  1. At first I thougt from your post that he was eating gluten-free, then I reread it and now I don't know! Is he not gluten-free now? I would say you already have an answer for dairy as you have a positive dietary response to his being dairy free. If you aren't gluten-free you can try it again and I would keep so notes on his progress. Dr's really respond...
  2. It is hard enough to get dx'd as an adult but as a toddler, whew, it can be really tough. Why not have your dr run the panel again, even if you have to insist? Remember it can still be negative, it often is in young children. Ask your dr that if you put your child on a gluten-free diet trial, what results would he consider a positive response leading to...
  3. In my experience, stating your case, then letting it go, is one of the hardest and yet probably easiest ways to get along. You can only love them, offer them your great gluten-free cooking and be open to them when they ask you questions. They only need to know they can come to when they are ready to face it.
  4. i usually only react that quickly to milk but it could be anything there. I actually have good luck with McDonald's when ordering double cheeseburgers with no bun. I have ordered the sausage egg OK also. But at any time in a restaurant, CC can happen.
  5. I just wanted to say that your crumbly cookies sound perfect for a pie crust! BC, I used to make a chocolate chip cookie cheesecake. You used cookie dough for the crust then the cheesecake then little dollops of the dough here and there across the top. Man, that was killer good! Haven't made that in a long time.
  6. My son had pyloric stenosis surgery in '83. He doesn't have celiac disease but I do....
  7. I hope you get the dx you want. Just don't be discouraged if your testing comes out negative. If that happens, you could still have a problem with gluten. I think all of us started out wanting a clear dx of our disease. The problem is that there is still a lot of unknowns about celiac disease and the testing is far from perfect. Just be openminded when...
  8. Did I misread your post or are you cutting back drastically on the grains? I don't have the same symtom as you but cutting back on grains really helped other symptoms for me.
  9. My 12 yr old son has been showing several of the symptoms exhibited with Celiac. His 8 yr old sister was diagnosed almost 3 yrs ago. The dr put him on Ranitidine about 3 months ago for stomach issues and ran the blood serum tests last week. The results came back today saying it was inconclusive. Get a copy of those results and post them here for...
  10. I was really nervous about the endoscopy but it really was a piece of cake. I had sedation and it was the easiest I've ever had. It didn't make me sick like most do and didn't leave me all heavy and dopy either. I don't remember a thing. It seems like I blinked and they told me it was all over! I don't honestly remember if the sedation was a pill...
  11. A diet with whole foods you prepare yourself, I think, is the ideal way to begin this diet. It gives you a good start and you should feel good eating this way. It also provides a basis for other cooking and preparing food when you are ready to branch out. Many people are overwhelmed with grocery shopping in the beginning. Whole foods are foods that...
  12. No matter what, don't ever think this is the final time to ask questions. You can ask questions here anytime and as many times as you wish. Someone will always respond. You also should be able to ask your PCP questions, problem is he is not very well versed in celiac disease. There is a lot of information on the web and at this site. A good nutritionist...
  13. I would say you've made great improvements. I've seen numbers from others who took a year or more to get where you are. You're to be commended on working so hard on your diet. Your daughter will reap the benefits of your diligence.
  14. We don't eat a lot of sweets or cookies, we mainly buy Chex, gluten-free crackers, white rice, pasta sauces, refried beans, chili, quinoa, potato chips (sometimes), yogurt, some canned veggies and fruit, but mainly fresh, hot dogs (nitrate free), bacon (nitrate free, uncured), turkey, corn tortillas, gluten-free bread, gluten-free baking mixes, potato flakes...
  15. I still get that pain when glutened. I had my gallbladder removed several years ago.
  16. Do you have a home church? You can go to a local church and reach out to them. Explain your situation to the pastor. When an area is depressed like yours is, there are many people who need extra money and in a church they also want to help people. There are probably retired folks or layed off folks who would rent to you for a small fee. Explain to the...
  17. The problem with simply trying the gluten-free diet without diagnosis is that there are many hidden sources of gluten that are difficult to discover. A diagnosis will not make finding hidden gluten any easier. Even for the seasoned veteran, living a gluten-free diet takes effort and focus, especially when other people are preparing your food, such...
  18. What about this theory: It seems to me that one easy way to determine whether this is Celiac vs. just a food intolerance would be to give up gluten for 6 months to a year... if it is just a food intolerance I should be able to reintroduce gluten in a year or so, right? If all the bad symptoms come back I could possibly assume it is celiac disease? I've...
  19. I agree with the PP. You said you are eating things labeled gluten-free but those can have those small amounts of gluten as she mentioned. I would stop eating all processed foods for awhile and see if you can't get your good health back. If you eat only whole foods you prepare yourself, then slowly add new foods, one at a time, you should be able to pinpoint...
  20. Your life seems especially hectic right now; with your diagnosis and moving too. I predict as you feel more control over the diet and you get those vitamins in you, you will see some peace and improvement. I would suggest you keep your diet very simple right now with simple whole foods. As you settle into your move, then you can take another look at expanding...
  21. Maybe, but are you eating alternate grains and/or processed foods? That'll do it to me.
  22. About 1 1/2 yrs in, I no longer eat very many grain based foods. Sounds like the two of you are eating a lot of those products. They are expensive and since I couldn't afford them in the beginning, I just am used to not eating them. I also cut back even more because I just feel better that way. Here's what I'm eating today. Breakfast: 3 scrambled...
  23. I think an endoscopy would tell the extent of damage for you. It could be worthwhile to your mental approach to your disease to schedule one.
  24. I don't have any research to offer you there. I would say I was less hungry after. One of my gluten symptoms was constant ravenous hunger. But many seem to report they are very hungry at the start of their gluten-free diet. For whatever the reason your body is sending you a message just like it did when you ate gluten. It needs more food for now, so...
  25. Thank you, Deb, for the most informative article I've read in months. I sure wish she was my dr. You know that explains so much. I wish every dr would read it.
