ARCHIVED No Celiac Symptoms, Do I Have To Do gluten-free Diet?
ang1e0251 replied to Benshell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My 6 year old daughter was just diagnosed with celiac based on blood tests (her endocrinologist suggested it as she has a thyroid disorder). She is symptom free - her growth has been on target since birth (she's 50% height/weight), no problems eating/digesting/pooping, no behavior problems, no development problems (she's extremly smart and outgoing). ... -

ARCHIVED Looking For Interpretation: Gluten Sensitive Enterolab Results?
ang1e0251 replied to screech's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It wouldn't matter if you are eating gluten for the gene test. I understand the stool test can be used even up to a year of gluten-free eating. -
ARCHIVED Saw My Gi Doc Today For Results Of Biopsy
ang1e0251 replied to boysmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A "wheat allergy" causes a histamine response not villous atrophy! That wasn't too cool to tell you that. I would take my test results and get a second opinion IF you think you need it. It's a good idea to get your future college student diagnosed as a few college students have had battles about the mandatory food programs at their schools. Starting... -
ARCHIVED Going Round In Circle With My Dr, Can Anyone Help Me?
ang1e0251 replied to ninconpoop's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can be hard to dx. Testing really isn't up to par yet. If you've exhausted all the tests you want, then you can just eat gluten-free and the heck with the rest. If you feel you must have the dr's gold stamp, then you are going to have to keep going on with the testing and eating gluten. That's a very personal choice that only you can make. Either way... -
ARCHIVED Need Some Parenting Advice
ang1e0251 replied to ValentinoMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You know, you can substitute most things for kids so their menu isn't so different from before. I think it's more important that they know their world isn't going to explode if they go gluten-free. You being upset will make it more upsetting for them. If you act like it's no big deal, they will not feel so anxious. And by the way, I go to McDonald... -
ARCHIVED Can I Have A Child Re Tested?
ang1e0251 replied to codygirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why not consult your dr? Explain your family history and the symptoms you've noted. You didn't say what the test results were 3 years ago. A positive test in one child should cause the whole family to be tested. There are problems with testing accuracy though so you will need all your ammunition when talking to the dr. Writing down all your points of... -
There are always persons out there who feel powerful when they impose their will on another person. I don't know if you've ever dieted, but there's always someone who wants you to fail at the diet. Sometimes that person will even sabotage your food! And the sad thing is, that person is often a family member. Someone you love and trust. That kind...

Wow, you win for most emotionally draining day! I take Dayquil or Nyquil with no problems. Haven't tried a throat drop but straight honey is very good to soothe the throat and help a cough. When something is trying to get us, we mix up a cup of hot water with a tblspn of honey and one of apple cider vinegar. If you like it sweeter, add more honey. It...

You may need magnesium and B12. Mag relaxes the muscles and, for me, B12 helped more the nerve symptoms. Also I started to have a problem with coffee. It was causing tremors in my tongue, spreading to my jaw. It wasn't the caffeine, I have more of that now than I did then. It's something (?) in the coffee.

The ingredients for the Ensure are : Water, corn maltodextrin, sugar (sucrose), milk protein, canola oil, soy protein, concentrate, corn oil, short-chain fructooligsacchardes, natural and artifical flavors, whey protein concentrate, soy lecithin and carrageenan. It says it's lactose & gluten -free. This might be lactose free but it still has...

ARCHIVED 6 Yr Old Diagnosed With Celiac, No Symptoms?
ang1e0251 replied to Benshell's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What you may find, as she goes gluten free, is that little problems clear up. You say she has no symptoms but it may be that you don't recognize the symptoms. I started the diet to clear up my rash but a whole host of other problems cleared up that I never expected. I think you're smart to get a second opinion but as the PP pointed out, high blood... -
ARCHIVED Morning Fatigue And Fog How Do You Cope?
ang1e0251 replied to cyoshimit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's store bought. I use Hormel Naturals lunchmeat. It's the only kind with no added nitrites/ates which I seem to react to. I eat it every day with a high protein breakfast. I was reading on the last page of the SCD thread and one poster was mentioning how he was sleeping better without the complex carbs at dinner. He craved them but he could tell they... -

The book I read that inspired me to use magnesium in the correct amounts for me, said that when your body is under extra stress such as a workout, you shoud have extra magnesium on those days. -

If you choose to increase your magnesium, there are a couple of ways to get it without taking more supplements. You are right, it can lead to D if you take more than your body can tolerate. You can use magnesium oil. I haven't tried it but Dr. Carolyn Dean, the author of "The Magnesium Miracle", recommends it. Also you can soak in an epsom salt ... -
ARCHIVED Dilemma! Advice Needed Please
ang1e0251 replied to Noodle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe the reference to cancers was given to a person with a family history of cancer. If you don't have that history, I wouldn't worry about that aspect of it. I also would ask the dr's reasoning behind the test. Maybe there is something he's looking for that you didn't consider. -

ARCHIVED Morning Fatigue And Fog How Do You Cope?
ang1e0251 replied to cyoshimit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd say your symptoms are pretty common for a lot of newly dx'd persons. It sounds to me like you're experiencing low blood sugar. That's how I feel when my blood sugar is low. I have to eat a lot of protein. Stuff like apple juice would just make me crash. I munch on a little ham while I make my breakfast or take my B12 then. I don't get the anxiety... -
I'm still eating every couple of hours. My blood sugar will dive if I don't. And I have to have a lot of protein also to support the blood sugar. I feel if I can keep that leveled out, I would have less a chance of developing diabetes down the road. I always have meat with a meal and for snacks I mostly have cheese with grapes, nuts and chocolate or...

ARCHIVED Feels Like Pulled Ab Muscle -- Could It Be Celiac?
ang1e0251 replied to jat237's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's normal to feel sad about changing a lifetime of habits but at some point you will have to accept this gift you've been given. I know, you don't want to hear it's a gift. If it was one of your five children who was dx'd, how would you react? How would you help them cope with the same problems you've been expressing here? Don't brush off the question... -

ARCHIVED celiac disease & Water Retention
ang1e0251 replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Sports and Fitness
I agree about the grains and sugar. My swollen bouts have greatly reduced since I went that route. I know, I need to give up the last of the sugar. I need to try to cook with stevia. I had a bad bout of swelling last week when I ate some corn at a flower show. I was wondering if it was CC but I tend to think it was the grain. I didn't really have gluten... -
ARCHIVED Confessions Of A Cook
ang1e0251 replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
In 1970 my dad saw a demonstration of an exciting new product, the microwave oven! He was so taken he brought one home. We had never heard of this and I would bet we were the first in our town to have one. We proceeded to try everything in it! We blew up marshmallows, we wanted strawberry shortcake so we put in a plastic carton of frozen strawberries... -
ARCHIVED Am I Just Healing, Or Are There More Intolerances?
ang1e0251 replied to jabberwife's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good going! You can do it. I would be sad about the cheese too. I may have to give it up at some point too. If I have too, I will. It's always worth it if we can feel normal again. I gave up most of the grains. I would read about people who did that and think, "I don't think I could do that." And yet I have and now I don't miss it. Even my husband... -

Hey I glutened myself frequently in the first months so you're way ahead of me. You didn't set yourself back to the beginning. Go forth and read labels!
