ARCHIVED Anti-anxiety...short Term Medication- Suggestions?
ang1e0251 replied to wschmucks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have mild depression, especially seasonally, and I take St. Jon's Wort for that. It works well for me to take that edge off. -
ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
ang1e0251 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm checking in. Down 2 lbs this morning. I switched to honey in the evening for my tea instead of sugar. That's seems better for me but...starting that familier itch so I'm gloing to have to stop that. I'm going to buy some agave nectar today. It works just as well and seems to do well with my system. I didn't have any alternate flours this week... -
ARCHIVED Getting Frustrated With Daughter!
ang1e0251 replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm a little surprised that you feel stevia from plants is unsafe but you use aspartame in soft drinks and other things. Aspartame not only makes me sick but I've read some pretty scarey things about it. I like agave nectar for sweetening too. It's very low glycemic and comes from the agave plant. I do use sugar but I like to control and switch that... -
ARCHIVED Best Bread Pans?
ang1e0251 replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You noted using a bread machine. Is there one you would recommend for making gluten-free bread? Or maybe there's a specific brand of machine that is made for people who do gluten-free baking? Kim, I don't really feel qualified to do that as I've baked gluten-free bread only a few times in mine. The bread didn't digest too well for me. Looking... -

ARCHIVED Symptoms Changing Or Diminishing Even While Eating Gluten
ang1e0251 replied to NewNicole's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe if you could post your exact test results for both the bloodwork and the endoscsopy, those who are proficient at reading the tests could help you with it. Reactions do change. I would say in the year I have been gluten-free, when I do have gluten, each time it is different. So I am not surprised that your reaction varies. I'm not really sure... -
ARCHIVED Thinking Of Testing My 6 Year Old
ang1e0251 replied to KPJIL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would say when you see your dr and tell him your family history just like you have told us, he should have no problem running a celiac panel. It's a blood test and not invasive. Most dr's won't move a muscle without first running that test. There's a strong chance it will be negative because small children often test falsly negative. But that's OK.... -
ARCHIVED How To Test For Gluten Sensitivity..
ang1e0251 replied to HopeMum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Many allergists feel the only true way to discover an intolerance is by elimination diet. That's what my friend's grandson's allergist told the child's mother. I have read similar comments on this forum. If you run a search for elimination diets, you will find a lot of information. -
ARCHIVED Hip/low Back Pain
ang1e0251 replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am also appalled that he wouldn't prescibe anti-infammatories, my experience with dr's is that they hand them out like candy. The poo-pooing, yeah, I've heard that before. My dr asked me what the symptoms of my last glutening were and then laughed when I mentioned the last one in my feet. He said that's going too far!! Frankly good luck finding... -

ang1e0251 replied to agape30's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the Forum!! You are one of the lucky ones, you were diagnosed before any significant damage. I wish I had been. You are now in a position to heal yourself and your sister sounds like a great family rescource. Many large chain grocery stores have gluten-free shopping lists on their websites that you can print out to help you shop... -
ARCHIVED New To Site, Many Unexplained Symptoms
ang1e0251 replied to IndyKim's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You sure do seem to have many of the symptoms that many of us do. You said you had a blood test. What kind? You are having a colonoscopy. Are you having an edoscopy with biopsies for celiac disease? What you may find from reading through the forum is that many false negatives happen with the blood test and sometimes with the endoscopies. So I'm... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....

Elaine, Honey although very good for most people, does have a laxative affect. If you are eating too much, that would explain the D. Back off a little. -
ARCHIVED Best Bread Pans?
ang1e0251 replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't made bread in the oven for many years since I bought a bread machine. I've tried gluten-free bread in it a couple of times but it didn't sit well. I'm just starting to think I'm having trouble with xanthum gum. I might give it another try. But I do love to bake and read cookbooks. For cookies and pumpkin roll I use my very beat up old... -
ARCHIVED When Were You Diagnosed? As A Child?
ang1e0251 replied to livingglutenfree's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't have childhood digestive problems but I did have terrible teeth. I had fillings in nearly every baby tooth. I had just about perfect total recall until I hit about 5th grade then suddenly I had to work harder in school and that bacame much tougher the older I was. I always linked it to puberty but now I wonder if brain fog was a big thing. I started... -
ARCHIVED Walmart (great Value) Soy Sauce?

I don't have soy sauce frequently but when I do the Walmart is the one. I haven't had a problem with it. -

I love all kinds of flowers. That's why I opened my flower shop. I'm not as good growing them but the ones I had the most fun growing were zinnias and sunflowers. When we live in AZ, my daughter and I would each pick a snapdragon for our bed each year. That was fun.

My niece has PCOS and she has ovarian cysts that burst. She describes it as a terrible pain that before her dx, seemed more like sudden pain. She ended up in the ER several times as they guessed it might be appendix. When my mom was having UTI's it would sometimes worsen to cause very bad back pain. So I wonder also if your infection is causing that...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed 8 Year Old Help!
ang1e0251 replied to cancan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Eggs and ham with toasted corn tortillas are my favorite breakfast. OK, I'm not 8 years old. Occasionally I'll have the Van's waffles. I don't like them plain that well so this weekend I spread them with peanut butter and dipped in syrup....m.m.m.m.m... I don't have a problem with dinner for breakfast either. 'Fess up, how many of you have had cold... -

ARCHIVED Getting Frustrated With Daughter!
ang1e0251 replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sounds like she's manipulating and punishing you. If all she will eat is junkfood, remove it from the house. When she is hungry enough, she will eat. That is kind of harsh but IMO if she can get her way now, what will you do when she's 16? I think your husband could be more supportive. If he would refrain from critisizing your food, she would not... -
ARCHIVED Please Help!
ang1e0251 replied to flaca247's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am going to reinforce all the good advice that you have been given. I would see that she goes off dairy and probably fruits immediately. That at least will give her raw and damaged system a chance to calm down. The advice for simple whole foods is the best. When you have years of damage, you just can't heal overnight. A positive bloodtest is conclusive... -
Starbuck's uses Silk Soy Milk Vanilla the same as I have at home. I like them but I have to warn you, I have been dairy free most of my life so I do not even remember the tase of milk, except that it was yucky. You will have a learning curve as you adjust to the flavor. It's not going to be a perfect match for the milk you are used to. That doesn't mean...
