only use wheat free soy sauce & fish & oyster sauces... cause i really really really miss teppenyaki
  3. hey- the following links are 2 gluten-free girls i follow on twitter- you may have to hunt a little- because sometimes they use soy.. sometimes they use butter or eggs- but u can find a lot of stuff on there that could help u- using cashew or coconut... Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link and what about goat milk?? or sheep cheese...
  4. how long have you been gluten free? are u avoiding dairy? how bad were u when u were dx? because- when i used to eat gluten years ago- i felt like i reacted to everything including drinking water!!
  5. i cannot relate to the "not being able to gain weight" complaint at all .... weight easily sticks to me.. if you want the weight to "stick"- try adding white rice to every meal- it will definitely help- if white rice constipates u- then add even more veggies on top of that - but the calories in that carb form will definitely be good for another good 5 lbs...
  6. and they're absolutely delicious... you can blend them up to make your own version of "mashed potatoes" too! YUM they should not bother your stomach at all... if i overdo them i get fructose malabsorption cramping... im still working out my limit on them- cause they are too delicious to avoid
  7. so dont "quote" me on it- it is much safer if you always call each individual company yourself to get clear answers. that being said... i use some products from Boiron and ive called them to ask if they were gluten free- and they said yes. i dont know if ALL their products are gluten-free or just the ones i take.. but i dont have any reaction to them at...
  8. i read that the other day too. i follow them on twitter and always read their stuff with a healthy combo of openmindedness & skepticism. imho- i think some people with Celiac or Gluten Intolerance may have similar reactions to Corn as they do with regular Gluten... and others may be perfectly fine and have no reactions.. i think we just have to listen...
  9. interesting! thanku! i dont think my body likes ANYTHING glutamat-ish
  10. melissa- look for Ultra Fish Smart.. its the ONLY fish oil ive taken that doesnt make me nauseous .. all the other ones make me sick to my stomach (even when i tried the trick of putting it in the freezer for awhile). also- coffee is very irritating to some people's intestines. im not sure that it ever changes... i think your body gets used to it.. ...
  11. quincy- thanku so much!! That info helps ALOT!!!
  12. i know u cant trust everything on the internet- but does anyone know if there's any truth to the claims that: Soy Protein Isolate and Autolyzed Yeast Extract are really just fake names for MSG??
  13. hey- that's why blood tests are a good idea- because so many Celiacs are asymptomatic. yet they can be inconclusive especially if you're gluten-free. Dang... add sleep apnea to my Dad's long list of suspicious symptoms... i continue to urge him to get tested.. and he hasnt
  14. undiagnosed Celiac could also kill someone. that's the problem- doctors rarely consider checking for this. i dont know if i neccessarily blame the doctor- its just the whole system.. Maybe i sound like a conspiracy theorist but i believe with every cell in my body- that it is not considered because it is nonprofitable. its just not right to put someone on...
  15. skylark beat me to it ya, i read that the japanese invented it because they wanted to make something that had the same effect on the brain as gluten did... and i think at first they made it from kelp- but then from wheat.. and that they make it from bacteria here. MSG bloats me up to look like im 4 months pregnant, but no headache. i HATE it....
  16. yes, it doesnt have to be top priority.. yes its very easy for us to treat ourselves- but you have to admit- that the medical schools (especially in the U.S.) are so far behind- (pardon my attitude- but the Pharmaceutical Companies & Health Insurance Companies don't make any money off of it). it is more profitable for them to diagnose everyone with IBS...
  17. also look at corn and soy... they can be problematic or contaminated.. its true- your reactions do get stronger.. and vary.. i actually got a little itchy the other day eating Diamond Pecan Nut thins.. its measured as <20ppm.. annoying I KNOW.. years ago when i went on Atkins- with occasional wheat cheats- i felt FANTASTIC... but also- we cant...
  18. i dont feel like any of the choices in the 1st question fit me.... ??? i self diagnosed myself with Celiac via: reaction to diet, positive Endomysial Antibody, and Genetic test. then 2 weeks after that, i got DH. then my Gi agreed with my self diagnosis. no biopsy
  19. you should get a copy of her results for yourself. then study them so u understand what they mean.. docs often barely give it a glance.. they totally missed key parts to my results- after i pointed them out to my Gi 2 years later- he was like.. "Ohhhhh ya- looks like u r Iga deficient.... and Positive on the Endomysial Antibody.... hmmmm interesting.." ...
  20. just because this writer was ridiculously ignorant doesnt mean that "homeopathic" types arent of any use... i use several different homeopathic tablets & creams- because they were the only things that worked. and there is SOME truth to our medical community being "evil" or failing us- isnt "Celiac" enough of an example of how our medical system has failed...
  21. i think your blood tests are proof enough! if i were u- i wouldnt worry about an endoscopy- i would save that procedure (time & money) for later on when you need to have a regular check or if you have any worries you want to rule out.
  22. omg... i could not finish that- it was all over the place with misleading and innaccurate thoughts ... i finally stopped reading when the author stated as "fact" for a 3rd time- that this fake autoimmune disease is ALWAYS triggered by an overrun immune system.. true- many Celiacs initially get triggered by an event like an infection or a pregnancy.. but...
  23. some members on here suggest that at least 2 months or more is required for a proper gluten challenge. my doc only put me on a 2 week challenge- and my tests were pretty weak.. they werent positive enough for the docs to think i was Celiac 2 years ago.. but i am indeed a Celiac.. honestly tho- i dont think i could have handled more than 2 weeks- i was...
  24. for this beginning transitional period- i think it's a good idea to give up dairy, corn, and soy.. and keep your "gluten free" substitutes to a minimum (cookies, breads, cereals). you can try adding those things in later- and maybe even one at a time. many people can go back to dairy once their villi are healed... but for many it's a more permanent thing...
  25. ive never been able to handle popcorn.. i realized this as a kid- before i ever tried any diet or knew anything about health. popcorn kills me- it's like throwing a whole wheelbarrow of rocks down my stomach... it's worse than a couple of pears.
