  1. Exactly which blood panel did your dr run? Did he run an antibody panel? If you post your results here, you'll be told what they mean.
  2. Also, chocolate chips used in ice cream is usually a gluten "no no" becuase flower is used on the lines for anti sticking purposes. A company cannot add flour to any food without declaring it on the ingredients label as WHEAT. However the OP said that he is sensitive to soy and chocolate commonly does have soy lecithen added.
  3. The endoscopy was a piece of cake. The easiest procedure I've ever had. Don't worry, I was nervous too but it really was nothing. If your dr wants to gluten challenge you, ask up front if you have severe symptoms will he dx you from that? Tell him if you feel you can't do the entire challenge because you are too sick, you will stop no matter what. I...
  4. I am gluten-free and without dx. My financial circumstances didn't allow testing so I just went for it. I probably saved myself months of testing and sickness. I've never looked back or doubted my dx. My body told me clearly what I could tolerate and what I couldn't. I won't say I'll never go to a dr again but now I do my own research and discuss it...
  5. Sounds like you probably have other intolerances. You can go to an allergist for testing if you wish. Others who have had this testing can speak up and say which type of tests is best. Or you can go through an elimination diet and keep a food journal to identify problem foods. I'm at the two year mark and this year I've learned to cut out nearly all...
  6. My little niece and my friend's grandson both have problems with red dye. It directly affects their behavior. It would be worth it to try an elimination. I imagine it in my mind as a kind of electric current running through their small bodies and they are doing everything they can to get that out of them; running, screaming, throwing, hitting, jumping...
  7. Last night i ate: Safeway Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, and Ruffles Sour Cream and onion chips, some Lays cheddar just Barqs Rootbeer, and Trader Joe's mini chicken Tacos. (Checked this again and they are glutten free as is everything else. I have tried to switch to Soy but my Body hates it and stomich gets upset bad when i drink it. A couple of...
  8. If you have the ability to find out if a food is made in a shared facility, then do so. Ask about how the equipment is cleaned and see if you feel that is acceptable. Mostly you are just going to have to on feel. Does this food make you react? Some of us can eat food from shared facilities with no problem, others are very sensitive to it. Sorry it has...
  9. Can you eat coconut and nuts? These are good sources of good fats that are necesary to maintain muscle like your heart muscle. They will also help with hunger problems. Coconut milk can be added to all kinds of foods especially where you may have used regular milk. Coconut oil can be used in cooking or just added to foods like vegies. It's very filling...
  10. I agree that I lost weight until I started baking! The grains seem to put weight on me fast. Right now I'm pretty much off them again. The basic diet you described feels the best to me and the weight comes off slowly by itself.
  11. I'm so glad you have the answers! Now for a new life of great health for you and your family. Welcome into the group, hope you get the results for your children that they need.
  12. When I was a young mother-to-be all the books of the time advised to interview your prospective ped. before the baby was born. And that's what we did. My husband & I made an appointment and sat down with the doc. He also took preliminary info for his files about the baby's due date, my pregnancy, our wishes about circumcision, etc. Had I not liked...
  13. Do you really think people purposely cheat? That is a revelation to me. I can't imagine cheating or even wanting that pain and physical illness it would cause me. If enzymes really prevented an autoimmune response to gluten, the pharm companies would be all over that. Come on, that isn't true. You have to prevent the damage to your gut so it can...
  14. What a healthy attitude! It's refreshing to read about someone who is grateful and positive about the healthy choices in their life!
  15. Can you have quinoa? It has protein and might supplement your diet. Are you off eggs as well? Eggs are a big part of my diet and great for protein. What do you think?
  16. You can call your GI's office and ask them to schedule you in sooner if they have a cancellation. Explain your regular symptoms to them, like bloating and gassy. I wouldn't mention the back thing. Even though the way you describe your time gluten-free, it sounds like it is related, they won't take it that way. They will probably start to think of you as...
  17. Is there any special reason why you need a dr's diagnosis? If you don't get anywhere again, why not just go on the gluten free diet? You don't need a diagnosis to do it and it is healthy to try. Your doctors obviuosly have had years to treat you and have done nothing for you. Maybe it's time to take your diet in your own hands. This is your own...
  18. Your bloodwork could be negative if you are IGA deficient. If you want to know, you could post the results along with the lab's parameters here for someone to look at.
  19. I'm thinking of you today. Today is the first day of your gluten-free life!
  20. I saw on TV once that Vtiamin C can help with person's that suffer from depression. My DS has bouts with depression so I bought some for him. I don't know if he kept up with it but I don't believe he has had an episode since. That was 2 years ago. I looked it up and this link was interesting. It talks about other deficiencies too and what symptoms...
  21. I actually am on the Nuva Ring now. I resisted but it's actually the best I've been on. It's gentle with low doses of hormones and you insert it once a month. Now that I'm getting older, dr wants me to have a vaginal ablation to stop my periods. I'm wondering what will happen to my hormones if I'm off all the stuff. Past experience has not been good!...
  22. I'm sorry you're feeling bad! My cycles are the worst too. My dr finally put me on continuous birth control to stop them. You could be one of those people who starts out crappy then gets better over time. You might want to lay off the gluten-free processed foods for a bit. Those alternate grains can be rough on your digestion while you're healing...
  23. Instead of making yourself crazy with the possibilities, why not have him re-tested for celiac disease? Get a celiac blood panel drawn, if he is still making antibodies, then he is getting gluten somewhere. That would be a good place to start. I know two children in my small town who did have to have the growth hormone and both did well on it. ...
  24. I'm glad you finally have the final answer you wanted. It is kind of crazy to shop in the beginning but you will get the hang of it. In the beginning, a good hint that I read was to list the 10 most cooked meals in your house. You know, the ones you make every week. Write all the items on the menu than look up how to convert those to gluten-free. I think...
  25. What's a typical day's diet like? Have you been re-tested for blood antibodies? It would show if you are still being exposed to gluten.
