ARCHIVED Ibs Vs Celiac Disease
stef-the-kicking-cuty replied to amiller1030's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My doctor also told me, I had IBS. This didn't help me, though. But when I found out, that it's gluten, that bothers me, I got a lot better. One of my students told me, she was diagnosed with IBS. I told her, my doctor said, it would be IBS with me, too, and at the end it came out, that it's celiac disease and not IBS. She got tested for celiac disease and... -
Dying From Celiac?
stef-the-kicking-cuty replied to SharonF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also think that it's possible to die from celiac disease, if you don't pay attention what you put into your mouth. If nutrients and vitamins are missing for a few years all possible organs can shut down. Like with me I had severe muscle weakness while being undiagnosed. The heart is a muscle, too. What, if it stops??? -

ARCHIVED Writing A Book
stef-the-kicking-cuty replied to KaitiUSA's topic in Publications & Publicity
Because the gluten-friendly food companies will probably outdate pretty soon, you could also list the companies on a website and put the website adress in the book. It's easier to update a list on the internet, than in the book all the time. So the list would be more like an add to the book. -

ARCHIVED Eating Out In General
stef-the-kicking-cuty replied to phakephur's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
@ Shirley, you're so right. That's what I think, too. We try to spread out the "celiac"-word for friends and family. But it's important to raise awareness in restaurants, too. @ Amanda: That's definitely true, that it gets easier, when you have somebody with you, that can help. I myself am a very shy person and I get ashamed very fast, too. At the weekend... -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream
stef-the-kicking-cuty replied to casnco's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can also have the Turkey Hill Premium ice creams. And the hot fudge sundae at MickeyD's is glutenfree. It's even diet ice cream I just found out. Hm! And at the moment they have this special offer 2 for 2 dollars. At least here in PA... Hugs, Stef -

That's the other thing. You maybe don't know, if it works for sure or if it's only masking the symptoms. But even if we would know 100%, that it's not masking the symptoms, I wouldn't take the pill, unless I accidentaly ate gluten. Like an afterwards thing. And I really hope, that our food choices don't shrink, when such a pill comes out. -
ARCHIVED Can Celiacs Eat Corn?

Yes, celiac3270 is right. Corn is glutenfree unless there are gluten containing spices and flavorings added. -

Even if the pill would work 100%. It doesn't matter. I think, if you say: 'Oh, I would only take this pill, if I know 100% that it's safe.' than this is just the wrong attitude. Safe or not safe. In case of intentionally eating glutenfood I wouldn't take it at all. Because I might as well not eat gluten containing food. OK, when you have a pill for accidentaly... -
Yes, it can be tough, if you didn't do much for a while. Even if you actually DID do something for a while it can be tough. I'm the best example. And the last couple of days I had my celiac student with fibro also standing in the gym and being real tired because all of that. A couple of weeks since diagnosis she was good now. And thursday she came to the...

I have nerve damage to my right eye, because of celiac. Before diagnosis, when I was tired, the right eyelid sunk down and I couldn't open it anymore. Amazingly this changed after going glutenfree. Among other doctors I was sent to some neurologists as well. But all the tests were negative as well. Nobody found anything...

ARCHIVED Well, It Figures!
stef-the-kicking-cuty replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
@ Karen, maybe you could stock up a lot of these bottles. Then buy the ingredients and try to mix it on your own. And then just always go back and forward and compare, until you mixed it with the "right" taste of the original. I know, things like that can make you angry. It would have made me a lot angry, too. But isn't that a good idea? Hugs, Stef -
ARCHIVED Hello Everyone, I'm New Here...
stef-the-kicking-cuty replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
@ jbugsly: I started Shotokan Karate, one of the more famous karate styles (at least in germany), when I was 9 years old. I'm 28 now. And I added kickboxing, when I was 17, which became my absolute favorite immidiately those days (and stayed until today). In my eyes, it's much better then the "old" non-contact karate styles (Shotokan is one of the non-contact... -

Hello ajlauer, welcome to the message board. Yes, the good old "food pyramide". It's not only your government nutritionists, it's pretty much all over the world. As a german I lived in germany all my life. And I remember as a child, reading the back of the Cornflakes packages all the time and they had the food pyramide on these packages as well. And... -

Wow, that's interesting. Well, I always thought, I don't have problems with milk until a couple of days ago, when I had that cold. And as always, when I have a cold, I have that weird longing for hot milk and honey. And I had incredible bloating after that. Hugs, Stef -
