  1. I think I would look at family history if there are serious illnesses there. You have noted you have been ill for 10 years. The endo can be a baseline against conditions down the road just as a baseline colonoscopy at age 50 is. It's not that they expect to find growths or cancer but it's a good time to check and have the pictures and biopsys against future...
  2. Could you post your genetic test results? It's hard to understand his blood work was so positive after being gluten-free for a year. I can see why you're asking.
  3. Junk food? No. You don't get enough fats and protein out of fruits and vegetables to feed your body and stabilize your blood sugar. You can't sleep well with low blood sugar. Have a good protein meal with healthy dietary fats before bed.
  4. It is very hard to dx a child that young through tests. They often test negative but it doesn't mean they don't have celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Could you post the blood test results? That could be helpful. Now you can do genetic testing. That can be one of the puzzle pieces to help you dx. You can also put him on a gluten-free diet...
  5. With some symptoms, I saw noticable improvement in 1-3 days. Others took days and some months.
  6. I have heard of a person who used the capsule which will work for visible damage, but most damage is microscopic so you would be wise to have the biopsies. There is no risk of just going gluten-free. It will be fine for you, but if you're a person who sticks to a program better with a solid dx, then wait for all the tests. Also having a firm dx will...
  7. Welcome, it seems like you have a good handle on things so far. When you have more questions you can come here any time.
  8. I think if you can work it out, a mixed kitchen is great. We do and it is working. But...that said if a person is ultrasensitive, they cannot be well in a house with any gluten. I know you weren't referring to that. I just think even offering to be gluten-free with all it's headaches is the biggest show of support ever. Saying you'll suffer along...

ARCHIVED What To Discuss W/ Rheum

What was the original reason/symptoms you referred for?
  10. Both of you would probably benefit from some supplemental vitamins. I have had great success with the twitching and neuropathy from adding extra magnesium and sublingual B12 (methyl). Dr. Carolyn Dean recommends 600 mg's of magnesium for an average size adult. Don't start with that much. Start with a low dose and add to it every few days. I take a little...
  11. Your body needs what it needs, feed it!! It's pretty simple. Don't freak out by how much you're eating, it will taper off when it's ready. Just be sure you're eating safe foods. I would take a look at how much protein you're eating. I try to have a protein with every meal and snack which helps keep blood sugar levels on an even keel, blood sugar...
  12. I think if your symptoms persist, the ones you went to the dr for, then you should give the gluten-free trial of about 3 months. Only you really must be strict with it, decide if your symptoms have abated. Then do a challenge where you go back to eating gluten. Compare how you feel on and off. I know you wanted some definative answer but with GI...
  13. In our candy factory, we made taffy with corn syrup, is that what you were thinking? I've only ever used cane sugar for cookies. I tried subbing some of the sugar with stevia in the peanut butter cookie recipe this weekend, did not set up well. Very soft. I was thinking of flattening them into a pie pan and pouring chocolate pudding on top! The...

    ARCHIVED Not Feeling So Good!

I thought that BRM Hearty Whole Grain bread had gluten. You should check that. Simple whole foods are what I revert back to. No grains just meats, vegetables, beans and fruits. Single ingredient spices. Lots of eggs. Those are foods for me that are non-reactive. Once I feel better again, than I can use my food diary and add in new things one at...
  15. I agree about the bean flours. I've ditched the grains except rice but I have cut down on that. I have noticed that I have a problem with other carbs like beans and squash. It really slows down my digestion and my weight goes up. I will reserve those for ocasional days along with potaoes.
  16. Can you give some ideas about how you diversify your meals? I'm boring myself with my same ol'.
  17. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. I hope your doing better very soon.
  18. What would potato flakes do? They would be absorbant but wouldn't stay chewy, I don't think. Toasted almond shavings? Now I'm hungry.
  19. So this morning I am really bumming because I really want to lick this rash w/o oral drugs. Yes. the hydrocortisone cream provided relief very quickly, but, I really did not want to add to my collection of leopard spots. You can lick the rash by not licking the inside of a gluten sandwich! Sorry, just couldn't resist. Now that you know that gluten...
  20. Yea............it worked!! Thank you, Peter! I did it the way you described but when I came back to the forum it was still the old one! But I refreshed and finally.......suscess!!
  21. Which symptoms are you having? And what is your diet like?

    ARCHIVED Not Feeling So Good!

Could the stress have made you extra sensitive to some of the food you normally eat? Some people don't do well with nightshades, a food group that includes potatoes, peppers, eggplant and paprika. Do those ever bother you? Are you eating processed foods? You didn't mention anything made with flours but you mentioned getting a new toaster. If you...
  23. Dr. Pepper probably helps you because it has a prune base. Some prunes or prune juice wouldn't hurt you, by the way. If you have pain in the stomach, Pepto is gentle and pretty effective. I would stop eating foods that seem like they are backing you up. Later on, when you are more healed, you can reintroduce them and see how they sit. Your system is aggravated...
  24. It took me about 8 weeks to clear up but during that time I didn't have new breakouts. I only get that now if strongly glutened and it usually takes a continuos glutening to do it. Like something I ingested for several consecutive days. You might want to take another look at what he's taking. Look strongly at things he's having every day like supplements...
  25. Like I said, Twilight Zone!!
