  2. I have had skin reactions to dairy since going gluten-free and dairy lite. no itching though. I seem to have similar reactions to seafood, so I think it is histamine. have you tried Ghee versus butter as another variable?
  3. I don't think the Topa has had enough time to show you what it can do (besides tingle....) Hang in there!!! I am rooting for it and for you! From your comments about fragrances, it seems like an excellent choice (neuronal stabilizer) After I went gluten-free, I seemed to be getting allergies. Tests showed they are to formaldehye are phenols...
  4. That's fabulous - 2 good weeks and 2 forums that you like the tone of. I didn't realize you were both migraneurs! yikes! Those rescue meds are expensive and kind of scary, it definitely pays to keep an eye on them. I've only been in rebound once and I will Never Do That Again. I'm very glad those links were handy and now they're here if some one...
  5. I'm in the same place - do I still need that 50 mg of Topamax? I think I do get rather stupid right before a migraine, (prodome?). And lately I sometimes just get the stupid and don't get the headache. What is your preferred migraine forum, BTW? This is one of the highest quality boards ever, IMO.
  6. 10 days and you've slain the migraine beast... that is so wonderful!! In general, I don't miss dairy that much; but I find avoiding dairy to be a pain. You come off as so picky in restaurants - "I'd like the X, please hold the Y." And parmesan cheese is everywhere... I had to send some cabbage back to kitchen the other day. It never occurred to me to...
  7. I am also wondering if we should use Enterolab or if we should look into a different lab that will give us a complete alpha and beta profile of ALL of the DQ alleles. Do you know which lab is best for this type of test? Here's a link to an article by Dr. Lewey talking about the Prometheus lab and how they test. Probably better for you than Enterolab....
  8. DH and I eat low carb and occasionally skip meals on purpose - it is called intermittent fasting and research shows it can offer some health benefits. This assumes, of course, that you implement the other wonderful suggestions and eat right the rest of the time! I mention the low carb because IF is easier on a LC diet.
  9. I am just gluten intolerant. My Seb. Derm is nowhere near as severe as yours although one summer I had it behind my ears and I thought they might fall off! I went gluten-free and my scalp improved, but now that I am CF too, I only have a tiny, tiny patch on the crown of my head. When I've tested dairy, I have noticed my skin gets worse. My main reaction...
  10. Very helpful thread! I've been getting most of my recipes online from various blogs. One of the best so far is Elana's pantry. But i like reading cookbooks and cooking from a book.
  11. I'm not drinking the nut milks, just cooking with it - custards mainly. I use a mix of coconut milk and nut milk. I think it works better than store bough because I can control the thickeness. I guess I am really making nut "half and half" This may be more than you want to get into for just a trial. I forgot to mention the blog, Elana's Pantry. Her recipes...
  12. I'm not too certain about degrees of damage. But I would ask if you could be checked for bone density issues and perhaps nutrient deficiencies (this could wait for 6 months?)
  13. www.bloodsugar101.com is a great web site for all issues related to blood sugar. This website will explain exactly how to get your numbers down and keep them there, with lots of links to the relevant research. Elana's pantry has some wonderful recipes that happen to be gluten-free and glycemic index friendly.
  14. That is so cool that your neuro recommended you try this! My migraines improved significantly when DH went gluten-free/CF and I went along for the ride. I was way too spacey to attempt a mixed kitchen! Now my meds are down by 50% even though I am eating known "trigger" foods like dark chocolate. I've made sure my neuro knows about this diet. My husband...
  15. DH started to get headaches in the last year before he went gluten-free, but he's never really had any before that. He had some doozies during his gluten challenge. He hasn't had any since goingGF/CF except when he's had soy milk. He had never even suspected soy until the Enterolab tests. My headaches are tons better since going on this diet with...
  16. You need the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the drywall and the drywall compound. I don't know what brand materials are at your construction site, but I just googled MSDS and drywall, looked at the sheet and one of the ingredients is starch. More detective work needed or will this be enough for your boss give your symptoms?
  17. All of DH's blood tests were negative, including the biopsy. His symptoms are primarily related to mood with the occasional mad dash down the hall... He did get a positive test from Enterolab and his dietary response is excellent. It helps to have support from your friends, and you probably will get it .....eventually. But in the meantime, your body is...
  18. The forum is very active, tremendously supportive and you will never be asked about your height or anything else unless it is relevant to the topic under discussion. Even then, they are a tactful group. The group is committed to controlling their blood sugars. Some of them are also working on losing weight or gaining weight or gaining muscle or having a healthy...
  19. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link That's great that you've got the book on the way! On the Forum, they tell newbies to read "the book" and then to read it again. It really is packed with info... His Diabetes diet book is also good, unless you're avoiding dairy. Then you might prefer to check it out from the library. 62 years...
  20. Over on the Bernstein Diabetes Forum (a very low carb diet), they emphasize upping your protein to gain weight. Portions of the Bernstein book are available free online at that site.
  21. DH has the DQ8 and DQ5. He is intolerant of gluten and casein and has given them up. The tests show he is allergic to soy and eggs also but they are not totally out of his diet yet. He had no GI symptoms before accidentally going gluten-free. Instead he seemed to be developing pre-diabetes, despite being slender and exercising. He also had problems with...
  22. That's great news for my spouse! I haven't been there in ages. Just a heads up to anyone avoiding MSG - this place uses a lot of it, and I am pretty sure it is IN the burgers by default. That's why I stopped going, but things change, so check it out and at least enjoy the fries!
  23. Mr. Moore, I'm not certain you've given the gluten-free diet a long enough trial. And I truly feel you could benefit from trying the Failsafe diet also. I mean, you may need both, from what you've posted elsewhere about MSG. You might need to deal with the mercury too, I don't have any knowledge on that topic, but have you been tested for heavy metals...
  24. Wow - this is the single most helpful post I've read on this board out of many, many helpful posts. I did not know this and we've been driving ourselves crazy playing food detective! Thank you
