  1. I am very sorry I did not reply to you. Your response ended up in my Trash instead of my Inbox. I didn't realize that till today. I will get the recipes for you.
  2. Steph, Once again I have to ask, where was your husband when his family members were making snide remarks to you? He needs to defend your position. He needs to tell them that he remarked to you that it's always something that you are always sick. You came back and pointed out that it never happens when you eat at home. That got him thinking and...
  3. Of course you are welcome here! This isn't an elite forum just for a small select group. It's for anyone who wants to know more about this disease and all it's myriad of levels. As mentioned, gluten sensitivity is such a huge iceberg of a problem that as a society, we really are only seeing the very tip. In fact for many, it something they have never...
  4. Yes, celiac disease can cause great pain. That was a big one for me. I didn't get rid of all the pain until I greatly restricted all grains. Right now I'm eating rice 2-3 times a week. Last week I also had some corn. Those are the two that seem to digest well for me. If you do not get a response from the dr, why not just go for the gluten free...
  5. You need to be eating gluten for the testing to be as accurate as possible. If you have a blood test this week, take the results with a grain of salt as you've been mostly off gluten for awhile. You have definately found a key to your problem. It's a pretty simple cause and effect to my way of thinking. Aren't you glad you had that aha! moment?
  6. The autoimmune system in your body is microscopic so it can react to microscopic amounts of gluten.
  7. I would back up the info on eating processed foods like gluten-free bread and mixes. They often contain small amounts of gluten even though they are labeled gluten-free. I always recommend a very simple whole food diet for newbies. It's easy on your damaged system which can react to everything you eat just out of spite, in the beginning. After you are...
  8. I don't know about gluten in gum. I haven't heard of that. But what I have heard of is people reacting to the artificial flavorings and/or MSG in gum. That could be a factor for you since you are battling other intolerances.
  9. I had some guilt feelings at one time but I don't any more. After all, I don't judge people as difficult because they have diabetes or are picky eaters. I know lots of people with both issues. If I don't judge people that way, why should I think they are judging me that way? You must have confidence in who you are and be OK with that. We all indulge...

    ARCHIVED So Hungry

This is one of my main symptoms. I eat and eat. Even if I feel very full I'm still chasing food! I don't let myself feel guily about it. I allow myself to eat all the safe food I crave. You'll make yourself miserable trying to resist the base needs of your body. I like to make a big pot of chicken and rice noodle soup. It's not heavy on calories...
  11. I'm also 51 and I have turned the pain and other problems completely around in the last two years. You can too. Is there a reason why you haven't gone completely gluten-free? You can start turning around your pain and suffering when you can devote yourself to the diet. I agree with the previous poster on vitamins. I take D but, for me, the magnesium...
  12. I'm an overweight celiac, there are lots of us! Depression is common when you eat gluten and when are healing from it. It will get better. Make sure you support your damaged body with good food and vitamins. That can help the sadness a lot. You need a B complex plus a seperate sublingual B12 methyl type, a multivitamin, magnesium and fish oil. These...
  13. You might consider posting your blood results here with the lab's ranges. If a person is IGA deficient, the bloodwork appears normal even if you have celiac disease. The endoscopy just took a few minutes. With the anesthesia, I don't remember any of it. I didn't have any discomfort after. I would do it again without fear.
  14. That's great that your dr got you in so fast! That's neat because so many dr's throw it out if the bloodwork isn't "perfect". You have a positive reading in blood. Even though it's only one of the levels that's OK. It will help him get a dx. Keep him eating gluten till his endoscopy then the minute it is over, go gluten free. Do Not wait for the...
  15. I was wondering about pet food too. What about litter? I don't know if that has gluten or not? Has she been exposed to any construction projects with dry wall? Some glues in construction can have gluten. What about the obvious like Playdo at church or friends' or preschool? Do you keep a food journal for her? Sometimes it just takes the act of...
  16. If you take him off gluten before the endoscopy, the results are suspect. If you don't want to scope him but need a definative dx ask your dr if he will dx on the blood work and dietary response. If you don't care about a dx only how your son feels, then go for the diet and forget the rest. I'm not trying to tell you one method is better than the...
  17. He might be "well known" but he doesn't know well, does he?
  18. I cannot tolerate any narcotics. Make me vomit on the spot and that's morphine injection or demeral pills. I just tell them upfront do not give them to me. Fenergen also does that to me. Ironic that it's to calm your stomach but it makes me vomit over and over. DH cannot handle narcotics either. With him, he just turns mean and abusively mouthy...
  19. We're a sensitive bunch but some are even more sensitive! You may not react to those things but others do. You have to find out through trial and error what you react to.
  20. Do we dream about what we fear the most?
  21. Sorry I didn't notice this thread to respond to before. My family are fair concessionaires so I have been popping popcorn all my life. Just the way you described it. There is no gluten in the popcorn itself as others have pointed out. There is no gluten in popcorn salt. It is just salt that is ground extra fine so it distributes well. We used palm...
  22. It seems that this rash thing waxes and wanes and I haven't a clue of why it's better sometimes and worse others. I think you do know. For some reason, my back was a lot less red and itchy through the weekend and seemed to be improving over the last couple of days. Well, yesterday, I didn't resist tempatation and had a chicken biscuit from Chick...
  23. I was looking for the total IGA too. I'm no expert on the tests but I do know you can be IGA deficient and the bloodwork will always be negative. If you had a positive biopsy, that is all you need. It means they found enough damage to your small intestine to indicate celiac disease. Welcome to the forum. Start your healing now and ask any questions...
  24. As far as food, I would pack leftovers. I eat leftovers every day for my lunch so that seems natural to me. I'm a veteran of many years of soccer and basketball. I don't go anywhere without comfy fold up chairs in my car. They are inexpensive and easy to transport. I would take my food bag and chairs and make myself at home! All the years my kids...
  25. It's the pits to feel so bad. I'm sorry your having a tough time. It sounds like you are having some withdrawal symptoms and those are hard on you but they will pass. Your body is trying to adjust and, for now, it doesn't like that you've changed your diet. You just have to tough it out. I would say you probably need some vitamin support also. B...
