Including a curt reply about the fact that gluten intolerance and celiac disease are NOT food allergies and as such cannot be dx'd by an allergy specialist. Their company should really hire a consultant from one of the celiac centers to help them avoid negative comments and/or law suits from persons with this autoimmune disease who they are injuring through...

I would think going to college in a strange town is incredibly hard with your food plan. I want to offer some alternatives for your food and I think you can find them in every basic grocery. They are not gourmet but are food when you need something fast and can't cook. Keep on hand, canned tuna, canned chicken & canned beef. You can eat them...

ARCHIVED Can Someone Please Help Me?...no One Will Listen!
ang1e0251 replied to Lilymylove's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is so hard to get a dr to take you seriously and I was 50 YO when I talked to my dr about it! I can imagine a 17 YO really gets blown off. You have a couple of problems with getting tested. You've been of gluten mostly for awhile now and that will throw your testing off. You will need to eating gluten for about 8 weeks for good test results. ... -
ARCHIVED New At This & Frustrated

At 16 you cannot control everything she eats, as you pointed out. You are going to have to get her involved in food preperation and shopping so she can learn for herself. After all, she will soon be out on her own and needs to know this stuff. If she will come on this forum, there is a lot she can learn. You can teach her to go to the McDonald's website... -

You know, the sister never got it before and she is not going to get it now. For whatever reason, but I understand your feelings. I get very upset when my DH's family doesn't treat him the way I feel he deserves. He, on the other hand, is very laid back about it and forgiving. It bothers me to no end. I guess I need to take a lesson from his hand book... -
ARCHIVED Accidental Gluten Advice Sought
ang1e0251 replied to Oxalis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like to eat peppermints for a tender tummy and I like Constent Comment tea. I usually take additional B12 on those days, it helps a little with the brain fog and neuro symptoms. I usually am starving those days, so I make sure I have plenty of safe foods to eat. I especially like broth with rice noodles and a little chicken. -

I would be sceptical about your son returning to dairy. I'm no dr, so I could be wrong. Usually you see someone reacting initially to fresh dairy not something low lactose like cheese. Also if he has an allergy to casein and not lactose intolerant, no amount of healing will trump the allergy. You'll have to find out. -
There are 3 recipes. Eclairs are pastry, filling and topping. Kind of like a Longjohn for us Midwest girls!

ang1e0251 replied to chellbythesea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When a dr goes to dx celiac disease, he must pull all the puzzle pieces at his disposal together. Symptoms just aren't enough as they can be vague, mimic other conditions and there are over 200 of them. You have few of the puzzle pieces already; symptoms and your blood work. But those are rather weak blood results. I think your dr will want an endoscopy... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Son - All The Symptoms, No Diagnosis, What To Do Next?
ang1e0251 replied to RobynJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What do I do from here? Should we do the genetic testing? Is it even worth it? It seems so many test can come out with a false negative. Why not do the genetic test? If the dr will use it as a diagnostic tool, it can help for your overall picture of disease. Do get those test results. You can post them here and there are those that are good at... -
ARCHIVED Struggling On Rpa Elimination Diet
ang1e0251 replied to gf-soph's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I think it would help to clarify exactly what you are struggling with. You mentioned getting used to eating meat. OK, but what else? Are you hungry? Are you looking for more variety in your foods? Can you not find foods on your list in your area? What is it that you see a lack in that you're missing? -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease As Well As Other Problems?
ang1e0251 replied to willabec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Does this seem like a typical gluten response to you? What are your normal reactions to gluten? You could have developed a secondary food sensitivity but it's tough to pinpoint it with your food diary. Have you had a celiac disease blood panel recently? It might be good to check on your antibodies and see if you're getting sneaky gluten anywhere. -

If you're hungry, eat more. Eat as much safe food as your body wants. It's been deprived for a long time so it's going to go nuts for awhile. Go out and take a run when you get pumped up! -
ARCHIVED Want Some Opinions
ang1e0251 replied to Frances03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms do sound like you should be testing for celiac disease. The ice chewing can be a sign of low iron. That also would be consistant with celiac disease. Did you get your blood tests back yet? -
ARCHIVED I Got My Blood Test Results Back Today
ang1e0251 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are lots of reasons why the blood test could be negative, that does not rule out celiac disease. I'm sorry your dr scared you this way but it is not necesary to do that right now. I agree that the colonoscopy is a good idea right now and also that it is a perfect time to also have the endoscopy. Don't take no for an answer, have the endoscopy. You... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Or Enterolab And Diagnosis Or Not
ang1e0251 replied to bahrbdoll's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it would be helpful to your daughters, then you should consider getting the dr's dx. See where the dr wants to take the testing. It's hard to go back later if you decide you want testing down the road and have been gluten-free for awhile. -

Eggs and Tortillas (I got some corn tortillas so we are okay here) Good! Waffles and pancakes buy these gluten-free oatmeal (he won't eat cold cereal though) No oatmeal, there is a certain kind to try but not in the beginning *Fruit (we always have a big supply of that around the house) Good! ARCHIVED Wondering What To Do Think
ang1e0251 replied to busymom2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think I would test her with wheat at such a young age. Blood tests for very young children are often wrong even if they are eating wheat. If your mother is diagnosed as having celiac disease, this fact should go into your daughter's family history section of her medical file. You must make the decision yourself but I think waiting until your... -

It's the dairy. Most of us can't have dairy while we're healing. Leave off the dairy for a few months then try it again and see if you can handle it. -
ARCHIVED Subbing Oil For Shortening/butter In Cookies
ang1e0251 replied to TinaM's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Cookies need something firm so they will hold up. That will work in cakes but cookies need a little more M-mph. I would think that coconut oil would be excellant; better than a liquid oil. -

I do the chicken breast thing too. Frozen breasts into the micro for about one minute. Then slice into chunks and fry with olive oil/coconut oil and butter with Lawry's Seasoned Salt over leftover rice. If I have more time but not much inclination, I take chicken thight or parts and bake in the oven. Sprinkle olive oil over chicken with Lawry's and... -
ARCHIVED The Curse Of An Early Celiac Dx
ang1e0251 replied to jcmandm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not prone to constipation but I do tend to get it since going gluten-free. It happens to me when I eat grains. I have recently cut most of the grains out of my diet. I have read other posters say they get C'd when they eat dairy. It might be worth a trial to see if cutting out the dairy can help. You also could cut back on the amount of grain she... -

Just to add to the mention of peppermints. I just eat peppermint candies, portable and soothing. So sorry this mountain has been put into your life. I'll visualize you both reaching the summit and heading down the healing side. -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Son - All The Symptoms, No Diagnosis, What To Do Next?
ang1e0251 replied to RobynJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you think I need to do a Gluten-free Casein-free diet? Also, how important is an actual diagnosis? If diet is the only thing that changes- do we really need a dx? I don't know if that is a stupid question or not... Yes it sounds like you do need a Gluten-free Casein-free diet. The dx, wow, that's a question with differents choices within... -
I think we can all agree that each of us has individual reactions and unique ongoing problems or lack thereof. This discussion has become remeniscient of other threads like super-sensitives where some seem to be saying you can't be reacting to everything or casting doubts on individuals' abilities to judge their own well being. Some of us have been...
